My wife and I have lived in Sonoma for more than 30 years. For most of that time I was a working winemaker and my wife ran a tasting room. We love cooking, eating, and the wine country lifestyle in general. Our home is renowned throughout the industry as a mecca for hospitality.
lance cutler purchased this cottage in 2001
We fell in love with Sonoma during a visit in 1976. By 1977 we had moved here and the next year I began a career in the wine business. After renting a small cottage for 23 years, my wife and I decided to build our own home. We built the main house and the rental unit in 2001. My wife has planted and maintains a stunning garden on the property. In short, this is a great spot in the heart of Sonoma Wine Country that we have built with our own hands.
First off the property sits in a real, rustic neighborhood. It's not screened off by metal fences and high walls. Just blocks from the Sonoma Mission Inn, several restaurants and five burrito wagons, you'll be centrally located to start your exploration of Wine Country.
Arriving at the vacation rental we were promptly greeted with both courteous and friendly service. We found the home to be very clean and comfortable stocked with all the amenities which would assure a pleasing and enjoyable stay. The house also comes with wireless internet connection which was an added bonus for us. The rental sits nestled in a quiet, beautifully manicured garden which provides a perfect setting to enjoy your morning coffee or a romantic glass of wine in the evening. Our hosts were very knowledgable about the surrounding area and its abundance of restaurants and attractions. While they very respectfully gave you all the isolation and space you desire, they were easy to approach and engage. The location of the rental is convenient as it sits less than five minutes away from the Sonoma square. While visiting the area we would suggest stopping in at LaSalette (Portuguese restaurant), Vela Cheese Company, and the Sonoma farmers market on Tuesday evenings. All things considered we found this rental was fun, romantic, and amazing. The rental itself was only dwarfed by our hosts cordial and goodnatured help and discourse. We hope to visit again!
My husband and I were in town for a benefit dinner and found Lance and Sandy's cottage to be absolutely perfect. We couldn't have asked for a more charming place to stay, and the amenities were perfect. The location was centrally located which made sightseeing a breeze. Sandy's garden is a site to behold, and to be surrounded in all the lush greenery made for a beautiful day. Thank you Lance and Sandy for opening up your cottage to us, and helping to make our long weekend perfect.
When my husband and I stay in the wine country, we do so with one focus and one focus only: wine. (Okay... maybe we eat once or twice, but really we brown bag it a lot and stick to wine drinking. It is not unusual for us to go to four or five wineries a day for four days in a row. Most people do NOT do this). This place was PERFECT for us. It's very centrally located to get to all of the places we wanted to see in the Russian River Valley and in Napa.
If you come in WITHOUT an agenda already planned, Lance and Sandy are happy to greet you and give you their thoughts on places to visit in the area as well. LOTS of charming local restaurants and attractions, and the cottage is just off the Sonoma square.
In general, even in the "guest house" universe, I tend to like some privacy and time to myself. My husband likes to talk and get to know the hosts. This cottage provided the best of both worlds. Lance and Sandy pride themselves on being excellent hosts, and they are! The cottage is situated behind their house in a residential neighborhood on the edge of their spectacular garden. You can retreat to your "home" for privacy at any time you wish. It is secluded and lovely. The decor is adorable and interesting! The inlays on the tiles are just gorgeous! The bed and bedding are quite comfortable (I'm pretty picky when it comes to linens), the bathroom and kitchen are both spacious. The living room is not necessarily geared towards lounging around; however, you're on vacation! Why are you lounging around, anyway? Wifi reception is best on the patio, which is the perfect place to check your email.
This was an excellent place to call home. We try to go to the wine country every couple of years or so; now I know that I'll book my next trip around when this place will be available.
What a lovely home away from home. It had everything we needed and Lance and Sandy were great to work with. The home was well stocked with everything we needed. Just remember that if you can't find it ask. It is there, just kept organized so the place was not cluttered.
Excellent vrbo rental. Perfect location for Sonoma and Napa wine country. Owners on top of everything from arrival to departure (even on Xmas arrival!). Cottage is cozy, well maintained, clean, and supplied with nice towels & linens. These owners have the details down and we noticed them all...the personal decorations on the walls, extra pillows, a flashlight in the closet, soda's,water, juice in the refrigerator upon arrival. The local restaurant/grocery recommendations are great - still craving another order of Mushroom & chard Enchilada's from El Molino. We would definitely stay at this rental again.
My husband and I both stayed here for 5 days, and what a wonderful 5 days it was! The place was spotlessly clean, quiet, and in a great location/launching point for a few days of wine tasting. The apartment was well stocked with everything to make it like home from kitchen to bath to bed linens and blankets. It didn't feel like a "rental", it felt like a guest house.
The owners Lance and Sandy were lovely to rent from, and their home is right next door. They were welcoming, delightful to talk with, and were very helpful with all of our questions. It was wonderful to have the opportunity to sit and chat with them one afternoon over a glass of wine. It has been almost a month since we were there, and we can't wait to come back next year!!!
