About Howard Zwick

I am a former radio and television executive and have built several homes, I've enjoyed completely updating our lovely Jamestown house to include all new systems, a 60 foot front porch, the pub, and pool.

Why Howard Zwick chose Jamestown (Conanicut Island)

Most people who visit Jamestown want to enjoy the village and it's marinas, restaurants and shops. Autumn House is situated in the beautiful historic neighborhood of Shoreby Hill which rises above the scenic harbor facing Newport.

The house itself has an amazing floorplan with seven rooms on the main floor alone and is perfect for entertaining.

What makes this house unique

The unique benefits of Autumn House are that there are very few homes within the village that offer central air conditioning, a swimming pool, three fireplaces, a sixty foot wicker furnished front porch, corner location and such beautiful grounds.

With five bedrooms, the house accommodates ten plus two rollaway beds for extra guests.

You will enjoy being able to walk down the hill to the harbor, restaurants, shops and seasonal ferry to Newport without having to drive into town.

I can't say enough about the beautiful porch and the entrance seating room with a fireplace! We had fabulousmeals prepared in the well stocked kitchen and the use of the grill outside. The many laughs we shared will be life memories. We had all the space we needed in this spacious home a nd the grounds are beautiful. I would definetly encourage you to spend time here. Susan and Howard were very accommodating!

Perfect house w/every comfort you can imagine

  • 5 of 5

We recently celebrated my wife's birthday with 4 of her close friends and their spouses in this home over a long weekend. The house was everything the pictures and description promised and more. It was extremely comfortable with all guests having their own bedroom and spacious social rooms to gather in. The large kitchen and dining areas had plenty of room for all to linger while we ate & drank. The home was extremely clean and stocked with all the neceeary linens and towels. The separate pub room with craps table was an extremely fun place to stay. The outdoor seating areas and heated pool gave us plenty of places to explore - while enjoying the music via the outdoor speakers.

The owners were very welcoming and wonderful people who made us feel right at home the minute we stepped out to the car. This home is the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion with a group of friends - or for no reason at all. We are already planning our return visit as the home, property's privacy, owners and location to town truly left nothing wanting. A true 5 star experience.

What a gem of a home...truly a special place!

We stayed at this spectacular home for a family wedding in Newport in early September. We were a big group and the spaciousness and layout of the house was perfect. A welcoming large front porch with wicker furniture and tables is an inviting entrance to the property. We spent a lot of time relaxing and chatting there. There are so many comfortable places to sit, relax, have a coffee or cocktail and we never felt crowded or on top of each other. All of the bedrooms are beautiful...large with great amenities. The baths were also large, beautifully done with plush towels.

Howard and Susan were terrific to deal with and were quick to respond to any questions or concerns. Just delightful! Their home has EVERYTHING you could need or want. From dining to grilling or poolside entertaining, they have thought of it. Plenty of towels, beach chairs, bikes, and every entertaining piece you would ever need. The outdoor living space is abundant and there are tables, private sitting areas or plenty of room for a large group.

A highlight of the home, of which there are many, is the genuine "bar" off the dining and living room. It is cozy, authentic and a little gem!

The location is ideal. We were able to walk to town, probably 10 minutes or so and it was very convenient to Newport...easy drive. Lots of little shops, restaurants, waterfront activities were steps away.

Several of us are already planning a return visit! You will love it!

Beautiful, older home full of charm - great locati

  • 4 of 5

This is a really beautiful home in one of the older, established estate areas in Jamestown. It was perfect for our mini-family reunion, offering more than enough space for 9 of us - as the house itself is enormous, and the outside grounds more than ample. We couldn't get our son out of the pool most of the days, and the perfect front porch soon became my mother's favorite place in the house, from coffee in the mornings, to cocktails in the evening.

The location really couldn't be better, as it offered the best of both worlds in terms of quiet/relaxation, while still having easy access to the quaint village of Jamestown and the more well-known Newport (just a 10 min drive over the bridge, or a great 30 min ferry ride a 5 minute walk away in town). The village is small, but we didn't mind the quieter atmosphere as it has everything you would want, without the crowds and hustle of Newport - it has a few charming restaurants and shops, including an ice cream shop that became a must-walk-to every evening for us after dinner.

The owners, Howard and Susan, were incredibly accommodating and made everything so easy throughout the rental process. The house was fully stocked with towels, linens, necessities, etc., to the point where every time we thought of something we ourselves had forgotten, we were thrilled to find already in front of us. The kitchen was great for preparing large family meals and the pub off the dining room was a fun place to congregate after the little ones went down for the night. It is of course an older home and while it had obviously been thoroughly renovated at some point, it does show its age and the quirks that come along with it, but our few issues were so minor it really didn't effect us at all. Overall, a pretty fantastic place to spend a week as a family of all ages. We really can't recommend it enough!

Jewell of Jamestown

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 13 plus a caregiver for my elderly father spent a week together at this gorgeous Jamestown home. Both owners greeted us on Saturday and gave us a thorough overview of the home. They graciously accommodated us by allowing us to have a special lift recliner delivered first thing that morning and made us feel at home from the outset. The electric chair on the back staircase was essential for my mom and dad to get up to their bedroom each night.

We have rented many houses over the years and one shortfall we often see is that there is never enough towels or linens for a group as big as ours. This was not the case at this home. There was also ample silverware and tons of serving dishes, pots, pans etc. It was perfectly equipped for our family who loves to cook.

While the kids couldn't quite get enough of the pool by day, the adults gathered in the pub each night. If you are visiting this area, you need to try a local favorite lemonade. Sold from a truck down at Mackeral Cove, this lemonade slushy mixes perfectly with blueberry vodka and was served liberally each evening :)

Another favorite part of our stay was the close proximity to everything. Several days, we walked to the local fish shack, bought whatever fresh fish had just arrived, hopped on over to the bakery for a fresh loaf of kalamata olive bread and rustled up an amazing dinner. The village is located a short half mile away which made it easy to walk to and from restaurants and bars.

I truly can't say enough about how much we enjoyed our stay in this house. It ain't cheap to rent - that is for certain. But, in this case, we felt like we really did get what we paid for. This home was perfectly maintained both inside and out. And the owners were an absolute pleasure. Thanks for a wonderful week on the best island in RI!

Perfect summer escape!

  • 5 of 5

We recently returned from a long weekend at Autumn House where 14 college friends gathered for a mini-reunion. The house could not have been better suited for the gathering. The kitchen was fully stocked with cookware, tableware, seasonings, etc, making big group dinners a breeze to prepare. The bedrooms and bathrooms were immaculately clean and comfortable. There are multiple little nooks for lounging, from the pub to the front porch to the kitchen to the pool area. The house is extremely convenient to town and the harbor, and very close to Newport, but we never wanted to leave! Thank you to Howard and Susan for being such gracious and warm hosts. We hope to see you again next year.
