Don’t just travel across continents – travel across time at this historic chateau in France! Owned by the same family for 500 years and furnished with antiques that are as ancient as 1000 years old – including an impressive collection of books, maps, and artifacts from France’s wars dating back to the middle ages – you’ll be able to explore France’s fascinating history from the comfort of this chateau’s antique armchairs. But don’t get too immersed in the past: the impressive beaches of Narbonne, the gorgeous city of Carcassonne beckon, and all the wonders of present-day France beckon!
This lovely 16th century chateau has been owned by the same family for 500 years and retains many of its historic original features, like its spiral tower. There is a terrace that overlooks the stunning medieval town of Carcassonne and has table and chairs for 12 guests for al fresco dining. There are additional wicker chairs and tables, and a barbeque. There is a private above-ground pool (7.8 x 6m, open May through the end of summer) within the chateau’s walled garden, with nearby sun loungers. There’s also private parking for up to 5 cars.

Ground Floor: This floor has a dine-in kitchen with a fireplace, equipped with a dishwasher, oven with rotisserie, and microwave. There is a game room decorated with historic artifacts ranging from World War II all the way back to medieval times, and equipped with a billiard table and a baby grand piano. The dining room has a table and chairs for up to twelve guests and features a 1000 year-old carved stone fireplace from a medieval castle. The living room has a fireplace and French doors that open onto a terrace. There’s a small library filled with books and artifacts such as historic maps. A secret door opens into a bedroom with narrow twin beds, most comfortable for young people (can be arranged together to form a queen bed upon prior request) and its own washbasin. This floor has a guest bathroom with a toilet and sink. First Floor: A hand-carved stone stairway leads with the first floor. There are five bedrooms. The first is a master bedroom with a small queen size bed (152 cm) and a day bed (most comfortable for one), and an ensuite bathroom with a bathtub, sink, and toilet, and an attached private salon with an upright piano, a decorative marble fireplace, table and chairs, and windows overlooking the terrace. The second bedroom has a small queen size four poster bed (152 cm) with a canopy with gold inlay, and an attached small library with historic books, a marble fireplace, and a 16th century Parisian hand carriage. The third bedroom is in a separate large room in the same suite, and has 2 single beds (97 cm) and a standard double bed (140 cm, comfortable for one, cozy for two) and French windows opening onto a balcony. The second and third bedrooms share a bathroom with a bathtub, sink, and toilet. The fourth bedroom has an antique sleigh bed (140 cm, comfortable for one), and an ensuite bathroom with a shower, sink, and toilet. The fifth bedroom is a large, separate room in the same suite as the fourth bedroom, and has 3 single beds (97 cm).

The queen-size beds are narrow (152 cm) by U.S. standards. There are two bedrooms with standard double beds (140 cm), which are considered to be small for two people by U.S. standards. One of the bedrooms has an antique sleigh bed, which the owner says is only for one person. There are 3 full bathroom in the chateau. The ground floor bedroom just has a sink and access to the guest bathroom (no tub or shower). First bundle of firewood is free of charge. There are radiators in the bedrooms and bathrooms. Pool towels are available upon prior request.
This chateau is located 2 km away from Trebes, which has restaurants, cafes, a bakery, a post office, banks, pharmacies, a butcher, and grocery stores. You’ll want to take the 10 kilometer trip to Carcassonne, a fortified town that will allow you to take a step back in time as you walk along the narrow cobblestone alleys, stop in a chocolatier or candy store, and drink a café au lait. You must remember to visit the Basilica of Saint Nazaire, a cathedral from the 11th century often referred to as the “Jewel of the City,” and the Museum of the Middle Ages. The closest beaches are in Narbonne, a small town along the coast full of good pizzerias and dessert shops, and the amazing city of Toulouse is perfect for a day and should absolutely not be missed!
