I live in San Francisco, California, and love to visit the Big Island when I can. This home was built by my brother, also the manager of the property for his family in 2007.

Adam Jacobstein purchased this house in 2007

Hale Apapane was built by Adam Jacobstein, the owner's brother, and was his family's home for 6 years before they moved off of Hawaii Island. It has been very carefully designed to take advantage of the surrounding landscape, with large windows, and enough room for a big group to feel together in the open living space, but still have separate areas upstairs. The furniture is all high quality and it was decorated with a purpose in mind.

The house is large and open inside. It has special artwork from local artists and photographers. It hace hot tub, a swing in the yard, and a large covered carport for playing basketball or hanging out.

WE LOVED OUR STAY!

  • 5 of 5
Aloha!
My husband and I stayed at Hale 'Apapane for 4 nights in May with our 4 younger kids, ages: 10,7,4 & 3 month old baby. We live on Oahu, but wanted to bring our kids to the big island to visit the volcano. We had an amazing time and we all loved the house. It was in a great location very close to volcanoes national park, and about an hour drive to the other places we wanted to see. We visited all the waterfalls near Hilo on the day we flew & then took another reviewers advice and stopped at a grocery store in hilo before checking in. (got a big can of hot chocolate) Really easy check in! The next day were able to visit the park's steam vents & lava tubes then go to the green sand beach (locals drove us down) & the black sand beach with turtles. We loved coming back 'home' to a cooler climate and relaxing in the hot tub. The place had everything we needed, including fresh fruit & english muffins & a bunch of condiments. (we didn't need to buy the mayo & mustard that we had bought) the next couple of days were spent exploring the puna area...the hot pots, the lava tree state park, the town of kalapana. We also visited a really cool non-lit lava tube in hilo called Kaumana lava tube or kaumana caves, drove up to mauna kea and hiked across the lava flow from park side to see the lava. We weren't interested in the kona side during this trip, since we live on oahu, we were really interested in seeing the volcano :)
The home was very clean, loved the soft sheets! (we are pretty picky about our sheets!) My daughter loved having her own room. There was a nice pack & play for my baby to sleep in and plenty of space. There were notes posted around the house with info about the wifi, how to start a fire, etc.
loved the extras! like the board games for the kids, the basketball & hoop, sidewalk chalk :) and travel books. We ended up leaving our copy of Hawaii Revealed for the next visitors!
Mahalo for helping to make our vacation fabulous!

PS- also noticed there was one set of snorkel gear (didn't use it) in the laundry room
only issues were that the water pressure was a little weak...but it was really not that big of a deal and we couldn't get the dvd player to work. Didn't matter- we just watched tv. :)
I would definitely come back!

BEAUTIFUL, RELAXING HOME

  • 5 of 5
This is a gorgeous house. The design is so inviting and open and it is tastefully decorated. We enjoyed the deck, the hot tub and the wood burning stove. Cooked some great meals in the kitchen and slept soundly with the nightly quiet rains. We liked being in the jungle where it was peaceful. Lots of birds singing in the mornings. The house is well located for exploring Volcano National Park and the various lava tubes in the area. There is a little village a mile or two away with a grocery and some restaurants. Finally, the house was very clean and ready for visitors. We loved it! Thank you!

AMAZING VOLCANO HOME

  • 5 of 5
Amazing Big Island home (with a sweet hot tub) just a few minutes outside Volcanoes National Park and very close to everything the town of Volcano has to offer. The house was spotless when we arrived, with a bright and spacious main floor and comfortable bedrooms upstairs. Adam was super helpful throughout the booking process. Highly recommended.

NICE BUT ....

  • 3 of 5
Hale Apapane is a large home with an enjoyable layout as pictured on VRBO. The location is wonderfully close to the Village and Park, especially after a long day of driving and site seeing. There was a misunderstanding of the date of arrival, which I admit should have been caught by me upon the verification of the rental agreement. Adam was very accommodating and allowed us to stay since the house was open. We arrived one night later than expected and the house was not cleaned from the prior guest, which had to be several days past since we were expected the night before. Adam had housekeeping over within a few minutes of me calling and by 8:30 that night it was ready for us. We all took this in stride, had a lazy morning the following day and headed out. The reason for the lower star rating is more do to the very curt email from Adam then the stay. Once I was home I sent an email explaining housekeeping had not done their job of cleaning after the last guest and there were a few things that needed repairs. His response was “I am sure that you can understand about the house not being cleaned until late, since you arrived on the wrong day.” It is very unfortunate Adam could not understand that the house did not spontaneously become dirty with kitchen trash, unwashed linens and dishes because we arrived a day late. My family and I would have been faced with a dirty house even if we arrived the day before as scheduled. I did not ask Adam for any compensation, just wanted him to be aware of the situation and I found his response tacky at best. From prior reviews it appears that we were not the only ones with housekeeping issues.

Owner's Response: I am sorry for anyone to have a negative experience associated with our house, however, this response is certainly a case of petulant behavior on the part of this guest. This guest arrived on the wrong day of their reservation, and I very nicely offered to have the house cleaned anyway and let her stay there free of charge. Of course it took a few hours for this happen as the cleaning was not scheduled. Please read through the rest of our reviews!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

  • 5 of 5
We had a wonderful stay. The house was perfect for our group. Close to everything but so quite and peaceful. I would highly recommend this house to family's or couples. It is a great deal for a house with all the amenities . We had a very nice dinner at Volcano house and were able to see the lava glow at night from the restaurant . Adam you ticked all the boxes when you put this house together! Also loved your custom furniture and art work. Aloha

VERY NICE

  • 5 of 5
Modern, upscale, clean, beautiful wood throughout. Location is great for both Volcano National Park and Volcano Village-- truly drives of five minutes or less.Wifi was excellent (not to take for granted on the Big Island).
Had a question (about a light switch) and Adam responded via email very quickly.
