Comfortable and Complete

Our family of 5, plus 2 grandparents, have stayed in the Eagle's Landing home four times in the past three years. The house has become almost a home away from home; always in good order and familiar. We've stayed in other homes on the island, but this one, while not the newest or fanciest, is our favorite.

We've never had the kind of problems noted by the prior reviewer, which is what prompted me to write this review, simply because it is so different from our experience over multiple stays. We've found it clean and comfortable every time we've arrived. It is an older home, but well kept, and we've never experienced a failure or problem. The A/C and water have never even been a thought. The house has an ideal layout for enjoying the location to its fullest; open and spacious. The back porch directly overlooks the beach, less than 30 yards from the dune line. The bedrooms are comfortable and the kitchen area is roomy and accommodating with an island range and plenty of counter space. There is a large deck under the home, open to the dune and beach, raised just above ground level. When there is a breeze, it is a perfectly positioned spot to sit and relax in the shade after time on the beach. The outdoor shower and foot rinsing faucets on ground level make it easy to rinse off before going up one of the two sets of stairs to the house. Both are positioned on a plank deck so you don't have to stand in sand to rinse sand off.

Our 3 children; presently 11-15 in age; love the house, the proximity to the beach, and the deck and porch spaces. My parents are in their late 60's, and are equally comfortable there. It is not a 5 star luxury accommodation, but that's what makes it ideal for summer vacations. You can relax and enjoy the comfort and space without worrying about getting fingerprints on the wall or tarnishing the fixtures!

The Mackin agency has always been helpful and very responsive when we've had questions and during the booking process. The one time we had a concern; minor and nothing to do with a major problem or maintenance; they were quick to respond and take care of us. We've had no complaints through three family trips of 8-10 days each and one couples only weekend. Notably, each of the couples with us on that weekend loved the house, as well. We'll be going back in 2015!

No water? No heat? No refund!

  • 2 of 5
We just returned from a week at Eagle's Landing. The house is in a lovely location- right on the Gulf and we had planned for a fun family week. Within a few hours of arriving, the outdoor faucet fell off in my son's hand as he was washing his feet. We had to turn off the water in the entire house while waiting for it to be fixed and then for the glue to dry- so no water the first day. Two days later, we came home from dinner to find water pouring through the floor into the carport (the house is on stilts). Even though it was 9:30pm, we immediately called the agent and turned off the hot water. Turns out the hot water heater had broken- Day 2 of no water. At this same time, we tried to turn on the heat (it was cold!!!) and it didn't work either- so it was 39 outside and 54 inside. We asked both the owner and the rental agent for some money back-- not all, just a third as that was the amount of days we were inconvenienced taking care of their house- and both denied our request. I would never rent through this company again and would not recommend this rental at all. Not only did we have these problems, it was dated and run down. Eagle's Landing is not the lovely space that is advertised on this website or on the Michael Saunders website.

Owner's Response: Dear Marlo,

We’d like to start with an apology for your experience. While we strive for the VERY best in in vacation experiences, regrettably we are never 100% perfect. This was surely a case of everything that could go wrong, did - all at the same time – and we feel your frustration. I know you’ve been in touch with our team to discuss compensation. In the meantime we have also worked with the owner and property manager to ensure all of the fixes made during the stay are completed and working properly for the next tenant. Our property owners are always interested to hear feedback as well so we will certainly address your opinion of it being “dated and run down”. This unique Island community is certainly more relaxed than some – but keeping it current and clean is of highest priority. Thank you for your feedback, for giving us the opportunity to fix what’s broken, and for making our next visitor’s experience a pleasant one!

Kind Regards,
Amy Chapman
