About Chris Aguero

We love Austin, and want to share it with others. We are originally from California, and enjoy the little-big town of Austin. It has lots of activities and enough culture to keep even the most experienced traveler's interest.

We enjoy traveling to great cities like Paris, Milan and New York. But we also enjoy the quaint charms of small walkable towns such as Italy's the Cinque Terra, and Portugal's Sintra.

We appreciate modern and historic architecture, and this little gem of a cottage has both. It's got good structure with modern features. Every year we try to improve upon it.

It has the best location for walking to dinner, or taking a long walk around the lake.

Last year we rode bikes to the Austin City Limits (ACL) Festival. It was great to just peddle up to the event and not worry about parking.

We hope our visitors enjoy this perfect little cottage as much as we do.

Chris Aguero purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Chris Aguero chose Austin

The location of this property is perfectly situated between the city and the lake in a hip and upcoming area of Austin. Great walk-ability to bars, restaurants and shops.

The closest bars and restaurants are on Rainey Street which is fast becoming the best spot to party like a local. Rainey is a quaint street where the houses have been renovated into cool bars and great foods. There is even trailer food area with lots of choices. Parking is crazy on Rainey Street, so most people who stay at the cottage just walk there. The walk is less than a 1/2 mile (.4 to be exact), and is worth it to miss the parking fees for most people.

With a car, the entire Austin area is free to explore, including the hill country, the worlds best BBQ, and great outlet shopping.

What makes this cottage unique

While this house boasts all the comforts of home, it is the location that made us grab it the first day it came on the market. The house is in impeccable condition, retaining its rich history, while feeling modern and clean.

The home has modern touches, like automatic keyless doors, smartTV, charging ports in the bedrooms, and a wireless printer.

We stock the Kitchen with snacks and treats to welcome guests and make them feel at home. There's coffee, tea and creamers to start the day perfectly. In the frig, you'll usually find farm fresh eggs, butter and almond milk .

The Kitchen is fully functional as it is beautiful. With granite counter tops, ample storage and double stainless steel sink, it has everything you will need, including microwave, gas stove, oven, and even a washer/dryer.

If you enjoy cooking you will find the kitchen is fully outfitted. There are copper-bottomed pans, spices, olive oil, and serving dishes. If you are a take-away foodie like me, you will find plates, dining ware, and wine glasses to make your meal special.

The best part of this place is its location. A nice walk to the lake and the best bars in Austin. The home even has parking off street for up to 3 vehicles, and usually some on-street parking as well.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Nice 2 bedroom cottage with room for a person on a fold down couch. Close to the action of downtown, quiet neighborhood, attractive interior. Would stay here again.

Cute clean convenient and comfy!

  • 5 of 5

This was a great house for two couples we enjoyed being able to walk to rainy street and downtown. The backyard was great to soak up some sun while drinking coffee. The thermostats took a little bit to figure out and the toilet paper hidden above the fridge was hard to find, but a note on those two issues would be great. I would recommend this house to anyone traveling to austin, comfy beds, convenient, clean and cute!

Owner's Response: We are always happy to hear from our renters. We've stocked the bathroom sink with lots of toilet paper and will post a note next to the thermostat. Great suggestions!

The Cross Cottage was an excellent place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

The Cross Cottage was a real find, a joy to experience and ideally located. It doesn't get much better than this. The owner of the cottage was kind and helpful and has provided everything you need to make your stay a relaxing experience. No one lives in in the cottage so it is not cluttered with personal items, but equipped to give a home feel to it. The keyless entry was great (one less key to lose!) The cottage itself is tastefully decorated and has all the amenities of home including a fully stocked kitchen, the bed was SO comfortable as were the pillows. All the linens were crisp white, fresh & fluffy. We slept really great. The shower was nice! Everything was so clean and comfortable

There is a wooden fence that surrounds the backyard, to make your stay very private and secure with a great outdoor sitting area for morning coffee, breakfast and wine in the evening.

If you are looking for convenience, character and comfort, I think you would love this place!! I would definitely recommend this cottage to friends or relatives. We really enjoyed it. Thanks!!

Cute comfy cottage and a great vacation base

  • 5 of 5

The house was really clean and comfortable and quiet. Not having to buy little things like coffee and snacks was nice. We walked to Rainey St (which is just an amazing fun spot) and were within a quick drive to all the other major downtown spots. We totally recommend the Cross Street house, it was so much better than a hotel!

A perfect stay..

  • 5 of 5

A great getaway- location is fabulous! 5 minutes away from most historical venues! Near grocery, wine store, restaurants and attractoins. This cottage was amazingly appointed with everything from coffee provided, food supplies and even vegan selections! One would not have to shop right away upon arrival! Beds were super comfortable and furnace was most welcome and easy to operate as we hit Austin during a cold snap. The kitchen was beautiful and had everything needed. Owners close by in case needed for directions. The best? a security system that was most likely unneccessary but contributed to feeling secure.

Great Rental - exactly as described.

  • 5 of 5

The family really enjoyed our 5 night stay. The rental exceeded our expectations and we were surprised to find goodies in the fridge upon our arrival (very thoughtful). The location is ideal --- within walking distance of the lake, walking path and bars/restaurants on Rainey Street (Craft Pride and Banger’s). The backyard was large enough to have the kids’ burn off some energy and a park is a block away at the elementary school. Everything about this rental was easy – code for the doors, payment, etc. Rental is really clean and would highly recommend. We are already planning our return for this summer.
