Needs some repairs.

  • 3 of 5

The condo was clean, a bit small and in need of some repairs. The lock on the balcony was broken, the lock on the front door broke and the key to the lower gate worked our upper gate. The couch was beat. The area seemed a bit sketchy and the beach this time of year is not accessible. On the positive side the view is beautiful and the breeze lovely. The kitchen was well equipped. Alana, the property manager, is wonderful. She had everything ready, dealt professionally with flight delays, was punctual and pleasant at check out and helped me get immediate and appropriate medical help when I had a bad reaction to an antibiotic. Thank you!

Beautiful and Wonderful view with ocean breezes

  • 4 of 5

Thank you Maritza for making it a great stay! and for coming to get us the first nite. Yes! We got lost. But, Maritza got us to the condo, safely. She provided us with her contact numbers and brochures for various activities. The condo was also, very secure. And, it was very clean, and we had plenty of towels for the stay. It had all utensils, frig, microwave, toaster oven, stove. And, the beautiful view from the balcony/patio, was gorgeous, and the sound of the ocean was breathtaking. It was nice just being out on the patio. I will say that the owners should fix the door to the patio/balcony though, it did not work, and we had to prop a chair in front of the door to keep it shut. Especially, when we had a storm on NY's eve nite. Also, you should have some kind of universal remote to make watching TV a little easier. Switching between the 2 remotes wasn't the easiest way to watch TV. But, having the TV, Wifi and cable was a nice feature and amenity.

But, being close to the kiosks was great, we could walk from the condo to the Luquillo food stands and enjoy all kinds of cuisine. Awesome! We also did quite a bit of site-seeing..................went to the El Yunque Forest, Old San Juan(Ft. Morro and San Cristobal). Also, we swam and tried boogie boarding in the ocean, (Luquillo Beach)(Seven Seas Beach) and it was great. We did a little snorkeling behind Luquillo food stands at that beach. I think the snorkeling would have been better if we would have taken a tour. But this time of year the ocean isn't very calm. Still swimming in the ocean in Dec/Jan is priceless, and being out in the sun is awesome. The weather was in the mid 80's during the day and at nite in the low 70's. You can't get better than that. If it rained it didn't last long during the day. I would like to come back and explore the neighboring islands Culebra and Vieques, too. There is so much to see here, and this condo is conveniently located. You are far enough away from the big city of San Juan, so you have peace and quiet. Also, you are close to the Luquillo kiosks and beach access. Even though we were by the beach, we couldn't use the beach out in front of the condo. The water's were too rough and high, no beach, but that is the time of year, so remember that if you want to come to PRico. All in all a relaxing trip.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review and I’m so happy you had a fun and relaxing vacation. It looks like you hit many of great attractions near the condo. It’s central location, and the view from the balcony were the main reasons my wife and I fell in love with the condo. We are happy to hear our guests feel the same way. The next time you return to PR I strongly recommend making the trip to Flamenco Beach in Culebra or Sun Bay Beach in Vieques. Both are breathtaking and worth the ferry ride. We thank you for mentioning that the door to balcony is in need of repair. We will get that fixed right away. Also, we hadn’t considered purchasing a master remote but that is a very good suggestion. We are very proud of our little slice of paradise and want to keep it well maintained. We are always looking to improve the condo so we take your comments seriously. I’m sorry that the beach in front of the Condo was directly accessible during your stay. As we point out on HomeAway, direct beach access does depend on the time of year. Fortunately, as you found, there are 6 other beaches Luquillo; several are within walking distance and none are more than a few miles away. All beaches in PR are public beaches. Again, I’m so pleased you had a great vacation and I hope you choose to stay with us again. We do offer a discount for returning guests.

The Perfect Get A Way Home!

There are too many words to describe how impressed my spouse and I were when we rented this Condo. First off we didn’t bring a map with us when we were coming here so we got lost. We called the property manager of the condo and they were more than happy to help us find our way. The property manager’s husband went out of his way to find where we were and show us to the right place. After we found out the location of the condo, it is a very easy place to find.

There is a parking gate, activated with a switch, and then 2 more metal gates. It makes you feel very safe and the keys are clearly coded. When we arrived at the condo, we first got a full tour of the whole place from the property manager’s husband. The only thing I can say is wow!!!

My spouse and I dropped our jaws when we walked into the room. It felt like we were already living at this place. There were plates set up very nicely at the table, water jugs were prepared for us in the fridge, a small snack and coffee basket greeted us at the kitchen counter. When the manager opened the balcony shutter, the wind was blowing cool air throughout the whole condo; the birds greeted us with song; it was more than what we could imagine!

This condo was very prepared for our stay. It included many everyday household kitchen appliances, a television with wifi and a dvd player. The cabinets included seran wrap, salt and pepper, and many more every day kitchen items. The bathrooms to these condos were perfect. They were properly maintained and cleaned, including extra bath and beach towels.

The part of the condo my spouse and I love the most is definitely the balcony. The condo first feels warm, but as soon as you open the shutter, a nice air fills the entire condo. A pair of chairs and table is set up for the convenience of sitting, and also in the corner are beach chairs, boogie boards and a Hammock. The Hammock is stretched across the balcony with the sun tanning on you when you lay in it.

Overall, I would more than recommend this condo to you. I would tell you to book now! It felt nice to come back and relax at the condo after being out and about in Puerto Rico. They provided us with a book that included important numbers to contact, and also a print out they made of their recommended places to visit. The condo is in a location where attractions are close by. We are absolutely going to stay here the next time we come back to Puerto Rico. I would definitely recommend this condo. You will not be let down!!

The Perfect Vacation.

  • 5 of 5

This has been the best vacationing spot. I love the intimacy and comfort of the Condo instead of being in an everyday, destitute hotel. When I walked into the condo, it was clean and everything was in order. It felt like I was coming home after a long trip. The second thing I noticed about the condo is that the view is not exaggerated. The condo is on the third floor and there is the beach that is not more than a few yards away from the building. The beach outside the condo is gorgeous and great for swimming on the few relaxing days that are not full of adventures from around the rest of Puerto Rico.

The Condo is close to just about everything we wanted to do during our vacation. Everything is within a half an hour distance including San Juan, the Ferry to Culebra, El Yunque Rainforest, and the Bio Bay adventure that we tried from Kayaking Puerto Rico. Not to mention all of the delicious food that is right around the condo. The Luquillo Kiosks are not farther than a five minute drive down the road and there are so many different options to choose from, I could have went to a different one every night.

Also, there is a Walmart and Walgreens about ten minutes down the road for any supplies needed. We stored a bunch of breakfast food in the fridge so we could stay in and relax in the beautiful Condo with all of the windows open and watch the sun rise into the sky. The breeze that comes off the sea from the ocean is a friendly reminder of the calming weather in Puerto Rico, and with the windows open it feels like the sea is greeting you with every gust of wind. And just in case it is too warm or muggy for anyone, there is Air Conditioning that is easily accessible for every room. There is plenty of room for a family, or even 7 adults, with two rooms and a pull out couch.

This was better than what I could have hoped for. I will definitely be renting from Karlene and Paul again. They both were wonderful with assisting us in any way. I would love to visit Puerto Rico, and more specifically The Playa Fortuna Condo, again.

Thank You.

My favorite vacation location

  • 5 of 5

Watching the sunrise above the palm trees, on the porch with the french doors open, listening to the ocean waves, sipping coffee (with a splash of Don Q)- Every morning should start this way.

Last week was my fourth stay at this location and I look forward to staying here again. The beach right outside is great for boogie boarding and very private; but I also enjoy walking to the near by balneario for sun bathing. Along the way is the kioskos- cute little shops a some restaurants. If you stop to check them out, make sure to order a rum filled coconut from the local bar n grill. I like to take it to go on my beach stroll back to the condo.

In my opinion, this rental is the perfect location for so many adventures. The entrance to el Yunque rainforest is right down the street where you can hike trails and swim in a waterfall. Head into Fejardo to charter a boat and go snorkeling; or take the ferry to Culebra and swim with sea turtles.

It's evident that the owners take pride in this rental property by the new furniture, fresh paint, and a flat screen TV with cable. I love being able to enjoy the outdoors with all the comforts of home. Thanks to the WiFi, I also like to upload all of my vacation pictures for my friends to see.

I've been home less than a week and can't wait for trip # 5 !

Not what we expected

  • 2 of 5

This was our 9th vacation rental so we knew what we were looking for. This rental is not quite what the description states. First the unit itself is not renovated at all. It does have nice has new furniture. The bathrooms and kitchen are very old and there are lots of things broken or not working. 2nd it is on the beach, but not accessible for most. The gate to the beach is very difficult to open, then it is a few steps down and then about a 3-4 foot drop to rocks covered with chicken wire. Even if you did get down, you couldn't get back up. During our stay the tide was too high to even try.

What we liked:

+Great views

+Nice location near rain forest, kiosks, nice public beaches and not far from San Juan

+Fresh towels brought mid week.

What we didn't like:

-Ants in the kitchen- they came and cleaned them out, but we had to keep all food in the fridge as they were never gone.

-No oven - just a stove top

-VERY slippery tile floors - we had 3 falls. The entry to the building, the stairs and the unit are all tile and even walking slowly can be hazardous.

-Pigeons. Yes - pigeons. They roost on the AC units in the bedrooms (which are very loud) and start cooing at about 4am every day. Very hard to get a full night sleep.

- Security Gates. It's nice to be secure, but it was a little discomforting to be locked in with 2 keys. There is a gate at the bottom of the stairs and a gate at the door to the unit that can only be opened by a key. If your group splits up the people left in the unit are literally locked in.

Owner's Response: My wife and I are sorry that the condo was not quite what you were expecting. Feedback, both good and bad, is always welcome. We will do our best to address the concerns you have raised. I imagine that the exact definition of the word “renovated” is up to interpretation. Beyond replacing all of the furniture and repainting every room in the condo, considerable work was put into replacing light fixtures, ceiling fans, faucets, sinks, etc. The kitchen cabinets were left untouched because they were in good condition and solid, not cheap pressboard which would deteriorate quickly in the salt air and warm climate. The condo itself was built in the late nineties so they are just over 15 years old. However, to ensure we are not misrepresenting the condo we will edit the wording of description. As you can imagine renting the condo as a vacation property can be very hard on it. We strive to make sure any repairs needed are done quickly. I’m unaware of any items that are broken at this time. If you could provide a list we will correct them ASAP. We are concerned about the erosion of the beach you mention. The height of sand cyclically raises and lowers with the seasons which exposes, or covers, the stairs to the beach. However, what you describe is lower than we have personally ever seen. The amount beach itself does change with the tides and seasons, sometimes there is more, sometimes there is less, beach exposed. We’ve owned the condo for several years and never had an issue of not being able to enjoy the soft sand of the beach and the warm ocean water during our visits. We will make a note of it in the Homeaway description and work with the condo association to extend the stairs until the ocean replenishes the beach sand. Insects and pigeons are a common issue in Puerto Rico. We fumigate the condo regularly to prevent any issues with insects. We apologize for the ant problem you experienced and have already had the exterminator out to the condo to deal with it. We were aware of the pigeons roosting on the AC units outside the bedroom windows, while they have never prevented us from having a good night sleep; we want our guests to be comfortable and well rested. We will find a humane way to deal with the issue.
