This cozy bungalow is tucked into the rainforest and as the other reviewers have said, it is a wonderful place to stay. My partner and I just spent a week there and used it as a base to explore the Volcano NP, Puna and K"au. Coming home at night to a fully stocked kitchen and a fireplace was a great way to relax at the end of the day. Vicky is an artist and has great taste in the paintings, photos, and ceramics that make this VRBO rental a unique and personal place to stay. She is also a great resource.
What a great place to stay in Volcano Village— much larger than a bungalow. We stayed four nights and loved it! The rental is surrounded by beautiful, lush scenery of gigantic ferns, tall trees, and fragrant flowers. The house is clean and has everything you could imagine-- a fully stocked, large kitchen, a library of reading material, artwork, two very comfortable beds, washer/dryer, and lots of large windows to enjoy the lovely scenery typical of Volcano Village. The on-site owner, Vicky, was kind and accommodating. We greatly appreciated her telling us about the Big Island volcanoes and taking us to the observatory. We would definitely recommend staying here.
My husband and I spent a week in this wonderful, lovely, and quiet private home. The house is very spacious yet cozy. The fireplace is a great plus. We used it as a base to explore the Volcano National Park, Puna, and Hilo. The owner, Vicki, was very helpful and warm. She also gave us a tour to the Volcano Observation Laboratory which was extremely interesting. We enjoyed our stay very much and highly recommend this place as a home away from home on the Big Island.
My 20-year-old son and I stayed at Ho’omaika’i and it truly was a blessing. Serrendipity brought us to Ho’omaika’i. The house was appointed with cut flowers and greenery in the hostess' beautifully handcrafted ceramic vases, and each room had a different arrangement. Our hostess welcomed us into her home and spent precious time to share with us about the volcano area, her love and knowledge of volcanos, and also life in the islands. She gave us plenty of privacy and was always available if we needed her attention. There are a number of rooms in the house and the yard is private and landscaped with rainforest species. The house is clean and well stocked. The kitchen had all the appliances, dishware, cookware, and condiments needed to cook at home. A visit to the grocery store before arrival is smart as supplies are limited in Volcano. The house is located very close to the National park and to town. The volcano area is definitely a magical place. Our hostess and her lovely home made our healing and memorable vacation. I couldn't imagine doing it any other way. Thank you!
Driving up the mountain toward the volcano was an adventure, but as I neared the rain forest the soothing climate unraveled a mystery that was totally unexpected. The house is lovely, cozy, private, comfortable and really beautiful, with gardens to match. The beauty of the surrounding hapu ferns, the orchids, the flowers and the song of the birds made me realize that I had maybe entered into the holiday of a lifetime....It was everything I hoped it for more More! The owner was friendly, quiet, and so accommodating, and as she is of Hawaiian decent she knows the islands as only a local can. She was able to suggest day trips that opened my eyes to the islands. Besides the breathtaking ocean jaunts, greensand beaches, the trips to beautiful Hilo, the Volcano open market on Sunday, one of the most stunning journeys of my life was a night trip to witness the glow of Halemaumau. The volcano changed me, as I am sure it can change your life! If you want a real Hawaiian experience, stay in this lovely eco-hideaway. I'm still so pleased I did.
My wife and I really enjoyed our time we spent here. The owner is very nice and accomodating. We were given good advice on where to go and what to see. Unfortunately we did not get to visit enough. The apartment is quite nice and cozy. Well kept and clean. This is a wonderful place to relax and take day trips from. I am very glad we were able to make this location part of our Haiwii trip. I highly recommend staying here and avoid some of the resorts or hotels.
