This house has been in my family for 4 generations. It used to be the Belle Ayre Post Office and later, the Town Clerk's office. Surrounded by thousands of acres of Catskill Park, Belle Ayre House is the perfect escape! A large wrap-around porch greets you as you arrive-perfect for watching sunsets or a summer rain. Inside, the dining room with fireplace is just the spot for cozy dinners. The modern kitchen has everything needed for preparing meals. 3 beautifully decorated bedrooms upstairs let you sleep in peace and quiet, hearing only the sound of the stream in summer. 2 large bathrooms: one with vintage clawfoot tub and radiant heat in the floor; the other has a large walk-in shower. Plenty of cozy nooks to sit and read or take a nap. Full size washer & dryer in laundry room. Outside, a bonfire pit behind the house is perfect for roasting marshmallows and telling campfire stories. Enjoy strolls up or down the road. Lots of wildlife and beauty to be seen. Just up the road (3 miles) is the trailhead to the Balsam Mountain Fire Tower. This is not to be missed in any season! 360 degree views from the top of the tower! Belleayre Ski Center is a 15 minute drive. Grocery store and restaurants are all 15 minutes away as well. We look forward to your stay at Belle Ayre House!
We had a terrific stay at the Belle Ayre House. Wendy (owner) was a pleasure to work with. She was responsive and available for any questions as was Lisa who cares for the house on behalf of the owner. The house was very interestingly decorated and had many warm cozy spots for our group. We had a 20 month old and was so happy to have a high chair, pack and play and assortment of toys available for us. And, everything was very clean and neat. Our only suggestion would be to improve the lighting a bit. Just very dim in some of the rooms. Overall though, a lovely and relaxing trip to Belleayre.
We spent 4 nights in the farm house. It was clean and comfortable. Wendy was very easy to deal with and Lisa and John, the property managers were wonderful. You absolutely need a 4 wheel drive for this property as it is in the back roads and although they salt and sand them quickly, it could be difficult to drive in the snow. I am giving it 4 stars because the plumbing was problematic, as the toilets backed up easily and the plungers are flimsy. The gas fireplace was not working and although John and Lisa came immediately to fix it, they were unable to do so. But all in all, it was clean and comfortable and if you like the back roads, an amazing place to stay.
This is a cute house with a great kitchen. We enjoyed our stay although we did not have heat the first night so it was freezing for us. There are also a lot of lady bugs in the room by the attic (seems to be an infestation as they keep landing on my husband at night when we were sleeping). There were ample towels but not enough linens (we didn't have anything to cover the futon). The housekeepers are helpful and responded to our heater issue early next morning after they saw my email so kudos to them for that.
Western Catskills is one of my favorite places and in the summer it is glorious with farm stands and markets, concerts and Art events. We spent 6 relaxing weeks in this lovely, renovated farmhouse. Working farms are nearby and the big front porch is a great place to sit and watch the hummingbirds zooming around in the beautiful garden. It's on a very quiet road. You are located about 15 minutes drive from the town of Margaretville and can drive to ponds and hiking trails in the area. The house has three big bedrooms. Coming from a small city apartment I enjoyed the spaciousness of the house and the nicely designed kitchen. The house is well maintained and the owner is responsive to any problems that might arise. This was a great place to spend July and August.
My wife and I rented this house very last minute over a long weekend to get out of the city and see some mountains leaves. It's really a great place. The house is old yet very well maintained and has some character, which we really loved. The kitchen is good too, which was important to us as we tend to cook a lot on these quick get aways. The only downside was that the fire place was a gas one rather than a real one, though that may have been mentioned in the description. It was still very nice. The big porch was delightful. We ate breakfast on it and enjoyed just hanging out there.
Where the house really shines is in its setting. It's in one of those old, narrow Catskills valleys, about 20 minutes outside of Margaretville. There are neighbors across the street, but not much else. Even the neighbors across the street are far enough away to make you feel like you're quite secluded. It's also close to lots of great hiking. The Balsam Mtn firepower was pretty unbelievable and a relatively short hike, and fishing on Alder Lake was fun.
Wendy was very accommodating, especially considering the fact that we rented her house the day before we arrived. We'll be back for sure.
do not pre-assume! the house might look like a country house but once you step into the house you will have a great kitchen and space-saving but roomy enough rooms on 2nd fl. 7-8 people will be perfect for this house.
PRO: nice kitchen / wi-fi / flat screen tv w/ hdmi / spacious rooms / supplies are ready for use / rest place, watch tv & cook all they long.
CON: no cell phone works here / no lock on 1fl bathroom / a little dusty (i am allergic to dust) / rest place, there's nothing to do in nearby
overall, this is a nice getaway worth trying this place and the owner is really nice.
Pakatakan Farmers' Market May-October, Belleayre Ski Center, Delaware & Ulster Rail Ride, boating, swimming, TONS of hiking trails within just a few miles of the house!!!
