Camp Windrush is a private family compound that we have owned since 1996. The original camp was built in 1909 and was basically in original condition when we purchased it. We immediatly started a total restoration that included re-building all remaining original buildings and adding all new amenities. The camp is now totally upgraded and restored but retains the feel of the original 1909 buildings. Windrush is a true Adirondack Great Camp, rustic but elegant, that cannot be replicated today.
Unquestionably the best property available for weekly rental in the Adirondack Mountains.
Located directly on Spitfire Lake, the beautiful and pristine middle lake of the interconnected three lake St. Regis chain of lakes, consisting of Upper St. Regis Lake, Spitfire Lake and Lower St. Regis Lake. Known as 'The Newport of the Adirondacks' for its numerous Adirondack Great Camps built during the Gilded Age by many of the captains of industry and wealth, many of which remain in the original families.
Great Camp Windrush is located at the extreme northern end of the lake on a private bay, virtually ensuring peacefulness and quiet. Hours may literally pass with no sound other than that of loons calling across the water or the occasional passing of a canoe or Adirondack Guideboat.
There is no commercial development on any of the three lakes and jet skis and other personal watercraft are prohibited by local ordinance. Wilderness canoe/kayaking is available directly north of the property in a vast area that has not changed in thousands of years. Fishing is known to be outstanding, either from the docks on the property of from any of the several boats that are included. Easy access to the protected St. Regis Canoe Area with thousands of acres of lakes and streams, accessible only by human powered watercraft is a short paddle across the lakes.
Great Camp Windrush is truly an opportunity to experience the Adirondack Mountains in rustic elegance as it was enjoyed over 100 years ago.
