Raven's Quest ( the name of our cottage )
This was truly a dream cottage for several reasons.
It's location and property layout. You have complete privacy at the cottage with its 500 ft of water frontage. While the cottage is nestled in amongst the trees - it is just 35ft from the water's edge and is also close to the boathouse/dock. No long steep walks to the lake, yet still complete privacy. The cottage get the beautiful morning sun throughout - yet due to the point of land it the dock recieves all day sun - from sunrise to sunset.
Skeleton Lake was our pick of lake - it is truly considered the jewel of Muskoka due to its pristine waters. The lake is crystal clear (you can see 30 feet down) and one of the cleanest lakes in Ontario.
Although it is the 4th largest lake in Muskoka it does not have the boat traffic that prevents one from having complete relaxation, privacy and safety for children. There are many islands close to the cottage as well as beautiful long views down the lake. It is truly a spectacular place.
The cottage is truly a luxury cottage, not just from its size and location but from the amenities and decor. No expense has been spared with the furnishings to provide the sense for each renter as though it were their own luxury cottage - not one they are renting. From the gourmet kitchen and equipment to the sink and snooze away couches. The muskoka room is completely screened but also with cathederal ceilings to give the outdoor feeling. You can even hear the water lapping the shoreline.
Although Skeleton Lake is the fourth largest lake in Muskoka, Skeleton Lake contains the largest open body of water in all the Muskoka Lakes. It is one of the most pristine lakes left in Ontario, and is often considered the jewel of Muskoka. Many cottagers love this spring-fed lake for its crystal-clear water and abundance of rocky headlands and islands. It also boasts over 30 islands waiting to be discovered. For the boating enthusiast, the shoreline has an abundance of coves and inlets to explore. Skeleton Lake is the perfect spot for boating, canoeing, sailing, fishing, snorkelling, swimming, diving rocks, or just listening for the call of the loon.
The Village of Rosseau which is just 10-15 minutes away hosts a Farmer's Market every Friday in the summer months with organic produce, baked goods and local arts and crafts. The Seguin Steamship also sails in on market days. The Village has it all to fulfill your needs and desires. There is also a beautiful sandy beach with a public docking area, local restaurants and a marina. Further activities include boating, hiking, kayaking and fishing excursions.
The cottage is in the midst of the Muskoka lakes. We are within easy driving range of multiple world class golf ranges, downhill skiing (cross-country and snowshoeing out the door), and snowmobiling.
There is fantastic cycling and mountain biking terrain in the areas surrounding Raven’s Quest starting at the driveway.
Walking and Hiking
Whether you want a leisurely stroll or a challenging hike you will enjoy the many backroads and trails from which to choose.
You will find much to see wandering our backroads, but keep your eyes out for wildlife such as deer, foxes and wild turkeys. Enjoy the many farm stands, maple syrup stands and arts and crafts studios you will find as you wind your way through nearby country laneways. There are also many opportunities for antique hunting in nearby towns.
Let nature draw you out to explore your surroundings.
There are so many natural treats in store for you in and around Raven‘s Quest. From the many windows of the cottage you can engage in birdwatching, or step out onto the decks for some star-gazing in brilliantly clear skies. You can visit conservation areas or go on guided treks.
So much to do!
The Muskoka region is brimming with things to do year round. In fact, the region has even received the attention of National Geographic magazine!
Here is just a small sample of some of the region’s activities.
Skeleton Lake was formed by the impact of a meteor, which accounts for its somewhat circular shape and great depth. That is also the reason for the limestone bottom, which gives the lake its famous clarity - some of the clearest in all of Canada. On a calm day it is possible to see up to 30+ feet underwater with the naked eye.
There are many species of fish that inhabit this lake, which include smallmouth bass, lake trout, speckled trout, brown trout, rock bass and walleye.
