About Lizz & Nate Badgley

Hubby found this this house in his early years and loves the area. He spent his roaring 20's in Greenwater and has hiked, snowmobiled, skied, ate and played a lot in these woods. I grew up in the city but as a kid schools bussed us up to Crystal Mountain when they used to have night ski for something to do on a Friday evening. Now many, many years later, we bring our kids up and keep them outside a lot. We wanted the comforts of home and the luxuries of what you would find in a really nice hotel in one place. Your comfort is seriously our number #1 priority as we want others to enjoy the house as much as we do.

Lizz & Nate Badgley purchased this house in 1999

Why Lizz & Nate Badgley chose Greenwater

This house started as a tiny cabin that was crafted into one of Greenwater's most unique homes. My hubby had a vision of a rustic modern house with a vast amount of windows to allow nature indoors. The close proximity to all the beauty Mt Rainier and Crystal Mountain has to offer is a bonus. I love the fact that I can be on a trail in less than 2 minutes and walk or ride my bike for miles.

What makes this house unique

Easy in and out access of the house. Luxury bedding and high end mattresses allow for a dreamy night of sleep. The Jacuzzi steam spa is out of this world. The master bedroom can accommodate a large family equipped with a queen bed, full futon and mini loft and large walk in closet for longer stays. Heated floors, large backyard complete with fire pit, BBQ. Clean, spacious and comfortable, you won't want to leave!

Plus you can always call us day or night for anything and if you want suggestions on what to do or hike planning-we can help with that! We live less than an hour away so you can have the peace of mind that if anything goes wrong, we are close by and my hubby can fix almost anything. We want you to enjoy every minute of your vacation so we are here for you. if you have any suggestions for future amenities, let us know. We try to add new features monthly.

Close to The Snorting Elk at Crystal Mountain which houses live entertainment with Bavarian charm or relax in the Bullwheel Bar and Grill that offers scenic views of the mountain. The historic Naches Tavern offers pools tables and a dart board or relax on the couch in front of the large fireplace.

Guestbook comments from the owner

If you are going to Mount Rainier you are headed that way to see it. You really won't spend much time in the cabin. What you need is a comfortable and convenient location to use to launch your exploration of the mountain from.

This cabin was perfect for that. Clean, comfortable, quiet. Close to Crystal Mountain if you want to Ski and just north of Mount Rainier. (owner posted from tripadvisor)

The owners were very helpful and pleasant to work with. They helped me plan the vacation.

Summer Fun with three generations!

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here with my husband, my sister's family and my parents for 2 nights, 3 days. The first thing everyone said upon walking in was "WoW!" The house is airy and full of skylights. Everything was clean and easy to use (well-marked). There was an awesome fire pit outside with firewood provided. We had a campfire every night. We roasted s'mores and looked for shooting stars. You can see so many more stars in Greenwater than in the city. The bath/spaceship downstairs was amazing! My sister said it was the best bath ever and she made us all take one. She was right! Music, lights, steam, jets, bubbles! I was worried we would run out of hot water, but we never did! There was plenty of room for 3 separate couples to have privacy and space to themselves. My husband and I took the loft and it was cozy, but fun. There is river access in the next cul-de-sac a few steps away. It was fun to wade through the water and dig your toes in the gooey sand/silt. There wasn't much beach, but the river itself is entertaining. Best of all, the owners were very quick to respond and quite accommodating. We requested early check in and got a response right away. They even emailed to let us know we can check out late if we like. I had a hard time finding the river access and they emailed within minutes of my inquiry. The price was great for such an amazing house. This was a great house for a family with kids (or without kids :o). I think we will be back for years to come!

FYI: The general store is open until 6pm, so plan accordingly. Bring long campfire sticks for roasting marshmallows. They supplied short sticks, but it got a bit toasty on the hands :o) The pantry had a lot of supplies, but I think it just depends on who left what before you. Bring your own supplies, just in case.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your wonderful review. We are so happy that you enjoyed the house. We have extra long marshmallow sticks on their way up to the home next week. I will also make up a trail map to make it easier for everyone to find the river spots near the house. Please do stay again!

Returning Renters

  • 4 of 5

The process of renting Crystal Rainier Retreat was so simple and easy. Nate was very helpful and quick to answer questions and supply needed details. Of course, we knew we were getting the most wonderful, tastefully decorated and spacious vacation rental in Greenwater because we had stayed here once before, in 2011. We knew that it was important to stay longer this visit, because we wanted to truly take advantage of everything this home and it's location have to offer. When we walked through the front door, it felt like home! So wonderful to be back and be able to spend time preparing and eating meals here, enjoying the hammock on a warm summer evening, having a fire in the firepit in the back yard, and of course who can resist THE SHOWER? The main floor bathroom has the most relaxing and user-friendly steam/shower unit I've had the pleasure to spend time in! We all took turns enjoying it. This home is close to civilization (ie. gas, groceries) yet is on the doorstep of some of the most iconic National Forests in the PNW. Everytime Mt. Rainier comes into view it takes your breath away. We found the weather to be most cooperative and clear for all our outdoor pursuits and would chose to stay here during August again. The only teeny tiny little issue we've experienced here is the road noise from the very busy highway (410). Thanks, Nate, for a great experience once again! Hopefully, we'll be back.

One of the Best!

  • 5 of 5

As someone who utilizes rental/vacation homes around 2 to 4 times a year, it's a pretty big statement to say this is one of the BEST vacation rentals we've had the privilege of spending our 4th of July in.

I'm sure others who regularly use vacation rentals can attest that generally photographs provided on sites such as VRBO tend to display cabins in a more positive state than some of them generally are. In this case I don't feel the pictures do it justice.

To say the place was clean and well kept is a bit of an understatement. The place was immaculate and although I'm not sure who has done the decorating, hats off to them!! The place feels very centered and comfortable. The regular things can be said, the beds were comfortable, all appliances were in working order. The backyard has a beautiful fire pit (which we were lazy and didn't do). The steam sauna is a thing of dreams (forget the hot tub, this thing is better).

Above the norm I feel that Liz and Nate go out of their way to make your experience 5 stars. There was a note on a whiteboard welcoming us and providing contact information should we need anything. We found a nice bottle of wine and chocolates all over the place (on pillows, etc). The cabin itself is just gorgeous, not just on the outside, the bathroom and kitchen fixtures are gorgeous, there is an actual BLU-RAY player (which is not entirely common). Our child was able to utilize the loft and included WII to give mom and dad some extra quiet time, and from the time we checked in until our departure we just had a VERY relaxing stay.

The only problem is that we didn't WANT TO LEAVE!!!!

Thanks so much Nate for your assistance and for letting us spend a few days in your beautiful vacation rental.

Rustic Contemporary Home near Crystal Mountain

  • 5 of 5

The accommodations were more than what we'd hoped for! The owners were helpful with all our questions. The home was even better than the photos. It was immaculate, comfortable, and well arranged in a beautiful setting. There were 10 adults and all slept comfortably with adequate privacy. The kitchen was super to cook in and supplied with dishes, pots, pans, utensils, and silverware. We took the short drive up to Crystal and walked to the gorgeous river. We will definitely look for an opportunity to stay again We would like to spend a week-end during the winter. We would highly recommend a stay at this beautiful home for a relaxing and/or adventurous get-away.

Great Cabin Get Away

  • 5 of 5

The cabin as everything you need for a relaxing get away with family and friends! It is nicely furnished, very clean, and has every amenity you would want, spa shower, boot / glove dryer / well stocked kitchen including coffee, board games to play, two TVs, washer /dryer etc. It is set up so that three families with small kids could stay comfortably - there are two bedrooms each having an additional pull out bed in them, a loft that that the kids loved, and another area above the living room with two futon couches. The best part is that it's affordable enough to stay with just one family and expandable enough to invite others to join you! We really enjoyed it. It's comfortable, clean and was a great place to come back to after a great day on the hill.
