We had a wonderful month in the DC area, and this comfortable, clean, well-appointed colonial townhouse was an excellent home base. The neighborhood is very safe and perfect for daily walks. Buses run right in front of the townhouse taking you to nearby old town Alexandria or metro stops. Sophisticated Shirlington, with its excellent restaurants, a grocery store and shops, is a 15 minute walk, by way of a pedestrian bridge over I-395. Without traffic, a ten minute drive on I-395 takes you to Washington Reagan Airport or downtown DC. Dan, the owner, responded to e-mails promptly and made the rental process easy. He lives a few blocks from the townhouse and was so nice about answering any questions we had during the month.
What a great, relaxing place to come back to after a busy day of sightseeing! This condo is equipped with everything that you will need for your "home away from home". It was very comfortable and clean. We had no need for a car as the buses stop right across the street to take you to the metro station to transfer for wherever you want to go. Besides all of the Washington sights, be sure to visit Old Town Alexandria, which has many historical sights also. Dan was very easy to work with. We would definitely recommend this property to our friends and family!
This town home was clearly a home, as confirmed by the very personable, responsive owner. It is decorated just like your home might be. It's in a great location, very close to the freeway, 10 minutes from all the downtown tourist locations. For a pretty busy street, it is very quiet since it is up a hill, and parking was never a problem.
My only complaint, the bed was extremely firm. And there is no place to put your feet up after walking 5 miles a day as a tourist, just a love seat and Queen Anne chairs.
My family (2 Adults and 3 kids, 11,8 and 3) stayed at this condo in August while touring the DC area. The location is fantastic, easy on and off the freeway and less than 10 minutes to the National Mall area. Right across the freeway in Shirlington is a very nice area with plenty of shops, restaurants and such. My kids took advantage of the pools that are available to rest their tired feet after a day of the museums. The owner of the condo (Dan) is great to work with. This was an all around great experience for my family!!!
We made our plans to spend a full week in Washington in spite of the unlikely possibility of a government shutdown.... The shutdown materialised, but this house made all the difference.
Location is perfect, with the elegance and tranquility of suburban Alexandria combined with immediate access to DC and Old town Alexandria.
We wanted to feel as much as possible the "local" experience, away from the car and using public transportation to move around. The bus runs in front of the house and stops are just a few metres away in either direction. Metro stops at either the Pentagon or Old Town Alexandria are a few minutes away, and DC or the Reagan airport are only a few stops further.
A supermarket (on the pricier side), a cinema, a theatre, a bakery, bars, and a bunch of fine restaurants are a 10 min walk away across the higway in Shirlington. The 5 blocks walk has the thrill of a pedestiran overpass over I 395, which is very well lit and used by pedestrians and cyclists alike at any time of day. We must have ceossed it ten times with my wife and kids on the way and back form the movies, the store and the restaurants.
In Old Town Alexandria we rented bikes and rode to DC on a beautiful day with a picnic stop on the beautiful Mt. Vernon trail
The house is very cozy, with windows to three of its sides looking into beautiful trees. We had fun counting squirrels and chipmonks out in the garden.
Our boy (13) and girl (10) shared the smaller room with two twin beds, and my wife and I the ample master bederoom with a king size. There is ample storage room for those travelling heavy.
Dan (the super nice owner) keeps his place perfectly equipped and in working order. The kitchenette has everything you need, with all the essential appliances, including diswasher.
We know the community has a few swimming pools that you can use if you rent here, but only during the summer. It was too late for us. Parking is easy in this quiet street. If you have bikes, you will have to keep them out in the porch.
Dealing with Dan via email or phone couldn't be easier, and he lives just five blocks away should you need him.
This property works very well with or without a car. My recommendation: a virtual visit using Street View.
You will love it!
I recently stayed here during a family vacation with my husband and 4 kids. The rental was just as described and made for a very pleasant stay. The kids really enjoyed the pools after long, hot, days of walking in DC. The pedestrian bridge to Sherlington was an easy walk to access many restaurants. Parking was convenient, even if the lot was full there was always a spot very nearby on the street. Dan was wonderful to work with, very attentive and kind. Would highly recommend!
