The Seahorse Cottage served as the perfect spot for our 'baby moon'. we were married in eleuthera and wanted to return for our anniversary / baby moon, but wanted to stay somewhere different, low key, close to culture, someplace easy and we hit the jackpot! It might not be perfect for all (esp all pregnant ladies!), so if you want your room service and your towel boy at the beach - this might not be your speed. BUT, if you're a little more laid back, adventurous and open to island life (i.e., using a flashlight around grounds at night, going outdoors to your shower), this could be your idea of heaven! The cottage is set up with every last detail you could ever need or appreciate - even all the dishes/towels coordinate, so its a perfectly soothing environment and you have everything you need. We loved our morning coffee on our private patio overlooking the water and it was nice to be able to balance some eating in and some eating out. Having wifi was a huge plus too - so we could balance some work in as needed - it's not always easy to come by on the island so having it was a huge! The grounds are gorgeous - like visiting a horticultural park and Kimy and Terry are so great;friendly, accommodating and helpful with anything you need. An easy walk to the market, shops, restaurants, the water, quick drive to a most gorgeous beach, close proximity to things like glass window bridge, queens baths, preachers cave, harbor island....truly a perfect location. We loved Gregory Town, the cottage, Terry & Kimy (& Morocco too!) and our stay there just endeared us more to Eleuthera. We can't wait to go back!
Once in a lifetime you find yourself where you are supposed to be in the right place and time.
I, luckily, have had the opportunity to experience this twice. The first, with my wife on the day we married, and the second, on the day we arrived to meet Kimy and Terry on our honeymoon in Gregory Town.
My wife and I had no real, qualitative, or tangible expectations about the Seahorse Cottage other than the seclusion and simplicity we sought for our special time together. We intentionally avoided the large tourist traps on the other islands and actively searched for a relatively uninhabited and quiet place to be with one another, and largely, somewhere to be ourselves. Our choice and our hosts did not disappoint us.
Kimy and Terry both are incredibly interesting, dynamic, talented, and wonderfully open people. We spent our sun-filled mornings with them sipping coffee over close chatter and our evenings at the Tiki Bar sharing stories with local people, local beer, imported guests and liquor, while watching colorful sunsets.
The well-manicured grounds are spectacularly lush with local tropical flowers, trees, bananas, herbs (for your taking) and are populated by colorful birds, speedy prehistoric lizards, an array of frogs, and one big, stupid dog who will eat your face. I'm kidding. The house dog named Morocco is more likely to eat the lunch meat you buy from the “7 to 11” store down the hill in town. He really has no interest in your face and who knows what he thinks? He is a big, sweet, canine lummox and when he has a lizard in his sights nothing else matters: not you, not your lunch meat, not even the stool you might be perched atop.
Of course you have read that this is not the place for all travelers, yet if you are looking for quiet time, seclusion, beauty, forever sunsets, and a place to relax and come to peace with all the glory which is The REAL Bahamas, then come here. Kimy and Terry will accept you, they will provide for you, and if you let them they will become a part of you and this is the best of all things.
It was a joy to meet Kimy, Terry, Christine and Desmond and the place was everything that we expected and much more. Beautiful, serene, clean, simple yet well equipped. We enjoyed the cottage, the grounds, the coconuts, and taking the kayaks on the cove. We have already recommended the cottage to friends and family and we will be back.
My husband and I literally just got back yesterday from our stay in Eleuthera. I don't even know where to begin as far as bragging on the place. It was the most amazing experience we've ever had. From the hospitality, culture, food, adventures, exploring, and cozy living arrangements, we could not have had a better experience. Terry and kimy were so amazing, kind, and warm, we felt right at home the whole time. The cottage was perfect for our needs, the grounds were beautiful, all of the views were post card worthy. The island is literally the worlds best kept secret that has so many wonderful treasures to discover, you just can't put a price on. We will definitely be planning a return stay in the future. We loved every single moment and are oh so sad it ended :(
Love you guys!!
We just returned from two glorious weeks at the Starfish Cottage. Sooo much to do, or if you like, do nothing but stare at the beautiful cove below the cottage. During our stay, we went to Harbour Island with our new friends from the Tamarind Tree Cottage. We rented a golf cart, had lunch at the Pink Sands Resort and spent a delightful afternoon on the pink sand beach. A must see is Ben Bay Beach. Oh my, will never forget that beauty. Surfer's Beach and Gaulding Cay are close by and spectacular as well. The contrast of color at Glass
Window Bridge will blow your mind. Good eats at The Front Porch, Tippy's and the conch salad at Unca Gene's in Gregory Town is so fresh and delicious; a 5 minute walk from the Seahorse. We cooked a lot in the cottage as well and you don't need to go far to get fresh fish. We swam, snorkeled, bobbed and talked in the cove everyday. Kimy & Terry are going craaazzzy with ongoing projects on the property. The new steps and dock were completed before we arrived. Love, love, love that dock! We got to see the stone wall from start to finish (wowzer) and there is more to come. On the other side of the cove is a very special, rugged spot to swim, cliff dive and jump. Might even see a mermaid ;o) We were sad to leave our new home away from home and our dear, new friends Kimy, Terry & Morocco, who, by the way, are the bests hosts. Kimy knows Eleuthera inside out and can help you plan out your daily excursions. But we will be back, that is for sure as there is so much more to see and do. Until then, we will keep our memories of beautiful Eleuthera and the sweet people of Gregory Town, close to our hearts.
Seahorse cottage was a perfect place for our vacation. Kim & Terry are great hosts and always there when you need a hand. The deck overlooking the cove, hiking, snorkeling, swimming, exploring, great food, very friendly locals......and just kicking-back. Love the outdoor shower. Gregory Town is a great home-base for exploring the rest of the island.
If you want to rent a vehicle.....reserve one very early. We did not find a car to rent a month before going to Eleuthera. No worries. Eleuthera is extremely safe and the locals will always give you a lift. Harbor Island was nice.....with the three mile long pink sand beach. Rent a golf cart to get around. Spanish Wells was fantastic! We went there with new friends Dave & Gayle......and rented a golf cart here, also. We found lobster and giant red starfish while snorkling here. But mostly we will miss Gregory Town. Good food....good company.....and relaxing! Thank you Kim & Terry for letting us stay at Seahorse cottage. We will definitely make our way back Eleuthera in the future.
