We have lived and farmed on orcas since 1988, while also teaching and traveling over this time. We have raised all of our children on the island.
Mimi Anderson purchased this farmhouse in 1988
You will find the beauty here touches you in more ways than one. This land has a rich history of homesteading and healing. As our home of over 25 years,we have not only raised our children here, we have lovingly established an operational and educational organic farm business as a part of the land.We are committed to stewarding a place of growing, learning, healing and creating. We are honored to share this island sanctuary including our 25 year old organic farm business with other families and friends. We are always learning ourselves. Not only has the farm produced thousands of pounds of vital food over the years,we have witnessed people of all ages be nourished by their total experience of being here. We look forward to hosting more gatherings or quiet individual retreats in the future.
Our stay at Morning Star Farm was simply amazing. We could not imagine a better wedding - and many of our guests also said it was the best wedding they'd ever attended. This was in no small part thanks to the one-of-a-kind setting. We had our reception at the farm, making use of all the different gathering spots (the barn, firepit, a huge lawn) it was great to have everything in one place. The bridal party was also able to stay and get ready on-site, which was wonderful.
Mimi and Steve were exceptional and their staff were all so friendly and helpful. They recommended vendors, met me for multiple visits to the Farm, gave advice, and most importantly, made sure we and our guests had everything we needed and that everything came together perfectly the weekend of the wedding.
Morning Star Farm was reasonably priced and definitely worth every penny - I could not be any happier with how it all turned out! Highly highly recommend!
Two couples, Portland and vancouver BC. The cabin was spacious and comfortable. The pets adopted us and we them.
Fluffy the dog
Chat and kit- sibling cats
Haystack - long haired aloof cat
Saturday farmers market, doe bay kayaking, outdoor BBQ, quiet starry sleepy nights.
A little piece of paradise for weary city people.
Side note - no wifi- which really is the correct environment.
Thank you Mimi and Steve, we will be back
We rented Morning Star Farms barn, cabin and guest rooms with a large group for my husband's 40th birthday celebration and it was one of the best trips we have ever had. What a magical and beautiful place! Everyone at the celebration said they felt rejuvenated and reconnected after our 3 night, four day stay because of the beauty that surrounded us.
We also had the final dinner catered, which was farm to table deliciousness. Salmon, roasted vegetables and a salad that was all so fresh, our heads were spinning with delight!
Mimi and Steve are such kind and open people that after the weekend was over we felt like we had made life long friends. If I could give the experience ten stars, I would.
Four generations of my family vacationed for a week a Morning Star Farms on Orcas Island. The family immediately fell in love with the farm and the owners.
Each age group, from 4 to 74, found something to love on this farm. We played in the pond, explored the paths, played with the animals, sat in the hot tub, and enjoyed the sauna.
We found the owners to be very special people and bonds of friendship were formed. They really took care of our needs and desires.
We occupied the main house, barn and the cottage and found each place charming and an adventure in itself. Each place was a welcoming gathering place for our group.
We did tour the Island, went fishing, whale watching, kayaking, shopping, walking the beaches and some even went on the zip line. Every experience was awesome.
The farm has become a familiar, welcoming place, that we will feel comfortable visiting again.
My extended family and I (15 people and 1 dog) had the most WONDERFUL time on this truly special farm. We stayed for 3 nights, coming in from Seattle, California, New York, and Rhode Island, and were welcomed with open arms. The host family and staff were just amazing. They made us feel so welcome and at home. They accommodated all of our quirky wishes, including a 5 star meal made with delicious produce and herbs from the farm. The kids and grown-ups were in heaven with swimming and rowing in the swimming pond, hiking, exploring, playing with the animals, and just relaxing. The barn on the property is a perfect place to pack in a group, with sleeping quarters up in the hayloft and a big kitchen below. The garden cottage and rooms attached to the main house are beautifully appointed and comfortable, and the hot tub feels so good after a busy day or when you first wake-up! This place was a dream come true for our family. Thank you SO much!!
This was a perfect place for our family reunion. We started our trip planning process by wanting to camp somewhere on Orcas Island. After many attempts of trying to find sites together, not near the restroom and with enough space for all of us to not be on top of each other (or to hear our neighbors) we decided to expand our search. We didn't want to (or were able to afford to) spend a lot of money for a big huge house where we could all stay. Morning Star Farm was the PERFECT solution. Those who wanted to camp were able and those who wanted a bed, had one. It's "Glamping" in its truest sense with its huge kitchen equipped with everything you'd ever need and tons of counter and fridge space for a weeks full of food! We originally rented the goat shed and the barn but once we saw the barn, we realized that this would be all the space we would need. Everyone had "their spot" for the week. There are 11 of us and we were all very comfortable. The wall tent out back is really quaint and ultimately had to give it up towards the end of our stay to my brother and his wife b/c they were so tired of hearing "how well we slept!" The kids LOVED sleeping in the hay loft and grandma and grandpa were perfectly comfortable sleeping on the main level. Even our "non-camper" was happy b/c she had a shower, a toilet (even tho you have to walk to it) and no one else around to worry about. This is a perfect place for kids.....so much exploring and swimming and fishing and basketball, etc. We could have stayed at this house the whole time and not been bored. The family is hardworking, loving, kind and caring. I would recommend this place to anyone who is truly looking for a unique "camping" experience! BTW, the goat shed room and other guest rooms are FAR from camping. They are clean, quiet and cozy!
Participate in farm activities if you choose ! Help with the harvest; collect the eggs, pick your organic berries for breakfast , salad greens or other fresh organic veggies for a uniquely fresh dinner ! Swim in the pond! Once off the farm take in the heart of the islands, hike the abundant beauty of the parks, kayak the pristine waters, enjoy our bustling farmers market complete with the island crafts and wonderful island art...or for a quieter day simply grab your book, your journal, your sketch pad and settle into the hammock or beside the wood stove.
