Casa Elena is an authentic adobe house built in 1989 and is located on five glorious, private acres with an unobstructed view of Taos Mountain. It features beautiful viga and latilla ceilings, adobe finished walls, flagstone floors, an enchanting loft accessed by a redwood spiral staircase, a Kiva fireplace and full bathroom.
Casa Elena is VERY clean. All linens, including the bedspreads are laundered between parties.
The downstairs bedroom, which has an excellent view of Taos Mountain, features a comfy queen size bed with flannel sheets during the winter, plenty of pillows and a dual controlled mattress warmer. Lie in bed at night at look at the lovely ceiling or local art on the walls or read in peace and quiet while in bed or in our comfy chair.
Upstairs in the loft is a king size bed, also fitted with flannel sheets in the winter. There is also a lovely, brown corduroy daybed that looks down from the loft into the living room. Enjoy a great view of Taos Mountain from a wonderful octagonal window. You will feel very at ease and relaxed in this lovely room.
The living room has a very cozy brand new couch and love seat with of course, a great view of Taos Mountain. The couch is also a queen size sleeper sofa. Drift off to sleep with flickering lights on the adobe walls and crackling sounds from the fire in the fireplace or warm your toes after a great day of skiing. This cozy environs will whisk away your troubles and leave you relaxed and ready to explore this amazing locale another day.
The kitchen has everything you need to make margaritas, cook a turkey, serve fondue or just have some cheese and wine. It is complete with a stove, oven, dishwasher, refrigerator (crushed or non-crushed ice), microwave, coffee maker, crock pot, fondue pot, paella pan, Nambe serving dishes, turkey platter, wine and champagne glasses...you name it and if it's not there we'll do our best to get it for you.
Enjoy the decor, mostly decorated with local art. Casa Elena currently features the excellent art work (paintings and sculpture) of Denny Wood. His work is for sale and he would be happy to meet with you if you have questions or a special request.
The firewood is provided. Split, stacked right outside your front door and ready to burn!
The bathroom is delightful. It features a deep, claw-foot bathtub, glass cut pineapple lights over the sink, hundred year-old barn wood pedestals and a blue window. Why a blue window you ask? Taos tradition states that if you have at least one window in your house painted blue, it will keep the evil spirits away. The only spirits that will visit you in this room however, is maybe a glass of wine or a salty margarita, while you soak in the tub.
The back yard is fenced with a lovely latilla and beam style fence. In the spring and summer it is alive with beautiful flowers and is a lovely place for a BBQ. There is a large cottonwood tree for shade where you can sit quietly and read a book or take a well-deserved nap.
The front of the house has that stunning view clear up to the mountain and open land to either side. There are cedar, pine and cottonwood trees, sagebrush and sunflowers. Magpies are regular visitors and spring through fall brings the Robins. Watch the skies for hawks which are regulars and the occasional Bald Eagle (there's been one here for about 6 months now). Currently, there are two desert cottontails living in the barn to the west and they often play within view. Also to the west is an antique hay lift, possibly close to 100 years old. As far as we know, it is the only one left in Northern New Mexico. The view from this front porch has offered some of the most exciting and awe inspiring sunsets on Taos Mountain we have ever seen, not to mention dramatic summer thunder and lightning storms and pristine winter snow scenes. The view is NEVER boring!
Oh, I guess we should mention that there is a washer and dryer too, because even on vacation, you may still have to do laundry!
