GREAT AUSTIN GETAWAY

  • 5 of 5
Virginia is so friendly and made us feel welcome. The house is very secluded. Beware the drive way, it is narrow and needed to be trimmed a bit. The house is very cooly decorated with antiques down to the vintage Vanity Fair magazine and Rolling Stone with Ray Charles, as a young man, on the cover. There was room for everyone. We all loved the pool also. I would highly recommend this location and hope we can book it our next stay in Austin.

THIS PROPERTY COMPLETELY EXCEEDED OUR EXPECTATIONS

  • 5 of 5
We rented this property instead of staying at a hotel for our son's graduation from UT. It has a comfortable 4 bedrooms and our entire family got to stay together. With the pool, it was like our own private resort. Viriginia was more than gracious and we could not have picked a better place to celebrate. UT was very close and we were able to go back and forth easily to all the events. I would recommend this property to relatives and friends!

Owner's Response: It was a pleasure and joy to host the UT graduation celebration for 2014 in our home!!! What a fantastic moment to see all the UT graduates in our old Austin home with the 1940s gravel driveway from our family home of Dr. Willis Pratt, UT Professor of English for 40 years, who would love to have been a springboard for all the UT graduates we hosted this 2014!!! Thank you for enjoying the privacy and feeling that you had your own private resort. We hope to host you and all future graduates again through the years!!!

LOVED THE TRANQUILITY, ARCHITECTURE, HISTORY & LOC

Loved the tranquility, architecture, history & loc
  • 4 of 5
My mother, brother, and sisters, that flew in from Calif. for my Daughters Graduation (MBA), cannot stop raving about this property. The architecture and history of the house is the only thing that surpassed the seclusion and tranquility. Of course you have to keep in mind that it is a 1940s house so some areas need a little tlc but even that does not take away from the tranquility. Everything is a close quick drive because you are located centrally of anywhere you would like to go.
The owner was always ready, and a stones throw away, in case we needed anything. She always had a smile and suggestions to make are stay more comfortable. Thank you Virginia for letting my family and I use your house for are celebration. We wished we could have stayed longer but life calls.
I will try and stay here again if I have another get together in Austin.
Again, Thank You.

FABULOUS LOCATION IN CENTRAL AUSTIN

  • 4 of 5
This is a phenomenal location and Virginia is an attentive owner. She provided a number of thoughtful details (water in the fridge, flowers, lots of towels, etc.). The logistics went smoothly and Virginia was very organized in helping us get situated in Austin - we'd lived in the area previously so the big thing for us was having a well-located base to do things in the city as well as visit old friends in Westlake Hills, Steiner Ranch and so forth. This location really delivered.
Things I'd wish I'd known prior to choosing the property: 1) This property falls in the category of lived in home v. investment property, so it has a feel of being in someone's home v. a vacation spot - not a big deal (and very inconsistent in Homeaway descriptions), but it took me some time to convince my kids we hadn't evicted some kids their age from their home (there's a bunch of kid art on the walls) and 2) The house shares a drive w/ another property, making parking a bit complex (beyond a single car, which was fine). We'd actually planned to entertain (per the property description and our existing network of Austin-based friends), but actually called an audible b/c of the challenge around parking and just visited our friends' at their homes.
I'd recommend the location and Virginia for sure, but would have valued the other travelers who reviewed the property calling out the couple points mentioned.

Owner's Response: Dear Scott,

Thank you for choosing to stay here and it was a pleasure hosting you and your family. Thank you for being such lovely guests and for leaving the house so sparkling clean. I appreciate your thoughtfulness and I could hardly believe that your whole family stayed here when I walked in to clean and didn't need to do much at all! Thank you so much for being such independent, quiet and respectful guests as well as leaving such a positive review.

I am so sorry for not being available to show you and your family around when you arrived as that is so much fun for me to meet and greet my guests. I am sorry that I didn't show you the options in our parking situation that allow up to 7 cars if carefully organized and turned around facing out. I also give up my carport space for guests having get togethers and I am happy to do so. I know it seems to be a tight squeeze, and it is, but I didn't get to show you the turnaround and facing out places that fit more than it seems possible. The carport by the bedroom, the space next to it, the hillside where you parked, the 2 spaces in front of the dining room and the 2 spaces by the shed seems impossible at first sight, but it has been done. Of course we need a parking patrol to organize it (sorry I wasn't there for that!) I wish I had know that you were planning on enter had And I didn't know that you were planning on entertaining, as Camp Mabry across the street allows people to park all along the street for parties and occasions as you expressed you desired. My daughter drew a parking diagram that shows this and I didn't get a chance to show you and explain this and I'm so sorry. I hope you will give us another chance on this one.

On a good note, it was so nice to hear all that you did enjoy, the amenities, the relaxed lived in home atmosphere and I hope that you will consider staying here for your next vacation rental in Austin.

I hope that you received your children's swim suits and we look forward to hosting you again!

All the Best to you All,

Virginia

AND WE THOUGHT AUSTIN COULDN'T GET ANY BETTER!

And we thought Austin couldn't get any better!
  • 5 of 5
Wow! What a fabulous house and property. We (two adults, and two teen boys) stayed at the property for spring break/college visit and could not have been happier. The house is spacious, comfortable, and private. The beds are great. The house is absolutely stocked with all dishes, pots, glasses etc . . . Sometimes rentals are either so "done" that we're constantly worried about mess/damage, or so shabby that we miss the hotel experience. This was PERFECT. In fact, we loved the experience so much that we're coming back for parents weekend and have invited friends from Chicago and New York to join us for the fabulous Austin experience. Oh yeah, another bonus of the house is the location. Tarrytown is a great neighborhood with close to grocery/pharmacy shopping. And it seemed like it was only a six minute drive to anywhere we wanted to go. Thanks again Virginia!
