Photos and Description of the Hendersonville vacation bungalow rental
2 bedrooms Bunk Beds in game room , 1 full bathroom, sleeps 4 to 6

Ebsen Summer Home was originally built by Buddy Ebsen's parents Christian L Ebsen and his mother Frances. The deed has been secured from the local courthouse and has been framed for the walls at the cottage. They came down from Illinois and moved to Florida then came in Oct of 1946 bought this land in the Naples area of Hendersonville, North Carolina for their summer home to be built and live there during their summers when Buddy was a young lad.

In later years Buddy Ebsen (AKA as Jed Clampett on Beverly Hillbillies) would come from Hollywood to relax and stay here at this cottage. I

So come and enjoy the Ebsen Summer Home built in 1940's and updated with all the modern conveniences so you can enjoy the Yester years and still have the comforts of today.

The Carolina Granite Fireplace that stands so majestic in the living room with 10 ft ceilings ,hardwood floors and large living room for lots of relaxing. and here you can see the Blue Ridge mountains from the windows.

The Kitchen has large open windows to allow the morning sun to kiss the windows sills and as you make some hot tea or cup of coffee and just outside that kitchen door is waiting a deck with a welcoming chair and table to enjoy the morning as the dew begins to lift and dry from the boards and the azaleas and blooming cherry tree and old apple tree lifts their heads to the sun you enjoy the quiet and peace of the back veranda with no worries and the planning of your excursions for the day. Then to remember that at the end of the day and tired you can still return to this deck and enjoy the evening and night comfortably because the mountains nights are quiet cool even in the summer months that is like a refreshing drink of water to cool the insides as well as the outside from the heat of the day.

Then retire to the bedrooms covered with Egyptian sheets so silky that when you sleep and you arise in the morning rested and ready for the next day excursions..

There are alot of places to see and enjoy while your stay at the 'Ebsen Summer Home'

This house has also a Front Covered porch that you can view the Blue Ridge Mountain rocking chair with outdoor furniture open windows to enjoy the outside seeing the trees and beautiful azaleas that adorn this 1940 Bungalow house. Short distance Asheville, Brevard, Hendersonville, Tuxedo, Lake Summit and Lake Lure. Each place has it unique shops to purchase things that are made locally for tokens to make your stay enjoyable and life time of memories to cherish.

About Jeanette Glenn

I am a grandmother of 3 and a mother of 2. I was born and raised here in Hendersonville North Carolina. I went to Mills River School and graduated from West Henderson High over on Haywood Rd.

I currently live in Laurel Park North Carolina.

Jeanette Glenn purchased this bungalow in 1999
Why Jeanette Glenn chose Hendersonville

In 1999 I bought this first piece of property and for many years it was a monthly rental but the history behind the scenes that where told to me about Buddy Ebsen and his family actually bought this property many years ago and built a home and a cottage and this was there summer home. AKA Jed Clampett and I thought was a beautiful way to display yester years and let other people enjoy it.

What makes this bungalow unique

I was so impressed of course with the property because of the views from the front porch and all its history.

So as Jed would put it 'Come and Sit a Spell'

I recommend you do this very thing. Relax, smell the mountain air, and if you like walk the grounds it is just like it was back in the early 1940.

Home away from home.

I've never rented a home like this online before, so I was a bit nervous about what would be waiting for us upon our arrival. We were not disappointed! My wife, our three kids, and I stayed here for a long weekend to see some of the sights around the area. The location is perfect. It is convenient to restaurants, grocery stores, attractions, and access to the interstate. The house is very clean, well maintained, and has everything you need for your stay.

When you arrive the first thing that strikes you is how welcoming the house feels. We felt like we had arrived at our second home. We were lucky to have chilly mornings, which allowed us to take advantage of the fireplace. On our first full day in the area we almost did not want to leave the house since it was so cozy and relaxing! We loved the pretty view of the back yard from the kitchen window.

The only downside for some people might be how close it is to the interstate highway. The interstate is visible from the front porch, though nobody would see you back given how the house is set back on a hill. Being so close, you do get a bit of traffic noise. The noise did not bother us. In fact, the hum from the highway was kind of soothing. In no way would this keep us from staying again. It’s just something to keep in mind if what you are looking for is a super quiet cabin in the woods experience.

Our three kids are ages 7(twins) and 10. There was plenty of room for all 5 of us. They enjoyed playing in the big back yard area. I would not recommend the home for people with crawling babies or toddlers. You would have to keep your eyes on them at all times given that there are many things around the home for them to get in to.

Wi-fi access was not bad. The strength of the signal varied throughout the house. It worked great for checking email and web browsing, though not quite strong enough for me to maintain consistent connection for remoting in to my work PC.

In summary, we loved this place! It was a great place to stay and great for our budget. As we were leaving, we talked about how we were going to miss our little house on the hill. We hope we'll get a chance to stay there again one day.
Owner's Response: The Ebsen is a great little cottage to enjoy. I have updated the Wi-fi connection to have a stronger reception. Sometimes here in the North Carolina mountains signal is not as good as it should be and also depends on how updated the computers are as well.

House is Kid friendly and baby friendly if a family comes with children and yes they have, I tell them to bring a play pen with them if the have babies.

The house is atop this little mountain that is surrounded by large oak trees and lots of hardwood when the leaves are on that buffers in the late spring and all summer thru the fall but if you stayed at a motel you would be beside a interstate as well and not have the yard and trees and beautiful mountain views that you get from this adorable home on the mountain top that is so convenient to everything and have a quick commute to your destination as this property offers.
All my guest I welcome your thoughts and constructive criticism as that I learn from it and to make this a more enjoyable place to stay. Thank you and look forward to serving other wonderful guest.

This was a great experience. The home was quiet, clean, comfortable, and fully stocked. It portrays a bit of theatrical history since it was home to Buddy Epson. It's close to the highway and about a ten minute drive to Ashville. We enjoyed our stay at the Epson Home and would definitely recommend this rental.
Owner's Response: The Ebsen is a great cottage to remember yester years! The home is nestled a top this beautiful mountain with hardwood and pines around it and you are able to see the Smoky mountains just from the front porch. So come and enjoy and walk where a movie star has lived here in these beautiful North Carolina mountains.
All my guest love this quaint cottage. You will too!

My husband and I had a long drive and did not arrive until 2 am...even though we were exhausted when we walked in the door, we had to pause and take in the charm of this summer home...the wood paneling, wood floors, and stone fireplace were exactly what we were looking for in a mountain get-a-way. Not to mention, the owner had interior and exterior lights on so we did not have to walk in to a dark house, which we felt was especially thoughtful. During our stay, we enjoyed eating our breakfast on the large, enclosed front porch and just staring at the mountains. Having a full kitchen, a deck with a grill, and a large dining room made it easy to have a few friends over to cook dinner and we did not have to go out to eat every night. During our stay we frequented the restaurants and antique stores on Main Street in downtown Hendersonville (we loved Mezzaluna, the Black Rose, and McFarland's Bakery), as well as downtown Asheville and found both to be convenient...this summer home is far enough away so you feel secluded, but not so far that you are unable to enjoy all the amenities the area has to offer. We were concerned about the house only having one bathroom, but the bathroom is large and easily accommodated the four adults we had in the house. There is also a very nice backyard and the whole time we were there, we could picture it being a great place for the kids to run around and play. This summer home is lovingly maintained and very clean, which was extremely important to us. We loved the personality, rustic charm, and history of this precious summer home over a bland hotel room and we are already booked for our next visit!

Pleasant surprise - the Ebsen

The property is situated midway between downtown Asheville and downtown Hendersonville, which we found to be extremely convenient. The cabin was located where it was secluded enough, yet not too far off the main road. It was cozy, charming and comfortable. The sound of the tree frogs at night was really cool. The property was clean and well maintained. What an absolute pleasure it was to work with the owner! She was very helpful with suggestions about things to do in the area. We accidentally locked our keys in the cabin, and the owner was there within 15 minutes to bring us another key, and she was not even upset. The Ebsen was exactly what we were looking for, and I would recommend this property. However, I do not believe it would comfortably sleep six people since there are two bedrooms, with one bed in each room. If we are in the area again, we hope to have the opportunity to stay at Ebsen again.
