There are bike rental stations along the street where you can rent bikes by the 1/2hr ( and now there is even an electric car rental station ( on the corner of our street! The bus line #38 stops near the apartment (stop # Cite - Palais de la Justice) and the train station St-Michel Notre Dame - RER B Train Line (direct to Charles de Gaulle aiport or to Orly Airport with a transfer) and the subway station Cité - Line 4 (fuschia) are just steps away. We know it can be daunting to travel to a foreign country, especially with language barriers and cultural differences. We are here for you whenever you need us, but you can be completely independent, living like a local Parisian! We can give you advice on where to eat, how to get around, which 'tourist traps' to avoid, and what not to miss. We want your vacation to go as smoothly as possible 'sans souci' (without stress!).

We cannot wait to meet you, we enjoy getting to know all of our guests from around the world and sharing all we know and love about this wonderful city. We are an almost-retired couple with two grown sons, one married to an American girl, so you could call us an International family! We are native French speakers who also speak English and German fluently thanks to living and traveling abroad. Among us we also speak Spanish and Portuguese, so no matter where you're from your needs will be understood.

We love to travel too, so we have spared no expense to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible and certainly one you will cherish and even repeat in the future! Welcome to PARIS.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is the Apartment in a safe area?

Yes. It's in the heart of Paris where it is always lively. The streets are well-lit at night, there is a code to enter into the building, and of course we're always near by if you're ever in need!

2. Where is the nearest grocery store?

There is a large supermarket on Rue de Rivoli not far from the apartment, however; the area around the Marais and the Ile St. Louis are known for their small specialty stores where you can find the best bread, cheese, wine and meat in Paris.

3. Can I make calls from the Apartment? How much are they?

There is a phone in the apartment, and you can call to the US for FREE with our carrier!

Some other destinations are free as well, please e-mail us with a list of countries you would like to call, and we'll let you know how little our carrier will charge.

You can also buy a pre-paid MobiCarte, which is a SIM card you can buy at any Tabac, to use with your own cellphone here.

4. How do I get there from the airport? How much is it?

-- TAXI : 35-45 Euros

-- Direct Train (RER B) from Charles de Gaulle Airport and Orly Airport to Gare du Nord, Chatelet or St. Michel metro stations : less than 9 euros/per person + a short walk to the apartment

5. How do I get around?

There is a vast metro/bus/train system in Paris that is easy to navigate, although the best mode of transport when you stay in the center of all the activity is by foot!

There is also a hop-on/hop-off sightseeing bus, as well as a hop on/hop off sightseeing boat! The lastest marvel is the new bike rental system! You can find one on almost any street corner - just rent it for however long you wish with your credit card (at what looks like an ATM) and off you go! (You can even return it to a different location, too).

6. How much would it be to stay in such a great location at a Hotel instead?

In fact there are no hotels directly on the Seine River on Ile de la Cite, that is what makes our apartment so special!

And we have all the amenities of a hotel - plus so much more!

We know you will enjoy your stay in our apartment, so much so that it will be difficult to leave!

About The Owner

We're a friendly French, English, German & Spanish-speaking family who are happy to welcome all nationalities with open arms... We know all the best places in Paris and we will be here to help make your stay care-free and wonderful!

The Owner purchased this apartment in 2011

Why The Owner chose 4th Arrondissement Pompidou Le Marais

Here are 4 good reasons why renting our apartment will make your vacation more memorable :

1. Location Location Location

Fortunately, we are situated in the most centric and important part of the city, on an island on the Seine river. The island is called Ile de la Cite and it's the site of the original settlement of the Parisii tribe and the birthplace of Paris as we know it!

2. Unbeatable Comfort you won't find in any hotel

We are avid travelers too and we know that a bad night's sleep on a really hard, lumpy mattress with a limp pillow can really ruin your trip. We've spared no expense in order for you to have the most satisfying night's sleep!

3. Luxurious furnishings and modern amenities

Apart from the aforementioned comfortable bed, there are also big comfy chairs to recline in, plenty of closet space and suitcase storage, a large marble shower with vintage-looking chrome fixtures and a beautiful ceramic pedestal sink and suspended toilet.

4. You have total freedom (but we're there for you too)

It's nice to get a warm welcome after a long-haul flight, most hotel receptionists in Paris are rude. There's no real customer service because seeing that Paris is the most visited place in the World (almost 8mil in 2011), they know they'll always be full. We will always welcome you with a smile as we are genuinely pleased for you to be our guests!

What makes this apartment unique

You will fall in love with the BREATHTAKING VIEWS on the Seine River and Paris Monuments!

The location is in the heart of Paris, in the historic city center.

The apartment is in mint condition for being more than 400 years old! We tried our best to preserve the original charm by uncovering the wood beams in the ceiling that we discovered are signed and dated, a real rarity.

The apartment is just magical, you feel like you stepped back in time.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We spent 7 nights in this wonderful apartment. The location is central, very quiet, and you can easily reach by foot all Paris major sights. The apartment offers all the comfort you can think of and is perfect for relaxing. The View on the Seine river from the windows is just breathtaking, and you may see boats and the living scene of the city, especially at night. Above all, we would like to point out the kindness of Marie-Christine & Marc and the easy communication per email with them! They were in every way very attentive to our comfort and were perfect hosts. We cannot imagine a better place for a stay in Paris!!!

Parisian Paradise

  • 5 of 5

We were among the luckiest of visitors to Paris, renting Marie Christine and Marc's apartment for a week. It is as the reviews say -- everything you need in a small but charming space. We had high expectations after reading the reviews, and we were not disappointed. The owners have exquisite taste, with furnishings of high quality, from the chairs and Murphy bed, to the kitchenware and linens. The view of the Seine and the Hotel de Ville is as romantic as one dreams Paris could be. Morning to midnight the ever-shifting light and activity is delightful enjoyed from the comfort of the chairs, with croissant and coffee or glass of wine in hand.

The bathroom shower was lovely, the kitchen small but well-appointed. We particularly liked that the apartment had an elevator. Coming back to the apartment after a morning or a day of walking all over Paris, in museums and through parks, etc, we appreciated the ease of coming "home".

The memories of being in this apartment are so beautiful, it is difficult to write a review that sounds believable. But, like others before us, we were enchanted by the experience of staying here. Marc and Marie Christine were warm and responsive to all our needs. Marc's welcome to the apartment was among the most enjoyable encounters we experienced during our three month journey in France. Thank you both for a lovely home away from home in Paris. We would definitely stay here again if we are lucky enough to return.

A Paris dream come true

  • 5 of 5

This beautiful little apartment is indeed a gem. It is small but has everything you need (kitchen, coffee, guidebooks, storage), and nothing you don't (stress). The Murphy bed and beamed ceiling contributes to its charm and the bathroom is first rate. It is perfectly situated on Iles de la Cite overlooking the Seine and, despite having Paris at your feet, there were moments when we thought "Why don't we just sit here all day and watch the boats go by?" But then we would have missed the bakery around the corner and all of the other wonderful places within walking or easy public transport distance. I keep a photo of the tableau of the chairs, table, painting and orchid on my phone so I can pull it up whenever I need a lift. Marie-Christine and Marc are indeed the perfect hosts, and speak perfect English to my very imperfect French. We hope to be able to arrange all of our future trips to Paris around availability of this remarkable, peaceful and romantic place.

Super lovely and super comfortable

  • 5 of 5

With such a lively view of the river traffic and the warmth of the little fireplace, it was easy to snuggle up inside and just watch Paris go by! This place is wonderfully comfortable, with all the little details carefully thought out. Its central location made it easy to get out to the places we wanted to see, especially with the Bateau Bus stop just across the river. Marie-Christine and Marc were perfect hosts. Like others, we don't want to say too much or we'll never have a chance to stay again!

The perfect little home base... with a view!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at Marie-Christine and Marc’s lovely apartment for one week in November 2014. They were so friendly and warm, truly just a pleasure to be around. The apartment was thoughtfully appointed and the hosts were able to provide us with some great seasonal recommendations (like the Christmas Market on the Champs de Elysees!).

We had such an amazing experience, and some of our best times were spent in the apartment, sitting in front of the cozy fireplace in the cushy leather chairs, drinking a glass of French wine and looking at the activity on the Seine. When choosing our lodging for vacations, we always opt for places that are centrally located and with pleasant views. It was just ideal to be able to pop back into the flat for a rest, and some wine and cheese, in the middle of our busy day.

The apartment is in really close proximity to 3 metro/RER stops that we used throughout the trip. Ideally located close to nightlife in both the 6th and the 4th (2 of my favorites!), and SO easy to find when you get turned around in a big city like Paris (you just always have to either get back to the river, or Notre Dame!). We adored the wine shop around the corner, and made jaunts to Eric Kayser a morning tradition. I’m still daydreaming about the Quiche Lorraine and the lemon turnovers (basically a croissant with a lemon bar inside!). We also took cooking classes at both La Cuisine Paris (5 minutes from the apartment) and Cookin’ with Class, and would warmly recommend both.

And nothing really compares to the spectacular views of Hotel de Ville.. Back at home, we’ve framed a photo of the view from ‘our’ window, and enjoy seeing the reminder of our trip during our return to everyday (also... after some research.. we’re fairly sure that the fictional Javert from Les Mis jumped to his death from pretty much directly in front of the apartment - which is pretty cool). Our solution to a longer shower routine and a smaller hot water heater.. was to turn off the water while we lathered/shaved, and turn it back on to rinse - it worked great! We have recommended the apartment to all of our friends, and will definitely stay there again on our next trip to Paris. Thanks again, Marie-Christine and Marc!! And FYI.. adults ARE allowed to ride the carousels =)

We hope you will get out and see as much as you can of the most magical place in the World! Our luxury apartment is situated on the Seine River in the heart of historic Paris known as the Ile de la Cite (trans. 'island in the city'), the perfect location to see the best landmarks, monuments and quarters surrounding the island on all sides. The island is the original birthplace of Paris and therefore the epicenter of the capital and the starting point for visiting the other historic quarters on the Right and Left banks of the Seine River (the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th districts of Paris). The Point Zero (marks the spot from which all distances are measured in France) can be found in front of the famous Notre Dame Cathedral, the Gothic paragon whose first stone was laid in 1163 during the Middle Ages. Under your feet lies the remains from first settlers in Paris, from the Gallo-Romans to the the Parisii Tribe (from which Paris gets its name) which can be seen by visiting the Archeological Crypt below Notre Dame. A pleasant stroll across Pont St-Louis bridge from Ile de la Cite will take you to a smaller, quaint island Ile St. Louis which has a distinct 17th c. architectural character, home to tiny specialized shops and Bertillon, the famous ice cream maker. Back at point zero and crossing the northernmost bridge from the island, The 1st quarter is where you will find the gilded Opera, the majestic Louvre, the jewelry shops around Place Vendome and luxury boutiques like Dior, Chanel, Hermes, etc. Further afield you will see the awe-inspiring Eiffel Tower which is best viewed from a dinner-cruise along the Seine river. Another day you can set off to visit the 2nd quarter, where you will find the lively working-class and commercial center of Paris with the Bourse (trans. 'Stock Exchange'), many pedestrian walking streets with shops, bars, cafes and a contrasting, sometimes gritty atmosphere. The 3rd quarter is the more tranquil part of the medieval le Marais district where you will find the Picasso museum, and other hidden gems such as the Marche Enfants Rouges, a cute open-air food market. Back to point zero, the island where the apartment is situated is officially part of the 4th quarter.

From the windows of the apartment you can see the Hotel de Ville, a beautiful Renaissane palace housing the city hall. To get there, cross the Pont d'Arcole bridge onto the Right Bank where you will also find the famous Pompidou modern art museum and the livelier part of the Marais district with the best boutiques and places to eat/drink. Also housing the old Jewish quarter, the gay district and the most expensive place to live in Paris by square meter: the beautiful Place de Vosges square. The 5th quarter can be reached crossing le Petit Pont bridge from the Island onto the Left Bank where you will find the intellectual, artistic and philosophical center of Paris. First you will come across the animated Latin Quarter, crawling with bars, bookstores and university students from La Sorbonne. Further on there is the Romanesque Pantheon and charming gardens of Jardin des Plantes and a quaint zoo. Further north in the affluent St. Germain district you can find art galleries, luxury shops and swanky bars/cafes such as the illustrious Cafe de Flore or Le Deux Magots (literally means 'nest eggs'). Home to the famous Luxembourg gardens, you can put your feet up and relax while you write in your journal about all the amazing and enriching things you've done and seen!
