This place was so great! We picked it due to the location but were so satisfied with the whole experience. Beds were comfy. Living space was just the right size and the backyard is a nice feature.
Would love to stay here again next year!

SXSW in the Violet Cottage

We stayed in the little purple house for SXSW 2013 and had a great time. The house was clean, property large (w/horseshoes and fire pit) and amenities appreciated. (a washer dryer combo comes in handy for an 10 day stay) The location was awesome, 2 doors off of South Congress (walking to all sorts of food and shopping) about 1.5 miles from the "Bat Bridge" and a $7 cab ride to East 6th St.
Leslie was a great landlord for our stay, providing a roll-away, 2 air matresses and a 6 pack of local beer. We had a rotating crew of 3-5 people in the 2 bedroom house none of which were couples. While i wouldn't say this is my ideal living situation, we were all comfortable and remain freinds.

I look forward to next years trip and will most likely hit Leslie up oce again.

cozy house nearby all the action

This is a fantastic house to stay in, as it provides all the comforts of home (coffee, kitchen, space, backyard, etc) while still keeping you close to South Congress, which is full of restaurants, food trucks, music venues, etc.

I stayed here with my boyfriend and another couple, and we could not have been happier. The house is very "Austin" - charming, cozy and inviting. We took advantage of the backyard fire pit and the kitchen allowed us to have casual breakfasts before we started our day. The best part of the house is that we walked or biked everywhere in the city. (Although, we honestly could have probably stayed along South Congress the whole time.)

This house is a great alternative to hotels, especially if you are traveling with a big group. It's perfect for 2 couples or for a girls' getaway. Leslie is great to work with too. Highly recommended!

If you're looking for things to do in Austin, my group loved:
-Cathedral of Junk
-Broken Spoke
-Jo's Coffee
-Guero's for outdoor music and drinks
-Torchy's Tacos
-Magnolia Cafe
-Amy's Ice Cream
-Hopdoddy

The Violet Cottage is in a prime location to explore the city and is a placid escape from the hustle and bustle just a block over on South Congress. The home is clean and perfectly maintained with thoughtful touches that make me wish it was my own. The owner is polite and accommodating which made the trip planning process a joy. We loved the home, inside and out, and would stay there for every visit in Austin, Texas.

This was a wonderful, quiet location for our Christmas in Austin. It slept our family of four adults comfortably. The Kerig provided us with coffee every morning including a hefty coffee supply for our five day stay. The two beds were extremely comfortable with cozy blankets and comforters. We did not do any cooking but the kitchen appeared to be well stocked with all the necessary supplies. The house was very clean and the photos on VRBO as well as the list of ameneties reflected the property accurately. Leslie provided literature about places to explore including her favorite recommendations for dining, musical entertainment and other places of interest. The location allowed us to explore the trendy and retro SoCo area. We took lengthy walks to downtown and took the bus in which the bus stop was about a block away. The Alamo Draft house was a unique way to watch a movie while dining- burgers, pizza and shakes were excellent. Our barbeque interests took us to Stubb's and Lambert's. Lambert's was our favorite. We hiked to Franklin's but the wait was unbelievable;you need to get there right when it opens. Drinks at Bar Congress were a treat; Hey Cupcake food truck satisfied our evening sweet tooths; Jo's coffee- nice spot to sit and enjoy the hussle and bussle of SoCo; ,6th street-lots of activity and busy;Continental Club- great for music; lots of unique shops up and down South Congress; the capital building beautiful to see;we had Christmas dinner at Threadgill's because it was the only place open that we could find other than hotel dining. It had good southern cooking but woud not recommend it as a destination. The weather ranged from mid 60s to high 40s during the day. It became quite cold at night. Even though there was adequate heating in the house, the front living room became cold. It is an older house with a lot of charm and possibly not as well insulated. This was the only discomfort of our stay. Leslie was great to deal with and very helpful before we arrived. I would highly recommend the "violet cottage."
