Well stocked townhouse

  • 5 of 5

This townhouse is nicely decorated and well stocked. So many extras that you might not expect such as Qtips and most everything you could possibly need in the way of hygiene. The kitchen is so well equipped right down to catsup, mustard, syrup, and even mayo. Every herb and spice is there as is laundry detergent. But what we really wouldn't have expected and really needed were umbrellas!!

Washington DC long weekend

  • 4 of 5

The rental was very nice, updated and clean. Enjoyed using the Safeway card for discounts at the grocery store. Parking on the street was never an issue. The grocery store and Metro are about a 10 minute walk. The surrounding areas are a little sketchy at night but I didn't feel unsafe. We walked to the Gordon Biersch restaurant a couple times and enjoyed a nice meal and drinks. Overall we enjoyed our home away from home and would stay here again. Thanks!

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write a review. So many of my guests have left very nice notes at the property to express how pleased they were with the property, including how beautifully appointed it is and how clean everything is, and how convenient the location is for getting around DC and the surrounding areas. I tend to agree that some of the surrounding areas may be considered “sketchy.“ As with much of DC, the area has undergone and is continuing to undergo change. I am glad that you felt safe. We are fortunate that there is absolutely no reason for guests to go in the spots with the least change since they lead to nowhere but to someone’s home. The few spots that may be considered “sketchy” are neither between the property and the exactly 2⅟2 blocks to the two metro-train stops and the national-chain grocery. The neighbors include a nuclear physicist, social science researchers, several attorneys, an editor, educators, graduate students, and blue collar workers. I am pleased that you would stay again. Perhaps the wharf, which is walking distance will be finished which will have about 30 restaurants!

Comfortable,clean accommodation in convenient location

  • 4 of 5

Great communication with the owner who made it easy for us to arrive and get in without any problem at all. It snowed overnight the night we arrived which transformed the whole area into a magical winterland. Having the parking permit meant we could leave the car on the street. Navy yard metro is the closest metro and travel to the tourist sites was easy. On the way home we'd get off at waterfront and go into the Safeway on the way home. (Thanks for the suggestion of the safeway card, it made a huge savings difference:) We purchased metro tickets for each person and loaded them with $20 which meant you weren't always needing to top up for trips. The whole apartment was beautifully clean, plenty of linen and towels and the rooms were comfortable, the kitchen awesome and great washing machine and dryer. My son appreciated the comfort of the pull-out in the lounge area. The bathroom is beautifully appointed. Altogether a very comfortable apartment for a stay. Thank you

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review. I did worry that the snow may have ruined your visit, especially since it also turned quite cold. I hope you will come back in the summer, but then we would probably have one of our terrible heat waves. Thank you again for choosing my property. Helen

Wonderful apartment and very convenient!

  • 4 of 5

This apartment was the perfect place to stay while we visited DC. It was convenient to the metro and we always felt safe walking. We had our car and found there was always parking available when we needed it. The parking permit was a nice bonus! The apartment had everything we needed. One downside for us was the bathroom design. We are a family of 5 with 3 kids, 10 and under. The open shower design was not perfect for us as it was hard for our kids and it also made it impossible for more than 1 person to use the bathroom without sacrificing all privacy. This is not a criticism of the apartment, it was just as described, but rather a note for other families that may be considering the apartment. It would have been nice on mornings we were in a hurry to have multiple people using the bathroom. However, it would not stop me from renting the place again. I did find that on several nights we heard some loud noises from the upstairs neighbor late in the evening (after 11). Other than that, the apartment worked out great. It certainly made me realize that this is the way to go for future trips. No more hotels for us! We also made use of the washer and dryer! Thanks for a wonderful stay!

Owner's Response: Thank you for choosing my property and taking the time to provide a review. I must confess I am somewhat taken back by the bathroom comments as it was design to create an openness and brightness that show case the effort to preserve the exposed brick rather than for a dormitory multiple persons’ usage. Although the property is not my primary residence, I stayed there during your visit. The noise you heard after 11:00 was a bag that I accidentally dropped that included a can. While we installed sound proof subflooring, impact sounds still occur. I am sorry that this disturbed you, but I hope my guests realize that they are in a home and that the residents have a life and are human too. Although I could hear the children running, screaming, and jumping, I understood that they were kids, and that happens with some kids. I, as the regular residents upstairs, do not wear shoes in the house and we have checked to make sure that the TV is at a level that will not be heard downstairs at any time. However, they deserve a life also.

Clean,comfortable and convienent

  • 4 of 5

Had a great 5 day holiday in late August.

As other reviewers have mentioned, it's a great location in a transitional neighborhood.

Not a large amount of bars/ restaurants in close proximity, but everything you would want or need is easily accessible via metro. Owner provides great communication and provides guests with whatever they need for a comfortable stay.

The owners daughter was very helpful and I would highly recommend this property to anybody considering staying in the city.

Great place. great location

  • 5 of 5

Had a fantastic 4 day break - as other reviewers mention, the area is clearly in transition (upwards) but it felt safe and secure and is easily walkable to the City. The Metro is close by if you don't fancy the walk and a cab from the City only cost us $10. The apartment is well appointed and nicely laid out. Shame the baseball wasn't on when we were there but One Direction were on our last night so our 15 year old daughter was happy! Great communication before, during and after rental - thanks.
