Great stay in the heart of DC

My husband and I stayed a week with our 4 teen-aged children. The property was a good fit for our week in DC. It's not a large home, but that was communicated clearly to us before our arrival, and we found it very adequate. We had wanted a location close to the Metro and a grocery store - the home was within easy walking distance of both. Nearly every afternoon we would get off at the Waterfront stop, enter the Safeway across from the Metro escalator, and bring home food for the evening meal. The home was clean and well-stocked; we appreciated having a washer and dryer. When the wifi cut out, and we contacted the owner, it was fixed within minutes. Some reviews have commented on the part of town in which the property is located; it is not a "fancy" area, but we felt safe walking with our children (and we walked everywhere). Police and fire stations are close by. If we were to visit DC again, we definitely would consider contacting Helen. Thanks for providing a place for a super stay.

The physical property was as described. The amenities within the property were beyond with excellent toilitries, kitchen items, etc. Very clean comfortable, and homey. The owner was wonderful. She made sure we arrived safely and reconfirmed how to get in touch with her should we need anything during our visit. Loved the location. Within walking distance to the mall plus between two metro stops. By staying at this property we were able to truly feel a part of DC. A plus one does not receive by staying at a hotel.
Helen, thank you. Our trip was the best.

Clean, Well-Equipped, Easy Walk to Metro

Bless Helen.
When I explained at the time of renting that I was planning to make Thanksgiving dinner for my family in her property, she did not withdraw the agreement as I would have done, but assured me she'd provide a roasting pan.
Because we had come to Washington from London to celebrate Thanksgiving with our son who's in school over here, the stakes were high. This property met the challenge. While small, it was amenable and accommodating. The kitchen is uncommonly well-equipped, with among other things, a Cuisinart blender, a hand mixer, and a powerful microwave as well as plenty of counter space. There is only one bathroom, but because we wake up at staggered times in the morning, it wasn't a problem for the four of us.
It was cold during our stay, so we were grateful for the proximity to two metro stations. And while the Safeway is not the most seductive retail space in the city, it is friendly and well-stocked. A newcomer tip: walk along M street to the waterfront, where it becomes Maine, and follow it to the Fish Wharf, the nation's oldest continuous running fish market. The selection and quality are staggering. And because you're staying at Helen's, where you can cook, you're not stuck gaping like a tourist; can buy something to make for dinner.
Finally, it can be noisy. The walls are porous, and I could hear vacuum cleaners and and running taps in other units, sometimes quite early in the morning and/or late at night. But this would not stop me staying here again.

Owner's Response: Diane,
Thank you so much for taking the time to review my property. It is good to know that the kitchen met your needs and interests. I always worry a bit that guests may not have read the description and fail to realize that the rental is 850 square feet with two bed rooms and one full bath. On the one hand, at times I feel that I should not rent it to more than 4 people, but on the other, I think guests should be able to decide if the space is adequate for their needs and lifestyle.

We gutted and totally renovated the property which included extensive tuck pointing that took months to complete in order to prevent the walls from being porous while retaining the beauty of exposed brick. An incredible amount of mortar was used to make the brick very solid and it was done by an expert. The plumbing is all new and sound proof flooring is used on the second floor. With all of this, it still is not totally sound proof, but sound seems to be limited to impact noise and occasional water running.

I am glad that you enjoyed your stay, and thank you again for choosing my property. Helen

Perfect place to enjoy DC

Enjoyed staying there very much as we are big Nationals fans. Easy walk to the Ball Park, to the Metro Station, to shopping facilities. We even walked one night from the White House back to the flat with our kids. Although quite central it was quiet on a night. The flat was nice and clean. E-mail contact was quick and to the point. I would recommend this place to anybody. If we come back I would stay here again. Thank you !
Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on my property. As always, it is great to hear that you were not disappointed by choosing my place and would stay again if you come back again.
