The East Suite is the adjoining residence to the West Suite. These two suites combine to make the Highway House, a 1840s duplex with all the modern conveniences. We proud to offer this addition to the traveling public. The East Suite has the following:
2 bedrooms with queen beds,
1 hideaway bed that sleeps two adults comfortably,
1 full bathroom,
A cozy kitchen with a new refrigerator and stove, plus a dishwasher,
A gas fireplace to warm the bones on those chilly fall & winter nights,
Satellite TV, High Speed Wireless service,
Big windows to take in the scenes of the county.
The Highway House East Suite sleeps 6 adults.
Our family has been in Prince Edward County since 1977, originally from Toronto. My mother fell in love with the arrangement of trees along side Bass Lane, the look of the property and how it leads to the water. My grandmother bought the property from the Cleave family, which owned the property from 1920 to 1988. The house has been through 5 renovations since the house was built in 1840. I took over the operation of the house in 2010 after my younger brother passed away. suddenly due to a massive heart attack. Bradley loved the house and lovingly designed it with families and groups of people in mind.
John F. Moore purchased this house in 1988
Originally we rented the house for long term rentals. We saw that there was a need for quality accommodation at an affordable price. We originally had Westlake Marina from 1977 to 2010. The Highway House started operation in 2007. The East Suite became available in 2012, after a long term tenant moved out.
People describe the Highway House as refreshing and inspiring. We call our piece of heaven and we enjoy sharing the property with our guests.
I was pretty shocked on how wonderfully clean the house was. The owner told me of another guest who complained about smells in the house but we couldn't smell anything other than the smell of pine, from the trees outside! Everything was clean, well looked after and the price was right, in fact they could have charged more!
Thanks for the wonderful time!
on arrival no one to meet us. when visiting home address had moved. panick! a neighbor helped us contact the brother who let us in. shortly after John arrived & things were sorted out. we could use garden produce. there was a smell of dog in the house which remained during the stay.the open kitchen is well fitted out. the living room space is sufficient. bedrooms with bedding are ok. built-in cupboard of smaller bedroom was cluttered with stuff. in hallway upstairs washingmachine & dryer. did the job well. the hose of the dryer had come loose so the hall filled with warm air. we had the use of wi-fi which worked well. at the end John came round to see all was well. overall we had a pleasant stay & enjoyed our week at Prince Edward County. it's a pity we started off in a state of slight panick, not knowing how to contact John. he is a pleasant easygoing person, but not well organised. when we arrived he had just moved, which may account for the miscommunication.
We're located in the new and upcoming area of Prince Edward County, on the north shore of Lake Ontario. The 'County' has a lot to offer: wine tours, 4 star restaurants, art galleries, museums and a lot of history. We're a few minutes from the world famous Sandbanks Provincial Park.
