Overview

Mount Shasta House Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms /2 Baths, Sleeps 6-7, VERY Pet Friendly

(Feb. 2015) There has been little snow in Mt. Shasta this winter and thus fewer visitors. Bad for skiers, good for Chalet guests! Off-season rates are now in effect, 2 months early! See Rates section.

Special note Nov. 2014: The Chalet looks brand new! We took the opportunity during off-season) to have both the exterior and the interior painted. Come and see for yourself!]

Please look at our website, link above Owner Profile. Also in addition to the comments post on VRBO, some of the best comments are written in our Chalet guest book (the old fashioned way!). Please read some of them (following Owner Profile).

Note from guest Aug. 2014: 'You and Terri are the best VRBO owners I've ever worked with. And my friend, a gourmet chef, was very impressed, as she had rented VRBO homes in other parts of the country where the kitchens are not nearly so well equipped.'

-----------------------------------------------------

The Chalet at Mount Shasta: Nestled among the pines with views of magnificent Mount Shasta, this charming, modern chalet lets you relax and reflect on the serenity of the area while enjoying the comforts of home. Romantic luxury for 2... Yet spacious enough to sleep a large family. The unique combination of outstanding location, exceptional layout, and owner involvement makes The Chalet the perfect place for a mountain get-a-away. ( But if you MUST stay connected, WiFi internet access is provided.)

We, Jack and Terri, live in the Bay Area but go to Mount Shasta so often that we decided to buy the Chalet in 1999 for our own use and for guests. The Chalet is located three and a half miles from central Mount Shasta City, just north of the city limits in a quiet residential neighborhood, recessed from the street. There is plenty of distance (and trees!) between the neighbors. It is very peaceful and private. There is a wonderful view of the mountain from the deck, the dining area, and the upstairs loft area. You will find an outdoor table (with chairs and umbrella) on the deck during the warm weather months as well as an outdoor barbecue grill. And sleds in winter!

The large master bedroom suite (upstairs) has a queen bed, futon sleeper, walk-in closet, and full bath (with bathtub/shower). The loft outside the bedroom looks over the living area and offers a great reading spot, and is also perfect for viewing Mt. Shasta. The downstairs bedroom (queen bed) is on the main level with the living area and is nicely situated down a hallway allowing an escape to privacy. There is and another full bath (walk-in shower) near the bedroom. Additionally there is a reclining sofa in the living room where it is easy to fall asleep unintentionally (in front of TV and wood burning stove) where 1-2 people could sleep.

We pride ourselves on meeting the needs of our guests. All inquiries and reservations are handled directly by the owners (us!), not a property manager. Our goal is to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. We ENCOURAGE early arrivals and late departures whenever the guest schedule allows for it.

We are proud of our growing number of repeat guests, and we hope you enjoy The Chalet as much as we do. We are also dog-lovers, so you can bring ALL members of the family! The Chalet at Mount Shasta has an official Vacation Rental Permit granted by Siskiyou County.

==========

Please read the comments from our guests. Chalet 'regulars' sometimes base their vacation plans on available dates at The Chalet! Here is a typical comment:

We could not have been more pleased with our stay at The Chalet. This was our first time up at Mount Shasta, and we researched several places to stay before we found The Chalet's listing. It seemed perfect - spacious, close enough to the town and hiking that it would be easy to get around, but secluded enough for some real privacy. It's also pet friendly, a hugely important thing for obsessive dog owners such as ourselves. The Chalet has many great things going for it. Jack was very responsive to emails, and he has a lot of useful information (including directions for go-to spots) for your arrival and stay. We would highly recommend this place, and would love to come back in the spring or summer! Thanksgiving 2013

About Jack

Welcome to The Chalet at Mount Shasta! Our family includes Jack and Terri, son Daniel (14) and animals of course (currently 2 dogs, 1 bird, and tropical fish). We live in the Bay Area but love Mt. Shasta, and we stay at The Chalet for 4-5 days about every few months. We are thrilled to have been able to share The Chalet with so many people since we bought it in 1999, and so much appreciate our ‘regular’ guests who have also made The Chalet their ‘home-away-from’ home. We look forward to your visit! [August 2014]

Jack purchased this house in 1999

Why Jack chose Mount Shasta

We found ourselves returning to Mt. Shasta so often that we decided to buy a house for our visits and one that would be welcoming and comfortable for guests. We love all seasons in Mt. Shasta, but winter is our favorite time there.

What makes this house unique

We looked at many other properties first but when we walked into The Chalet, we instantly knew this was what we were looking for: not in town but close, view of the mountain, quiet, and a house that was not too big but could comfortably accommodate a large family (or two smaller ones). We've continued to add improvements, such as a fence in the backyard for 4-legged family members (2011). We personally made very effort to enhance your time in Mt. Shasta, and you will not be dealing with a property management company.

Guestbook comments from the owner

[Guest posted this review on a another vacation rental website] We normally stay in a cute "inn" or somewhere other than a hotel when we visit mt. Shasta, this time it was my husband's birthday so we really wanted somewhere special. He was dead set on a place with a fireplace! The chalet was the first one we saw and we knew that was the one! Its a beautiful house with everything you need and more! We loved it there and will definitely be going back yearly. Wonderful owners! Very sweet people!

Perfect family get away

  • 5 of 5

The Chalet was the perfect get away for our family. It was comfortable, clean and very relaxing. Being able to bring our dogs with us makes the family getaway complete! Jack is wonderful to work with and we would love to come back.

Home away from home

  • 5 of 5

The chalet has everything you need to feel at home. Great place to come "home" to, after a long hike up Mt. Shasta. Close enough to town, but feels like you are out in the woods with all the trees around. Great fenced in backyard to let the dogs out.

The living room was very welcoming and cozy.

Jack went above and beyond to accommodate us for our stay. He really worked with us and understood our needs.

Owner's Response: This guest called me about 1 week before Christmas. She had a reservation at another vacation rental but the owner had just canceled it because her own relatives decided to visit. I found this to be disturbing and quickly made arrangements for the guest to stay at The Chalet on short notice. The Chalet was already booked from Christmas Day through New Years but the guest stayed for 2 days, departing on Christmas Day. In order to accommodate this guest (and her 2 Siberian Huskies!), my property manager agreed to clean Christmas morning before the next guest arrived in the afternoon. The guest was quite grateful and even sent me photos of her and her dogs playing in the snow on the mountain. I am so glad that we were able to 'save' her Mt. Shasta vacation. We do whatever we can to meet the needs of guests and enhance their Mt. Shasta experience.

Great Chalet

  • 5 of 5

Great place to stay! The place is as advertised, and had everything a renter could ask for. Jack was great to work with, and was very helpful in sending us information on the best hikes in the area, and places to eat. Highly recommend this place for a visit to the Mt Shasta area.

Owner's Response: The Chalet IS a great place to stay, but it is much more than that. For me (Jack, owner) managing The Chalet is a also a hobby, and I thoroughly enjoy answering guest questions about the area, providing information on hikes, lakes, restaurants etc.. We want The Chalet to be just one part of your fantastic Mt. Shasta experience.

We really enjoyed the Chalet

  • 5 of 5

We're very familiar with the Mt. Shasta area and have stayed in a number of vacation rentals there. The Chalet met all our expectations--clean, comfortable, a well-stocked kitchen, and very attentive owners. Its location outside town is quite, and it's an easy drive or pleasant bike ride into town. For guests with pets (dogs, especially), this is a great place to stay.

Owner's Response: The Chalet is extremely pet-friendly with a fenced in back yard, dog treats, and food/water bowls (in case you forgot yours)! Yes, we are dog lovers with 2 of our own. By the way, a very nice place for humans too!

Wonderful Little Chalet

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful little chalet. We stayed here with our dog and enjoyed the stay very much. The owners were more that gracious and accommodating. We did have some car problems and the owners and the cleaning person went way out of their way to help us in every way. Even without a car for over a week we found things to do and to explore and the stay could not have been more pleasant.

Owner's Response: We pride ourselves not only on providing wonderful accommodations but also on doing whatever we can to enhance out guests’ Mt. Shasta experience. This guest was supposed to stay for 6 nights but had terrible car trouble on the second day. It’s a complicated story but they ended up without a car for their entire stay so we and our local property manager did whatever we could to make their carless vacation as enjoyable as possible under the circumstances. The car was still not ready when their departure date arrived. We allowed them to stay 2 additional nights at no charge until the next guests arrived.

Very relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

My family of four plus extended family of two stayed at the Chalet for 4 days after Christmas. The Chalet was very relaxing with plenty of space for all 6 of us plus 2 dogs. The wood stove made for a cozy setting despite the fact the snow never fell. We brought our quads and had fun exploring the surround the back hills and took a beautiful hike up to Castle Lake.

The Chalet was well equipped for all our cooking needs. Our dogs were so pampered especially with the dog treats! and great fenced yard! Also the interior was spotless!! Bravo to your cleaning lady...she does a great job! We will definitely be back again!

Thanks Again

Owner's Response: Yes, The Chalet is very pet-friendly. We travel everywhere with our 2 dogs so we know how important this is. (Well, we did leave our dogs home when we drove to Yellowstone and to Death Valley, not pet-friendly places.) But of course, our human guests are pampered too!
