Why The Owner chose Leland

The Leelanau Peninsula is truly one of the most beautiful places in the country. If you enjoy fresh water activities you will not find another place like it outside the State of Michigan. We looked at several lake communities before deciding on this spot and eight years later still believe we chose the perfect location in northern Michigan. Charlevoix and Harbor Springs were beautiful but lacked privacy. Traverse City and Petoskey, too city (never thought I would say that, but it has happened!); Northport, too far from the airport; Suttons Bay, few west facing views; then there are the inland lakes, private - yes, but not like looking at the big water or feeling the breeze from it, without mosquitos for some strange reason. It was and is as close to perfect as northern Michigan gets and each summer we spend here only confirms this.

What makes this house unique

One of the best things about the house is the location, it's close to everything and at the same time secluded and private. The house is surrounded by 5 acres of private wooded property but a 2 minute drive to the beach, a walk down the road to winetasting, a 5 min drive to shopping and restaurants, 35 minutes to a major airport, 10 minutes to a small plane airfield, 15 minutes to a broad range of activities and the Michigan shore across the street (beach access 1.5 mi). It doesn't get much better.

Peaceful Hill Top Haven

  • 5 of 5
We called this lovely dwelling "home" for a relaxing week and it really felt like staying in a home as opposed to a rental unit. The kitchen is nicely appointed and has everything for making family meals. The living area is spacious and comfortable, perfect for hanging out and watching movies on the large flat screen TV. The master suite has a king bed the is very comfortable with its plush bedding and view of the lake. The master bath and dressing area are also nicely appointed. Our two teens were happy and comfortable inhabiting the lower level which contained two bedrooms both of which opened up to the patio and a view of Lake Michigan. A full bath, and laundry room are also on the lower level. Views from the upper deck are beautiful, and sitting out there soaking in the sites of Lake Michigan was a welcomed beginning and ending to our fun-filled days. Activities like bike riding, shopping, and beach walking are an easy drive from the house. Michel is very attentive and available for questions. I would highly recommend vacationing at this lovely home.

Spectacular Sunset Views

Our first trip to the western upper mitten was incredible thanks to this home. So beautifully decorated and roomy. Everything you need is here. Big master with an office. A walk through closet with mirrored doors, skylight and changing area leads back to the master bathroom. Large open great room, kitchen with breakfast bar and an adorable pig statue in the window ;-) and dinning area. Wrap around porch with a sitting room. This is just on one level. You couldn't ask for better homeowners than Michel & Larry. Friendly and informative. It's a perfect place to get away from the busy Traverse City area, but close enough to drive when you need a dose of city life. Our favorite town was Suttons Bay. If you love Prime Rib & Lobster Tail go to Boones North Country Grill & Pub. We went twice and the price was so reasonable. Service and quality was top notch. I had a fun mixed drink called Attitude Adjustment. So yummy. We took day trips to Old Mission Pointe & Leelanau State Park to see the Lighthouses. Charlevoix & Petoskey. Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park, the Beach and visited many of the local wineries. At the end of each day, we'd hustle back to watch the breath taking sunsets over Lake Michigan, which was replaced by a celestial display of stars. We hope to make this one of our annual trips. Thanks for making our early 20th Anniversary Celebration one we'll never forget!

We rent often via vrbo.com, and have developed a short list of pet peeves that can ruin a stay. This house had none of them - we loved it! We've now stayed twice at this house - a week at the end of June, and a long weekend at the beginning of September, 2013. The house is big, smartly laid out (tv's everywhere - you don't have to watch in a downstairs closet like some other homes we've rented), and feels new and up to date. Initially I was going to cancel the first week when I found out the home is not ON Lake Michigan - it's across the street, which means you'll be driving to the beach. If this isn't an issue for you, it's the perfect rental! Aside from the attractions that come with being on the Peninsula, you have a beautiful, majestic view of Lake Michigan. The home is airy and spacious, with a beautiful fireplace, nice tv's for watching the Tigers, and the master bed is so comfy - that's the only one used during our stays. It's just my wife and I usually, and this house is ideal - if not "beach weather", we'll try to stay here for every up north trip. I think it's even more perfect for a group of 6-8 - I don't even know if we've been downstairs aside from the initial "tour".

Beautiful Getaway

I just stayed here with my daughters and this place is/has everything that you see in the pictures and more.

This was a first class experience all the way and made my experience of my favorite place on earth (Leelanau Peninsula) that much better.

It is close to the quaint towns of Leland, Suttons Bay are a both a few miles away. So are local farmstands and great little uncrowded braches.

The house itself has an unparalleled "front row" view of Lake Michigan and the prettiest sunsets in the world. So relaxing!

An awesome gem

Your property is absolutely fabulous – the setting, ambiance and privacy combined with a very clean, well equipped and maintained home provided everything we could have hoped for. The view of Lake Michigan from the front porch is superb, and we took many beautiful sunset photos. We had an exciting week exploring North Michigan and experiencing so many different activities including Sleeping Bear dunes, wine tasting, biking on Mackinac Island and swimming at Good Harbor beach. Thank you for sharing your home and taking excellent care of our family. The information you provided prior to our trip was very useful, especially the tips on restaurants. We will definitely be back!

Family Vacation

Wonderful place to spend a vacation. Nestled between Leland and Sleeping Bear Duns, you can't get a better view! Close proximity to canoeing, fishing, the beach, shopping or local wine tasting. The house is beautiful, comfortable and the owners were available at any time & easy to work with. Highly recommend staying. Great for families or a group of friends getaway!
