Mid-Century Style and Modern Charm in the Heart of the Hudson Valley Closed to a
Copper Hill House has been carefully designed and maintained to provide a sophisticated adult atmosphere. Decor and finishings are all unique and have been hand selected. To minimize potential for accidental damages, we regret that children under 13 and pets are not permitted.
Staying at the Copper Hill House rolls a variety of experiences into one. Just 2 hours away from the George Washington Bridge, 15 minutes from Windham and 30 minutes from Hudson.
Enjoy a glass of wine on the front porch as you take in spectacular sunsets against the backdrop of the Catskill Mountains. Grill a feast, nap in the hammock or hang out late night around the fire in our landscaped side yard. Up the hill behind the house, you'll find 4 private acres with a pond. The area is as good for a walk as it is for a game of horse shoes or badminton (provided). Or bring a football for a brisk fall game!
Inside the house, enjoy a mix of old and new. This historic home has been recently renovated and decorated in Mid-Century style.
Downstairs - A large kitchen with new appliances and wares is great for cooking and gathering. Entertain in the dining room with seating for 12 and a Krakauer upright piano. The living room (or parlor as we call it) features a wood stove and 42' television with Wii, Netflix, Amazon instant and DVD player. You'll even find an unexpected spa-style bathroom paneled in cedar with deep soaking tub for two (also corner shower, dressing room).
Upstairs - 4 bedrooms: One master suite with King-size bed and sitting area with fold out sofa, one shared suite with two double beds and two traditional bedrooms each with a double bed. This level also holds a second bathroom with custom terrarium shower and modern finishes. There is ample closet space and fresh towels and linens provided.
Other perks include a book and board game collection, acoustic guitar and several Wii games.
If you can draw yourself away from the property, there are dozens of attractions nearby in all seasons. Swimming across the road at the Catskill Creek, hiking, horseback riding, fishing, antiquing, wineries, apple orchards - not to mention winter skiing. We have a full guide updated as we discover more. The charming town of Freehold is just .8 miles away with a general store, pub and an unmatched dining experience at Ruby's Hotel Restaurant(Zagat rated). Windham sky mountain is less than half an hour away and so is Hudson. There are 35 peaks to hike, 2 mountains for skiing and snowboarding plus Hunter mountains’s Zipline adventure. Taking a detour might land you in the highest cascading waterfalls in New York State or the music and art scene at Hudson. Antiquing, fine dinning and live music are a heard bit away from Copper Hill House.

Why Patricia Bernard chose Catskills
I started staying in the Catskills a few years ago to take a break from the city and indulge in nature and tranquility. It was magical from the first time I viewed it - totally by chance as we were visiting a friend with a home in the area. The house, though charming, was in need of major renovation and was a project I was very excited to take on.
As we got to know the area, we were lucky enough to befriend the town historian and his wife. Through their extensive knowledge and photographic library, we were able to consider the the home's 100+ year history when making improvements (like hand-rebuilding the original stone wall pictured in the above photograph from the early 20th century). Also, as our escape from the city, the land itself is very important and is in a constant process of beautification.
Being a fine mix of social and private, Copper Hill lends to similar people. There are friendly neighbors to chit-chat with and ways to be out and about, but ultimately we want to make sure our guests have the chance to feel as at home in as they would in their own and to recharge.
What makes this house unique
For the summer the catskill creek its steps away, for winter all the mayor mountains are less than 30 minutes away. Also 30 minutes from Hudson and its night life and 4 minutes from Ruby's Hotel Restaurant which often has life music and always has fantastic food made with organic locally grown produce.
Guestbook comments from the owner
Copper Hill House is great. We had a group of 9, and plenty of space in the big kitchen, dining room, and outdoors for us to all cook and hang out together. The beds are all comfortable, and the house overall is well stocked. The big yard and surrounding area are both beautiful - we spent lots of time at the creek that's a short walk from the house. I highly recommend packing up and spending the whole day swimming and laying on the rocks!
Perfect Catksills home for homebodies and skiiers!
4 of 5
Patricia was a very gracious and accommodating host. Although we never met her, her on-site managers, Deb and Don, aka the house neighbors were helpful but never intrusive. We saw Don as we were getting ready for our Saturday ski excursion in the morning and he offered to bring us firewood from the shed for us to use in the living room fire stove. Don also offered great advice when we asked for hiking/walking paths (the five acres behind the house and across the Freehold airport to the creek).
Patricia was also easy to reach via e-mail and very responsive closer to the day/week of our trip. She also sent very detailed and informative check-in/check-out instructions, house amenities, and suggested dining/shopping/recreational activities in the vicinity.
The house itself had a lot of character. We especially loved the kitchen with its retro finishes (retro microwave, rustic cabinets, etc.). We bought a lot of groceries and cooked up a storm for brunches and dinners so having a dishwasher and a big, modern refrigerator was essential. Half our group decided to stay indoors and bake while the other half went skiing, so having access to every kitchen tool and appliance and basic baking ingredients and spices came very handy!
We also appreciated the many boardgames and Wii game system! It kept the homebodies entertained.
The bedrooms were adequate, given that we were pushing the accommodations limit with our group of 13. The master bedroom and the two double beds room were the most spacious, but the two private double rooms were fine for the couples in our group. Although, you might want to open a window overnight as it does get stuffy/overheated! We were also able to fit in extra air mattresses in the double beds' room and in the living room.
The bathrooms were unique, although the water pressure in the rainfall shower could be better. It did not help that we had such a large group but everyone took longer showers because of the weak water pressure. There is also limited hot water in the spa bathroom in the entry floor. Some of us girls wanted to try soaking in the spa tub but found the hot water would turn to cold after a few seconds. The shower stalls in both bathrooms are also surprisingly narrow, despite the bathroom being a decent size. But they were both well-stocked with single use/travel size toiletries.
We loved the house for our ski trip (Windham was only a 25 min drive!) We're interested in returning for a summer trip to swim in the creek!

Owner's Response: You are welcome back any time! Few tips: The water heater heats an entire tank avery 20 minutes. I usually fill the double tube half way with really hot water. Wait 10 minutes and finish filling it up. That works but obviously it is hard to accommodate a lot of people using hot water constantly. The heat is control by guest with 2 thermostats, one for the second floor and one for the first floor. Since heat rises, it is a good idea to turn down the downstairs thersmostat when retiring to the second floor or to keep both at a moderate temperature.
Copper Hill House was an excellent house for me and my friends to spend the memorial weekend this year. The house was wonderfully designed and there was plenty room for all of us to sleep totally comfortably (there were ten of us!) The creek across the airfield was beautiful and we were lucky enough it was warm enough for us to swim. Accidentally walked across the landing strip at one stage because we didn't pay attention to signs- don't do this! super dangerous! The locals were kind and having the managers across the street for any questions was a lovely comfort.
We loved our stay in the house. We were 6 adults and 3 kids and there was enough space for all of us. The house was very clean and Patricia had provided for all the basic necessities. We enjoyed the fire pit and just hanging around the house. Will definitely recommend it.
A group of 6 stayed here for a weekend motorcycle trip. The house is very nice with everything you could possibly need. Comfortable beds, great firepit, very nice kitchen, and high comfort. We would highly recommend this home to anyone looking for some relaxation in aa great location.
