Richard has been a log home builder for 27 years. Richard and Katie have both seen their partners go through cancer and pass away. Then God so graciously brought us together in 2005. Richard had 11 children and Katie had 9 which gives us the grand total of 20. One passed on in 2000 so we cherish the others though most of them are now married and do not live at home.
We enjoy all the natural beauty around us. We greatly appreciate what ' Our loving Father in Heaven' has created for our enjoyment.

Richard and Katie Troyer purchased this lodge in 1998
We are using this beautiful log home as a model as we share it with others.
I always enjoyed water, The depth of the lake and the high ground with its ever green trees all around is what drew me to this location. You will have to exsperance it yourself to know what i am saying.--------Richard & Katie-------
Dear Mr.Troyer & Family; Just want to say thank You for a wonderful stay at your "Waters Edge" Cabin; We loved all the exquisite decor of each room. We had an invigorating walk around the lake, but the highlight of the trip was the zip line experience. Your cabin is so inviting and it allowed plenty of room for 3 generation to interact.
Thank You again for a very enjoyable weekend. Mr. & Mrs Buck our Kids & GrandKids Too!
What a wonderful location for our annual family vacation. Our crew included five adult brothers and sisters and inlaws along with their 6 teenage children and grandma and grandpa. We had a total of 13 and the cabin fit all easily and comfortably. It is a beautiful cabin; large spacious and conducive to family activities. The waterfall outside is beautiful but we did turn it off after a while so we could enjoy peaceful mornings and evenings. No TV or internet was great, although it did take a bit of time for some of the folks to get used to. A big table allowed us to plan many board games. In addition we had a ping pong tournament in the game room and a corn hole tournament outside.
The small lake (no power boats) was peaceful. We enjoyed fishing for bass, and a bit of swimming. The bass fishing was actually quite good and we caught a few sizable fish right off the dock. The zipline was a treat for the teenagers, parents and even grandma at age 79 enjoyed the experience. While there is a volleyball court on the property we chose to make the short 15 minute drive to Cadillac to enjoy the beach and sand volleyball court. While there we also made it a point to stop for Ice Cream at Cheryl’s Landing.
Overall, I highly recommend this cabin for family vacations and group events where you want to enjoy the natural surroundings and each other. I am certain we'll be back.
This was my family’s 2nd opportunity to relax in this absolute Marvel of a cottage, and it truly only got better, with the addition of the Water Fall, Car Port and Pontoon Lake Slide this cottage cannot possibly disappoint. How wonderful it is to be able to reconnect with your family by simply pulling the plug on their technology. No internet is a blessing in this paradise, and this is coming from an I.T. Professional...If you are looking for the Story Book Cottage adventure with incredibly gracious hosts, than cross your fingers as I did this year and pray there is an open week left to celebrate it with your family...I know this cottage already has a name but I vote for a name change....Heaven on the Lake...Thanks you Richard and Katie once again for the opportunity our memories will never be forgotten
This property surpassed our expectations. The log home was beautifully crafted, there are many thoughtful details throughout that extend to the waterfall and dock. The rainbow bridge was a lot of fun and we got some good family photos. We went during the Fall colors and the views from the deck were amazing. We enjoyed all the supplied firewood for the fireplace and campfires. It was fun to meet the owner and hear his stories about how they built the place and to fellowship over God's Word.
We used this location for our organization's leadership training, and we didn't have one negative thing to say about it. Richard and Katie are very sweet people first of all. Secondly, the property and the cabin were perfect for the purpose of our trip. It was perfect for the young people that we brought. They couldn't sit on their phones, computers, or in front of a TV. They were forced to engage in human interaction, and for this generation, that's almost unheard of! Even though they didn't have internet or TV, they had a BLAST. Swimming, fishing, volleyball, canoeing, bonfire, the zip line... Seriously, we were ALL satisfied and would not change a thing. Even from a bunch of teenagers, there were NO complaints.
The cabin was exceptional. Well designed. Large and comfortable. The opportunity for activity was also excellent. The unit was well priced for the amenities. Washer and Dryer were new. I would have given it an excellent if the kitchen cookware has been better.
We had a wonderful weekend away at the waters edge. The home is amazing and hosted by 2 wonderful people. Richard greeted us on our arrival and started the fire in the fireplace. A fire we kept going all weekend long. Everything you would need for a getaway was provided. We kept ourselves busy walking the woods, playing ping-pong or just enjoying some quiet time by the fire. Our 4 year old enjoyed it so much she was quite the protester when it was time to leave and return to civilization. We look forward to returning until the time we can have Richard help us build our own Natural log cabin.
