We are Bruce & Terri, Floridians whose hearts live in the Blue Ridge mountains. Bruce is a retired combat firefighter still working for the Fire Department in logistics. Terri owns a small business selling Gourmet Foods. Our dream of owning a home in the Blue Ridge mountains recently came true when we purchased this quaint cottage in the woods. It was recently renovated and updated by the former owners who treasured it over many decades. It has a new tin roof, new paint inside and out and has been furnished with family antiques and original art collected over a life time of several generations. It is our gift to you.
Bruce & Terri Bemiss purchased this cottage in 1972
We have been coming to Blue Ridge for over 20 years to visit friends, explore the area and shop. It has always been our desire to have a retirement home here. We owned a property 3 miles away but last year it was struck by lightning and burned to the ground. Heartbroken, we sold the land and took some time to decide how to proceed. Exactly one year later, we found this lovely cottage for sale and knew it was the place for us. We have spent many peaceful hours on the screened porch listening to the creek running just outside the back door. Our philosophy is, 'If you can't find peace on this porch, you can't find peace anywhere.' We've hired professionals with impeccable standards to oversee the cleaning and maintenance so that you have a worry-free stay in our home.
Unlike many mountain retreats, Blue Ridge Escape has fully paved access, high speed wireless and satellite dish television with three phones featuring unlimited long distance and local calls. No other houses are within view and the heavily wooded property gives the feeling that you are in a tree house, with the sound of running water from the the creek nearby. The cottage is ideal for romantic weekends (for one or two couples), ladies & friends weekends away, working vacations and entertaining. Amenities, such as the load ramp for the Toccoa River, are within ten minutes from your door. Its a great place to hike, bike and stroll with excellent views of nearby farms and fields. The mist from the mountains in the morning air give the place a mystical feel.
My family wanted to get away for one last weekend before the kids had to go back to school. This cottage in the woods was great. It was the perfect size for my husband and I and our two kids. The kids loved the cozy room upstairs with all of the frogs and the screened in porch was amazing. We had a great time.
My husband and I were trying to find a last-minute place to stay in the mountains for the weekend with our 2 children, and after hours of searching and finding most places booked or not what we were looking for, we found this little house. Terri answered my inquiry quickly and made things very easy and smooth to work out, even though it was the day of.
The house is just as pictured. Everything is decorated so cozy and comfortably, with a well-stocked kitchen (even with coke in the fridge, coffee, and a few spices), books, DVDs, and even fishing poles. The screened-in porch was my favorite, surrounded with the greenery outside, and with the comfortable daybed piled with pillows and blankets, perfect for curling up with a book all day listening to the rain or the creek (which is exactly what I did). And the kids loved being able to play in the creek.
Other little touches, like the coffee cups and tray waiting on the cozy bed upstairs, the throw blankets over every living room chair, and the large bathroom set up with plush towels and soaps and lotions made this place very inviting and relaxing. We will certainly come here again.
What a peaceful charming little haven which is so very warm and welcoming! I could have spent the entire weekend on the screened porch.
Great escape a little ways from town 25-30 min, but all paved roads. Solid amenities including wifi. Great for anyone or couples looking to escape pet friendly, dogs had a great time.
My family and I really enjoyed our stay at this adorable little cottage. We are a family of four, with our daughters being 5 and 7. I would say this house was perfect-sized for our family situation. The home is lovingly decorated and well-appointed with everything we needed to cook meals and relax around the house. I particularly enjoyed the expansive book collection in the downstairs bedroom, and my young daughters felt like they were in their own little hideaway upstairs. They were particularly enamored with the many frogs around the home, which are concentrated up in their room (the frog collection has a cool story behind it, ask the owner!) The trip into Blue Ridge takes about 20 minutes and was an easy, scenic drive. We picked apples at Mercier's, visited a waterfall, and went atop Brass Bald Mountain during our trip. Fun, fun, fun! We will be returning next year!
We booked this cottage for the fantastic porch, the wifi, and the land phone. We weren't disappointed with all 3 conveniences. We even caught small fish in the creek behind the house without having to go elsewhere. Relaxing days of staying put. You are 30 minutes drive from Ellijay or Blue Ridge, so we were happy to stock up on some groceries and eat most meals at the cottage. We found the housekeeping lacking and have already spoken to the owner who has determined to find better local maid and cleaning services. Quaint, with lots of amenities.
Nestled in the middle of the Chattahoochee National Forest, a short walk to the Toccoa River, ten minutes away from rafting & canoe launches, 20 minutes from Historic Blue Ridge, Blairsville, Ellijay, Cartecay Winery, antique shops, restaurants, ziplining, horseback riding, helicopter rides and more. Excellent restaurants and farm to table shopping (farm fresh produce, eggs, dairy & goat cheese, organically grown meats available at farms & shops near Ellijay and Blue Ridge. The road is paved to the door, so no worries for access.
