This Craftsman Bungalow built in 1914 is lovely both inside and out, a historic home with modern conveniences. It's a rare gem, one of a few houses in Austin located on the south side of Lady Bird Lake overlooking downtown. The location is ideal - 10 minutes west of the airport, 5 minutes east of downtown and South Congress, with ready access to the 10 mile hike-and-bike trail that circles Lady Bird Lake and to IH35, which links Austin to San Antonio to the south and the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex to the north. It is perfect for those wishing to visit the Formula One race track, ACL, SXSW and many of the other super cool events happening in Austin.

A huge, southern style front porch welcomes guests and is the perfect place to enjoy a drink or an evening meal outside. A pair of Adirondack chairs, several benches and a porch swing make for comfortable seating, and a big oak table is perfect for serving dinner, hosting a card game, or simply chatting and drinking wine late into the evening.

Inside, the house has 4 bedrooms - 2 upstairs, and 2 downstairs. It easily accommodates groups with a variety of sleeping arrangements: downstairs you'll find one bedroom with a pillow-top queen bed, and another with a pull-out full-sized futon; upstairs there is a bedroom with a full-sized bed and another with 2 twin beds. With use of an optional air mattress, our house provides space enough for 10 people to sleep comfortably. Each floor has a full-sized bathroom featuring a claw-foot tub with shower, in case you need a relaxing soak after a day of enjoying Austin's sights.

Two separate living rooms (one upstairs, one down) and good spacing offer enough privacy to make sharing this home easy for larger groups, and allows for grown-ups and kids to have separate places to enjoy movies or games. The house has wifi and cable and two big screens - one upstairs, one down - to enjoy them on.

A well-appointed and fully stocked kitchen makes cooking a pleasure. The dining room features a long table and bench seating, with additional chairs available, to accommodate large groups. Behind the kitchen in the back of the house is a small private outdoor patio with a grill and seating area.

The location is fantastic: Travis Heights is the closest residential neighborhood to downtown, and a short walk or a $5 cab ride to the shops and restaurants of South Congress or 6th Street nightlife. You can pick up the 10-mile Lady Bird Lake Hike and Bike Trail just to the east and west of the house and walk, bike or run to Zilker Park and Barton Springs. We are only a 10 minute drive or $20 cab ride to the airport. Unless your plans include travel outside the Austin area, you don't need to rent a car to enjoy Austin's many sights and activities - you can easily walk or take the bus or a cab from the house.

While Austin offers more than enough to keep you busy, if your plans include visiting San Antonio - home of the Alamo, the Riverwalk, Seaworld and Six Flags- you'll be happy to know that our ready access to IH35 makes the trip to San Antonio a quick 80 minutes. If shopping is your thing, you'll want to plan a stop the outlet malls in San Marcos on the way - just 30 minutes south of town. And if you are meeting additional guests or family members, you'll enjoy the fact that our easy-to-find, convenient location makes meeting up a breeze.

Parking here is good and you'll be free to use the driveway. Just a 3 minute walk from the house you'll find a bus stop serving several central routes through Austin.

We're down to earth, and love to share our house and the joys of our city with travelers who may be coming through Austin for one of it's many great events. We can give you insider tips on anything you may want help with: from coffee shops, restaurants, juice bars, venues, local arts and recreation in general, points of interest, gyms, dry cleaners, whatever you may need - we can probably help. If there's something you'd like to see in the fridge when you arrive, let us know, we can try to accommodate. If you'd like to arrive to a kitchen full of groceries that you would like to use during your stay, let us know and we can do a full shopping trip prior to your arrival for a small fee plus the cost of your items.

After growing up in Texas, I lived on both the East and West Coasts before happily returning to Austin in 2005. I love this town - it is full of art, music, and characters big and small. There are boundless opportunities to enjoy the outdoors, from hiking in the Barton Creek Greenbelt to swimming in Barton Springs to walking or riding the hike and bike trail. There's great food, from trailer park cuisine to Tex-Mex to fine dining. And the people here are genuinely friendly. I wouldn't live anywhere else!

Austin is an incredible city and living here offers delightful surprises on a daily basis. Finding this gorgeous house on Lady Bird Lake was a rare opportunity, and when I can, I love to share our space here and offer travelers the opportunity to enjoy Austin as easily and happily as we do.

From our house, you can walk downtown in minutes, or go a few blocks south and shop the stores on South Congress. There are endless restaurants, coffee shops, bars and activities just blocks or short cab rides away, including Barton Springs Pool, hike and bike trails around the lake, and the Barton Creek Green Belt. Nearly everything you could want is within easy reach.

Adorable home minutes form downtown Austin.

My friends and I, 10 of us, stayed here for a weekend long Bachelorette party and it was perfect for our vacation. The home was nicely decorated and very cozy, sleeping everyone comfortably. It was also so close to everything, whether we drove or got picked up in cabs. Owners were also accessible if an issue occurred.

Would absolutely stay here again.

Character filled, casual, comfy, just awesome!

We had the grand fortune of staying at Lady Bird Lakehouse for just over 3 months. It was the perfect landing place as we were new to Austin and seriously considering relocating from California. The location is so convenient, close to I-35, South Congress and downtown, all just minutes away. The street is quiet with a large open field next to the house and Lady Bird Lake across the street. The wrap-around porch with swing and chairs offer a relaxing way to enjoy the day. The living room is inviting for hanging out, watching TV and or listening to great music - there is a wide selection of CD's to choose from. The kitchen is well stocked and so versatile - stools at the counter as well as a beautiful wooden table, we hung out here a lot. The master bedroom offers lots of natural light and the bed is most comfortable. The upstairs is so private from downstairs, with comfy couch, seating area and another TV. The bedrooms are well situated to offer privacy, beds were comfortable and sheets and linens were good quality. The property was well taken care of and clean.

The on-line pictures accurately portray the beauty of this property.

Lisa and Tracey are delightful and so responsive to inquiries and requests.
I highly recommend staying at the house for a week-end or an extended stay. The casual, relaxing, private atmosphere was very nurturing.

Fantastic location and amazing setting!!

I and a group of friends chose this house mostly because of the great location, but we came to find out that this house had much more to offer than that. The house was very clean and roomy with a large wrap-around porch that was perfect for lounging on in the perfect Austin spring weather. The bathrooms were clean and in good condition. There were 6 beds, 2 of which were king/queen, so it can definitely sleep at least 8 (not counting comfy couches and an air mattress!). The common rooms (both upstairs and downstairs) had plenty of seats to accommodate guests and the flat screen had full cable.

Even with all those great amenities, the location is still what stood out to me. I love dogs and this house is a stone’s throw from a popular dog park. However if dogs aren’t your thing there is a large field that separates the house from the park. We arrived in blue bonnet season and the field was in full bloom; it made for quite the vista when looking out over the front porch with the Colorado River in the background. While there is a house next door and a main thoroughfare behind the house, I felt like the location was a very peaceful spot. Secluded enough from the noise of the street, but within a couple minute walk to 35 and a ten minute walk to Rainey St.

All in all this was a wonderful house, in a central location, in a vibrant, fun city. I’m not sure what more one would want in a rent house.

Great location and space

We rented the house for a reunion of six old friends. The property had many features that made it perfect for this event. It is very close to the airport, to great restaurants and entertainment and the trail on Town Lake. We enjoyed the South Congress area less than a mile away for shopping, drinks and tacos at the food trailers. We went downtown for food and coffee. The four bedrooms (5 beds) are private, well sized and sound doesn't carry easily between them. The living spaces snf porch are perfect for small gatherings and conversation. You could actually entertain pretty effectively in the kitchen if you wanted to. The property manager was great both prior to and after arrival. We would certainly rent this property again and recommend to small groups or families.

Great weekend getaway in Austin!

We had a group of seven stay at this house and all slept very comfortably. I recommend this for a group looking for a home base during games or for couples looking for a quiet but convenient getaway. I definitely plan to return. GREAT LOCATION and Tracy, and the owner/staff will help out with whatever you need.

Wonderful house and fun week in Austin!

Lady Bird Lake house was a great place to spend 5 days in Austin. There were 10 friends in our group and we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the house. It was spacious and stocked with everything we needed. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The house had a wrap around front porch with plenty of seating and it was enjoyable to sit outside in the evenings. I really liked that we could use the nice kitchen to make coffee in the morning and have some food before setting out for the day.
The owner was very helpful and responsive in answering any questions and providing ideas for activities. She also provided a map of the city and suggested some great local restaurants.
The house is located in the historic Travis Heights neighborhood which felt very safe and was quiet in the evenings. Most nights we walked downtown to the restaurants and the bars on 6th street. The cab ride home was a quick $5 ride. The house is also close to Zilker Park/Barton Springs and it's very easy to get to and from the airport. Would highly recommend this rental if you’re planning a vacation to Austin!!
