|Minimum Stay||4 nights|
Although the cottage itself is nestled into sublimely quiet surroundings (with easy access to beaches and hiking trails), it is also just minutes from more active pursuits. The newly completed Concordia Eco Complex, with its splendid seaside setting (bar, restaurant, grocery store, snorkel rental, day -trips, and yoga/massage facility) is just 0.8 miles up the road and the town of Coral Bay, with its many attractions (water sports, horseback riding, shopping, restaurants, nightlife and more) is less than a 10 minute drive away.
The nearest beach is 0.3 miles away. While a rental car is recommended (for optimal touring of the rest of the island), the Salt Pond Bay bus stop (servicing both Coral Bay and Cruz Bay is just a three minute walk away, making your stay possible without one.
In 1988, my wife and I bought a timeshare property at Bluebeards Castle in St. Thomas and fell in love with St. John during our many trips to the island. It always our dream as we neared retirement to buy a property on St. John. It is now our pleasure to share it with you.

Dear Liz and Russ,
Thank you so much for your hospitality. We adored the cottage! It is so cute and cozy. You have done a wonderful job creating the perfect paradise get away. We are so glad we found it and wish we could stay much longer. Next time!

P.S. You have a great library! I read three books while I was here and I am going home with a long list of titles. - Emily.
We enjoyed our stay in Liz and Russ's home. We had all of the windows open so that the nightly breeze (at times quite gusty!) and nature sounds lulled us to sleep. After a day at the beach snorkeling and swimming, it was just as wonderful to come back to the relaxing Lampshur home. The home is well maintained and clean. We thoroughly enjoyed the collection of reggae music and sitting out on the deck, and the hot tub with our morning coffee.
The location was perfect for us. We enjoy the quiet side of the island. The cottage is just down the road from Salt Pond Bay and Little Lampshur bays, two of our favorites. It doesn't take long (20 min tops) to get to the North side bays like Maho and Jumbie. Just watch out for the goats, chickens, and donkeys, and the little dog up the road!
Thank you Liz and Russ for opening up your home to us!
We arrived late in the evening, and although we have been to the island before, this was our first time staying in the Coral Bay area. Russ met us at the driveway and guided us to the donkey corral/parking lot (this is why we love St. John!). He took us up to the cottage and showed us around, got us situated, gave us hints. He and Liz, who we didn't have the opportunity to meet as she was on the Mainland, live down the hill from the cottage so if you need anything or have an issue they are there to help. However, not intrusive in any way.
The cottage itself is 2 bedrooms - one smaller one off the kitchen and then the main bedroom that leads to the deck and hot tub, bbq, loungers. Although there is a wifi hotspot below the house on a path, we were able to receive the signal at the cottage on the deck and in the smaller bedroom (had to do work :().
The kitchen has a full size fridge, gas stove, microwave, sink, 1 gallon of drinking water (so pick some up at the store), enough pots, pans, utensils, etc to make do. We had breakfasts "in" and 2 dinners so it was fine for us.
There is a washer and dryer as well. And the bathroom was lovely - the shower felt outdoors without being outdoors.
There are ceiling fans and a big floor fan and when we were there, we had great breezes and never felt uncomfortable. Lovely bedding and a very comfortable bed; lots of towels - beach and otherwise.
We really liked the location, but it wouldn't be for everyone. A car is necessary - there is a bus stop nearby, but you would miss so much of the island without a car. Beaches were very close. But it is about 10 minutes from Coral Bay and then those "8 tuff miles" from Cruz Bay. So you need to be comfortable with driving.
There are food markets in Coral Bay and along the road to Lameshur. As well great restaurants in Coral Bay. Plus Concordia is very close - great restaurant and views.
We would definitely recommend if you are a hiking, snorkeling, sun loving, fairly fit, adventure type traveller! And that is why we picked St. John in the first place!!
Russ and Liz are the best hosts. They are extremely friendly, and always encouraged my never ending questions!
This was a solo trip for me, but the cottage was large enough for a family. The accommodations didn't skip a beat, and It felt like home, except with the added bonus of a hot tub! There was a full kitchen, washer/dryer, living room space, screened in porch, basically everything you would want and need.
The cottage was nicely located on the south end of the island for my adventuring and snorkeling needs.
Nearby, Cafe Concordia has some of the best food on the island if you are a foodie like me. And Tourist Trap is a great lunch spot with excellent homemade ice cream.
I'd definitely come back to stay at Lameshur Cottages.
My family (me, husband, almost four-year-old daughter) just spent a week at Lameshur Cottage. It's hard to describe how much we loved it. The house is charming and well-equipped. We loved the breezes that blew through the many windows and taking showers in the (almost) open-air bathroom. And the hot tub was just what we needed after a long day of hiking, snorkeling, etc. It's also very kid-friendly. Liz and Russ have snorkel gear, beach chairs, beach towels, sand toys, etc. -- everything you need for a great family vacation. This is a wonderful place to stay if (like us) you're not into resorts.
Two of us stayed in the main cottage for five nights. We arrived to the island around dinner time and chose to enjoy a meal & some drinks in Cruz Bay (Lime In's always a fresh treat!), which made it a bit too late for any taxis to take us across island. Russ was able to pick us up for a very modest gas fee (remember-- gas is over $5/gal here) and gave us plenty of pointers as we travelled the 35 minutes to Lameshur Cottages. We made use of the hot tub and slept beautifully with the comfort of trade winds and fans. The next morning we walked up to the bus stop at Salt Pond where we caught the Vitran to take us back to Cruz Bay to pick up our rental car. The Vitran drivers were kind & informative-- great $1 deal that runs weekdays only-- and dropped us at O'Connor's Rental Cars where two lovely ladies (Nelia & Trishell) worked magic to get us situated (make sure you reserve in advance). Half a day in Cruz Bay allowed for a yummy breakfast at The Landing & shopping prior to heading back to Coral Bay area to pick up basic groceries (we recommend Calabash Market-- they even have a deli) & then to the cottage to change into our swimsuits. Salt Pond Bay is only minutes away, and with use of the supplied beach chairs & cooler we lounged in paradise for the rest of the afternoon.
Each night we hopped the Coral Bay restaurants for a nibble & drink at two or three places. Live music is bountiful, so go where your ear leads you! As far as food goes, everything's average in Coral Bay, but we liked Shipwreck Landing, Oasis, & Skinny Legs best. We only hit up Cafe Concordia for their Sunday Brunch EXCELLENT!!!!), and based on the experience, wished we had tried dinner prior.
Love Salt Pond & Little Lameshur Bays for beach fun, and of course explored other beaches since we had the car. Trunk Bay holds a special place in our hearts, but really Salt Pond was all we needed to relax.
All in all, The Lameshur Cottages is the perfect island getaway! You are away from tge hustle & bustle & supplied with all the comforts you need. Make use of the snorkeling equipment & float! Feeling adventurous? Take out the kayak (we were too lazy for that, but go for it!). Hike, lounge, swim-- do as you please! And make friends as you settle into island time. We left with many contacts to stay in touch with!
I can't praise this place enough! Thank you, Russ! And Liz, we hope to meet you next time! Cheers!
Russ made us feel welcome from the minute we arrived. All of our needs were taken care of and all of our questions answered. The cottage provided everything we could have asked for: clean, comfortable and convenient. Great beaches and restaurants, some within walking distance and a "mere" 8 tough miles to Cruz Bay. As Russ points out a car is a must not a luxury. We've come to St John many times and this was our first time in Coral Bay and we wouldn't hesitate to return. Great for 1st timers or those of you veterans of the Islands.
