About The Owner

This property is managed by Wedowee Lake & Lands Realty, LLC.

The Owner purchased this house in 2010

Why The Owner chose Wedowee

My family heritage is from this region of Alabama and we always dreamed of a home on a lake in this part of Alabama, This lakehouse is located central between Atlanta and Birmingham. We have family in both places and the home is a large 5 bedroom lakehouse where my children and grandchildren can come and visit. The waterfront lake house on Lake Wedowee is more than we ever dreamed of! We wanted a home close to good fishing and hunting! The lakehouse is .5 miles to Fosters Landing and boat launch, where there is a nice seasonal restaurant and convenience store called 'Scoops' that has gas for boats located on the Lake.

What makes this house unique

This lakehouse is located on year round water and has a mountain lake setting on the upper part of Lake Wedowee. This section of the lake is away from much of the major boat traffic that is on the main part of the Lake. The unique benefits are the beauty and serenity of the lake and surroundings provide a relaxing atmosphere to help you unwind and rejuvenate. This lake house has 5 bedrooms and 3 baths on a great location of the lake. The floating dock is a wonderful place to relax and catch a nice fish from the popular fishing hole directly in front of the dock! The property is located on a quiet cove where Buchanan Creek enters Lake Wedowee.

Second stay as good as the first

  • 5 of 5

Our group of 3 couples rented this gorgeous place for Talladega race weekend. Everything was perfect. We really enjoyed the porches and had more than enough room for everyone. Talia was extremely helpful in coordinating our arrival and departure. Kitchen was exceptionally well equipped with pots/pans/dishes/glassware. Very clean and well kept. It is obvious that the owners and management company take pride in this property. We enjoyed the breakfast biscuits at the gas station down the road on the way to the track too.

October stay at M & D's Lake House

  • 5 of 5

This was a repeat stay for our family. This is a beautiful home and is large enough for us to have local relatives come by for mini reunions with us. It is always clean, well furnished and we feel at home here. Thanks again for a lovely place to enjoy the lake.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the kind words about our home. We are delighted to get return customers and hope you and our family will come again! We try hard to make each stay a fun and lifetime memory for you and your family. We too have family and friends close by and they come visit us when we stay there also.

Great Family Fun

  • 4 of 5

My family and my brother's family met in Alabama for a mini vacation. The house was great for our families. We had enough space for us all to sleep as well as hang around. It was so fun to be together and have a great time. The lake was nice and we enjoyed the dock; fishing, swimming and much laughter. The game room was an added bonus. If your looking for a relaxing get away, this is a great spot.

Dream come true!

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from our week at Lake Wedowee and I would like to thank you for a wonderful experience! It was everything I wanted and more! We were 2 families with 5 adults, 6 high school/college kids, and a 4yo granddaughter. Everyone had so much space! Never once did we feel crowded. The "big kids" had the run of downstairs and had game tournaments in the garage every night! The "old kids" got to visit upstairs and relax on the porch without ever hearing a peep from downstairs! 2 women easily cooking together in the spacious kitchen. Lots of extras I have not seen in other rental homes...plenty of cooking pans, pots, utensils, etc. The house was clean and organized..loved the notes for the light switches..very helpful! Loved sitting on the porch every morning with my morning coffee..watching the sun come up and the ducks swim much so that I got up at 6 am every morning on my vacation! The dock was fantastic! We swam, fished and floated. Water was refreshingly cool...some lakes have tepid water..not this one! LOVED the location! No busy boat traffic..swim without fear of getting run over. We found a company, not listed in the rental guide that delivered wave-runners right to our dock! It was so much fun! I took the liberty of writing down the contact info and sticking it in the rental guide for the next family! The name was H2OZONE. So convenient to have Scoops just around the corner to gas up the wave-runners/boat etc. And the boat ramp a stones throw away! We fished every night and got more than enough crappie and catfish to have a fish fry on our final night. About the towels...We too washed the towels the night before check out..and advised everyone to use the beach towels we had brought in the morning..with kids..I found myself policing the towels to try to make sure one wasn't used. Also, trash accumulated rapidly with that many people...I was worried to leave out the trash bags by the containers as the containers were full but didn't really have a choice..I hope that was okay. I could go on forever about how much I enjoyed my time there...needless to say...We will be seeing you soon! My husband and brother-in-law kept asking..."wonder if they rent their Alaska house?" lol..that's how great our stay was!! I've stayed in numerous 5 star hotels and didn't have as good or relaxing a time!

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for your kind and positive comments in reference to your visit to M&D’s Lake House. We are so delighted you and your family had a positive experience at our home. We too enjoy the remote location on the lake away from the boat traffic. We also enjoy our decks and floating dock to watch sun rises and sun sets. Thank you for your suggestion on towels and we now have a new policy that makes the towel situation at checkout much smoother. We believe this problem has been addressed and will not happen to any of our future quests. We are also adding a third garbage can so there should not be a problem with too much garbage collecting in the future! Thank you for the wonderful comment comparing our home to 5 star hotels. That was a very rewarding comment as we work hard to make our home very comfortable for our customers. In regards to our home in Alaska we have not made it a Vacation Rent by Owner (VRBO) yet as it is much smaller and not on a lake or river but just a nice ranch home in the woods of Alaska.

Nice House with Lots of Space!

  • 4 of 5

My family of 14 rented this house for a week. All in all, it was great!! The house is roomy -- we loved the open floor plan upstairs. We never felt cramped at all. We were a little disappointed that each bedroom didn't have a television, and the tv in the downstairs bedroom wasn't working. The driveway is a little tricky if you have a boat with a trailer -- it was worse for us -- we had two boats and two trailers, but we managed and it wasn't a big deal. It would have been helpful when we picked up the key if someone would have given us a lake map and told us where the nearest boat ramp was. The nice neighbors next door helped us out with that. The house is on the river, not on the main lake. I didn't realize that at the time of renting. This location was great for our fishermen in the group, but we didn't have enough room for skiing or tubing. When we arrived the water was quite dirty but cleared up within a day or so and was great! With checkout being at 10 am we washed all towels the night before our departure which makes it a little inconvenient the next morning -- we didn't even have a hand towel to use. All in all, though it was a great family vacation. We enjoyed movies, games, swimming, fishing, relaxing (a nap every afternoon)! The house is definitely a plus -- just wish it were on the main lake.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your comments about your stay at M&D’s Lake House. We are delighted you liked our Mountain Lake House located on the remote upper part of Lake Wedowee. We picked this property because of the location, which is away from the main part of the lake and heavy boat traffic as it is much safer for children playing on our dock. Concerning the lake map: when you picked up the key to the lake house you did not ask for a lake map and we assumed you knew your way around the lake. In addition in the family room located on the wall is a 24 inch by 36 inch framed wall map of Lake Wedowee with the nearest boat launch identified only ¾ of a mile from the lake house by road and just around the bend and across the lake from the property, about ¼ mile by water. The boat launch location is also identified in the property description on VRBO. We really enjoy the remote location and come to the lake to get away from everything and specifically do not want a Television in every bedroom. We come to the lake to boat, ride jet skis, fish, swim, kayak and water tube or water ski not to watch television. Thank you for your suggestion concerning towels and we now have a new policy that makes the towel situation at checkout much smoother. We believe this problem has been addressed and will not happen to any of our future quests.

Family weekend getaway

  • 5 of 5

Our family rented the house mainly just to get away together for the weekend. We had a total (off and on) of 6 adults and 8 kids/teenagers ranging in age from 2mos to 19. There was plenty of room for all of us. The adult couples all had their own king sized bedrooms and the kids had a boys bunk room and a girls bunk room. Even though it rained the whole time we were there so that we really couldn't enjoy the outdoor amenities, there was plenty to do on the inside to keep everyone busy and no one was bored or wished that they hadn't come. There were ping pong tournaments and air hockey games; we worked jigsaw puzzles, played board games, watched movies, kids played hide and seek (so much room to do this) . We just all really had a good time. Some of them even fished in the rain but didn't have any luck catching anything.

There is really nothing that you need to bring along with you other than your food and your clothes. Everything that you could want or need as far as kitchen supplies is there. There were even spices, and ziploc bags, aluminum foil, etc. Bathrooms were very spacious and had hand soap, and plenty of towels even for as many people as we had.

The only problem I had (but I am almost 60 years old with knee problems) was the steep set of stairs going to the basement where the game tables were. There was a lot of pollen on the outside furniture when we got there but my husband just hosed it all down with the hose . Being from the area I know that you can hose it one day and it is back the next so that really wasn't a complaint, just an observation.

My family loved, loved, loved the house and they are all ready to go back and spend a whole week the next time. They said they would rather go her than the beach. Too bad it is already booked the week that we wanted to do so but maybe we can do it again another time soon. Thank you so much for offering your house up to us. It is a beautiful place.

HELPFUL HINT: We strongly recommend bringing an ice chest for your cold beverages and foods. A common complaint is that refrigerators are not working properly. 99% of time, when renters arrive they pack refrigerators with hot drinks and food; then open the refrigerator every 15 minutes of so before it has time to cool the contents. It is also wise to bring plastic garbage bags, paper towels, toilet paper, dish washing soap, dish washer machine detergent, laundry detergent, fabric softener and beach towels.
