This is a beautiful, dramatic apartment in the Latin Quarter (5th arrondissement) on the Left Bank of Paris. It is located high above the Boulevard Saint Germain by Rue Saint Jacques and is just a short stoll from the Notre Dame Cathedral. It is opposite the Cluny museum of the middle ages and near to the famous Sorbonne University. This area abounds with shops, restaurants, and Cafes. The Place Saint Michel, the Sorbonne, the Left Bank of the Seine, the Ile Saint Louis, the Ile de la Cite, Notre Dame Cathedral, and the Saint Germain des Pres district are all within an easy stroll. The Cluny-La Sorbonne metro is just next to the building and the RER C line to Charles de Gaulle airport is a block away.
Located on the 7th floor (with elevator) of a beautiful building right at the corner of the Blvd. St. Germain and the rue St. Jacques, this apartment has two portable A/C units that can be used in the bedrooms or moved around as needed. It is high above the street activity, has triple light exposure and views over Paris. It is fully renovated with unusually striking design and has an interesting collection of large framed efin de sieclei French art pieces on the walls. The large living room and dining area have beautiful hardwood floors and wonderful light, getting the sun for most of the day. The double-glazed windows minimize the city sounds. The living room has a modern comfortable Queen size sofa bed, two easy chairs, a small writing desk with chair, and coffee table. The dining area is furnished with a wood dining table with chairs. There is also cable TV, Stereo hi-fi, DVD player, DSL Internet access with Wi-Fi, and full domestic equipment (hair dryer, vacuum cleaner, iron and ironing board, etc.).
The modern designer kitchen is all new and is fully tiled with refrigerator, combination oven/microwave/grill, four gas burners, sink, dishwasher, clothes washer/dryer, and plenty of cupboard space.
The main bedroom has a Queen size bed, built in bookshelves, an en suite shower, and a separate toilet w/basin. This bedroom also has a portable air conditioning unit that can help cool the apartment during the hotter months.
The second bedroom has a split king size bed that can be separated to make two single beds. This bedroom also has a second portable air conditioning unit that can help cool the apartment. There is also an extra single folding futon mattress in this apartment.
There is an additional separate fully tiled bathroom with a tub w/shower, basin, and toilet.
We very much enjoyed our stay in this apartment. The apartment is beautiful, comfortable, bright, nicely decorated, and well appointed. We were a couple with our twenty-something daughter and her boyfriend. The lay-out suited our needs exactly. The bedrooms were well separated, and each couple had its own private bathroom. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen, while small, worked out well. The location was great and the building was very good. The welcome person was extremely helpful and gave us a warm reception. The reservation process was easy. I would rent it again any time.
We adored this apartment. Our three children slept very comfortably, and we had our own separate room. The two bathrooms were wonderful, and the washer dryer saved us from packing too many extra clothes. We loved the rooftop views and the useful kitchen as well. The hot water was sporadic but we may not have been operating it properly. The Cluny/Sorbonne metro stop is literally out the front door, and Notre Dame is just a 5-10-minute walk away. Markets with fresh produce and a boulangerie are just down the street, and Starbucks is around the corner. Literally the best location we could have hoped for! Romain was the nicest guy and showed us everything we needed to know. Making the reservation was stress-free and the property management was very reasonable. We highly recommend this apartment to anyone interested in a struggle-free visit to the city of lights!
I would rate it excellent except for two things. Noise and the shower faucet control. OK, so if you stay in this neighborhood, expect more noise than some snooty hotel in the 7th. It is at the Sorbonne after all. A happening place. You can close the windows, but read on. I slept like a dead man with ear plugs in. The others didn't heed my advice and were bothered by sirens, loud neighbors below us and the overall traffic. To me, the noise was the buzz of this great city. Be aware that the neighbors below you might party until 4:00AM on Fridays. Call the Police if they do. Excessive noise after 10:00pm is illegal, but don't expect the gendarmes to do much about it.
The hall bath shower is extremely sensitive and either scalding hot or bitter cold. Finding a comfortable middle was a two-day process. It really needs to get fixed so you can adjust temperature and get a shower without pain.
Other than all that, the apartment is spacious, full of conveniences.and almost too comfortable to leave in the morning. But, be ready for a slow laundry process (by American standards), a very well equipped kitchen for its tiny size and incredible use of space. Yes, you can really prepare nice meals if you wish. However a couple of blocks to the north there are about 60 small cafes, diners, bistros with every kind of dining option imaginable. A happening place. Not haute cuisine, but novel and tasty French and non-French food all very well within any budget.
The apartment air conditioners are mobile heat exchange units and have to be vented to the outside our they serve no real purpose. Easily solved by putting the vent out a window. However, that opens the place to more street noise. If it is hot (it was) you just about have to run the AC and enjoy the noise. TV, CD player, etc. all there and plenty of space to just recline and rest.
A Monoprix (full-scale grocery) two short blocks away, Specialty food shops within two blocks, Two metro lines nearby - Cluny/Sorbonne going generally east-west right at the doorstep and St. Michelle about 8 minutes away going generally north-south, Perfect.
Two couples (two seniors, two in late 40s) had a great time and personally, I would go back there again.
Finally, the operation's management was very helpful and everything between me & them was a breeze. I would gladly use them again.
This apartment worked out perfectly for four women traveling together. The location can not be beat. Great for walking to many locations including walks along the Seine. Close to the metro and ample taxis at the nearby taxi stand. The restaurants in the area are fabulous. The seafood restaurant right next door was a wonderful experience. The apartment was exactly as described. We would highly recommend this apartment for your visit to Paris.
I stayed here with 3 other girlfriends and we enjoyed everything this apartment had to offer, great location, spacious, clean and very comfortable. Ken, the manager, was very nice, informative and helpful. The Metro station is literally 20 feet from the front door of the building! I would recommend this apartment to anyone who wants the quintessential Paris experience.
This apartment is in a great location. Subway stop right outside the front door. Lots of sights within walking distance, If you look off the main streets you can find great local restaurants with outstanding food. The apartment was clean and decorated with very nice art work. The kitchen is small but functional. Ken, the manager met us when we arrived and was very helpful and attentive during our stay. He is a pleasure to work with. Lots of activity on the street. So with the windows open you will hear some street noise. But worth it for the location. My Good rating rather than excellent is because of a small shower in master, and I would like a better kitchen. The elevator holds 2-3 people, so I used the stairs a lot. 6 stories of climbing, mild exercise so I don't mind.
