This spectacular Woodstock estate home is ideal for a family or group vacations, retreats, weddings, or other special events. The 6,000+ square foot contemporary house has six bedrooms each with its own full bath; an indoor pool; a fully-equipped gym atrium with sauna, steambath, and hottub; huge gourmet kitchen and dining room with comfortable seating for twelve; and many other amenities.
The house lies at the end of a long private drive on 25 acres, including a 1/2 mile stretch of the Sawkill Stream. The landscaped area features a 1/4 acre pond, large lawn, flagstone patio and barbecue area, tire swing, fruit trees, and a berry garden. The town of Woodstock is 15 minutes walking distance away.
The master bedroom suite on the main floor has a king-sized bed, stone gas-log fireplace, sitting area, cable television, and a window seat overlooking the pond. Across the hall is another large bedroom with king-sized bed and television. The upstairs level has four more large bedrooms, one with a queen bed, another with a full bed. The other two bedrooms each have a pair of twin beds and their own balconies.
The house is essentially a fully-equipped luxury spa. Off the main level is an atrium with an heated saline indoor lap pool (15'x40'), with an automatic retractable pool cover that keeps the room safe and dry. The atrium also has a full seating area, ping-pong table, and wood-burning stove.
At the rear of the house is another glass atrium with two levels. The main level holds a hot tub large enough to fit 8 adults. The upper level has a full gym, with treadmill, elliptical, exercise bike, rowing machine, and weights, as well as another television. The gym also has its own full bathroom with a sauna and steam shower.
The main entertaining area includes a sunken living room with another stone gas-log fireplace; a family room with large television, massage chair, and traditional games; a dining area with a farm table that comfortably seats 12 adults; and a sun room that is our favorite room in the house.
The dining area is next to a gourmet kitchen perfect for large-scale entertaining. There is a Viking gas cooktop with six burners and a grill, a double electric oven, three dishwashers, and two Sub-Zero refrigerator freezers with icemakers, chilled drink drawers -- as well as the three sinks, microwave oven, and a vast array of cooking equipment.
A Sonos wireless system provides music in the living room, pool atrium, and on outdoor speakers. Three wireless routers provide high-speed internet throughout the house as well.
The house is owned, and frequently used, by a family in Westchester, NY. Our amazing caretaker Tracy acts as a virtual concierge available to respond to any problems. As the owners have dogs and cats, we would not recommend the house to anyone with serious allergies; on the other hand, renters are welcome to bring dogs, who will have a great time.
PLEASE NOTE: NO SMOKING ALLOWED
My friends and I booked this house for a weekend. The property manager kept in contact with me and made sure that everything was up to date on payments. Also, the payment schedule was very flexible. They worked with me and the house was everything they described it to me and more! It is definitely our money's worth. The house was very clean and well kept. I even scheduled a visit prior to my event and it was impressive. Everything worked very well and it housed everyone who came. My friends were a little worried about the size of the place (if it was too small) and after much verbal assurance, they entered the house and was absolutely stunned at the size and decor. We had an awesome time and would definitely recommend it to everyone!
I first booked this house for the weekend of February 20-22, 2015 all the way back in October 2014. The homeowner communicated and worked with me very well and payments were always adjustable and manageable. They were also extremely understanding.
A couple of friends and I threw a small party at the house and everyone was very impressed at the size and grandeur of the house. The house had everything we needed, in the same fashion as the homeowners had explained and described to us. The house was open for me to just walk in beforehand to look around. The property is beautiful and we would all love to visit again. We definitely got our money's worth!
I would highly suggest taking a look & booking this house!!
First, wanted to extend my gratitude to Tracy who is the property manager for this property. She was very responsive and patient with answering all my questions. We ended up driving through a rain storm which caused us to be unexpectedly 2 1/2 hours later when we initially told her but she was still smiling and happy that we just got there safely to let us into the property. Upon arrival, everything was super clean and organized and as guests we certainly felt like she went above and beyond what you can expect for a rental house. Towels were laid where needed. The kitchen was spotless. The beds were all well made and clean.
Next, the house. The house is amazing. The property owners should be proud of such an amazing property they own. I was with a large group of friends and even though there was 15 of us and there was so much room that we had to spend some time looking for someone if they weren't around! But that's not to say there isn't enough room for all of us to hang around. Infact, there was plenty of room around the dining table for all of us to share a meal together which is hard to do with such a large group. FYI - the kitchen is well designed and has lots of room for cooking. I believe over time groups have randomly left kitchen tools and cooking things since there was a ridiculously vast selection of tools you can use (forgot tongs at home...don't worry there's at least 5 here). They even had a Thermapen in the drawers!
The yard was spectacular and spacious. We played a large game of Wiffleball out there without needing to compromise space. The pictures do not do the pool justice...we fit 10 grown adult men in there at one point and we only took up maybe 1/3 of the pool. The hot-tub/sauna/steam/exercise rooms were great additions for the weekend. There was just so variety to this house that everyone had a great time.
Rarely do I find rentals matching or come close to the description of their listing. This rental really exceeds the expectation from this listing. I just hope the owners continue to rent this place to responsible groups so that we can come back and enjoy this place again in the future.
I hosted my brother's bachelor party here this past weekend and it far exceeded our expectations. I wouldn't be surprised if this house was featured on TV at one point as it leaves quite the impression. Every door reveals something new and there are tons of things to occupy your time inside the house. Plenty of sleeping options (beds, couches, blow-up mattresses, etc.) for the 14 guys we had there over the weekend.
The front yard was big enough that we were able to do all our outdoor activities there and the speakers were outdoors as well so the party could continue. I cooked up a storm with my buddies and it was easy with all the space and appliances. Oh, and there are (3) dishwashers!
The owners are more than generous with the use of their house, tools, and supplies. When the fire alarm went off (cooking without the vent on...) the caretaker called us immediately and guided me through to shut it off and what to tell the fire marshal. The fun facts in the booklet in the kitchen were a hit too (there used to be a helipad on the grounds!).
Now the brief negatives: the house isn't brand spanking new, but it has a lot of character. It's someone else's house, not a hotel, so be sure to respect that. For the price, you'd think you are in a hotel, but I'd rather take the freedom and color of a place like this. Some exterior panels have broken off, but it's purely aesthetic and some of the doors are a tad questionable. It's a lot of house, which takes a long time to tidy up and clear out. You need an owners manual for the lighting since there are SO MANY switches. The ping pong paddles are ancient, but whatever...
We rented this house to gather over christmas. The house was sorely in need of a handyman but after I mentioned problems on the first and second day to the caretaker with nothing done I stopped making her aware of the problems and chose to give her a list of all the issues we had while there. Here are some of our email exchanges.
From us: Though the house and property are beautiful there are definitely some problems that should not be an issue in a house for this price. Some are actually dangerous particularly the stool, fire extinguisher and unadjusted subzero. Here is a list of the problems we have found over our 2 days.
Built in coffee maker broken
Handle from sun room comes out of door
Glass in tv cabinet falls out
Area of the hottub where water goes into filter is not attached
Bar stool broken and dangerous
Wooden vent grate broken
One of the upstairs shower control is broken and impossible to adjust temperature
Left downstairs bedroom bathroom smells like sewage
Multiple toilets rock
Beer cans around the property
Subzeros should really be adjusted so they don't move and are easier to open.
Amped wireless didn't work at all
Sonos only worked in the living room
Steam room wouldn't work.
Power on bike in gym doesn't work
DVD player remote is missing and hard to get to play anything.
Fire extinguisher is kitchen is empty and says recharge.
Multiple light bulbs are out or missing.
I assume the owners would rather we mention this directly than in a review of the property. For the high cost our experience should have been better.
Response:I as well as the owners understand your issues. We both apologize for that. Some of the issues are just things that come with renting and some just happen for reasons out of our control. The issues that you have mentioned have never been an issue before. If you would have called me I would have come over to fix. We have rectified your issues and hope you will be back in the future.
I emailed back mentioning that I had contacted the her with no one coming over to fix anything and that some of the issue were a safety hazard (broken chairs, empty fire extinguisher and moving fridges) and that we should get a discount since we had so many problems.
Ultimately they gave me $100 off per night and returned $200 that we paid for higher pool heat. I said they should do better, response was
"The owners won't budge.. They said they will live with one bad review ..."
It was such a great vacation, my family and I, including our dog, had a relaxing vacation, my kids enjoyed every inch of the pool and the rest of the house as well. My husband went skiing to Hunter three days of our stay, we had company and they also couldn't believe how great the house was, we cannot wait to plan our next stay!
