Captiva Island House Rental Photos and Description

4 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 4 Baths, (Sleeps 8-10)

Bird of Paradise offers a luxurious escape from the non-stop hustle of everyday life. Whether you're looking for a quick, quiet getaway or a month-long adventure, this modern home is the perfect vacation destination for relaxing and making lasting memories. Our guests book their vacations year after year as the Bird of Paradise has become their tropical home away from home.

Located at 11525 Chapin Lane, a three-story home nestled within Captiva's lush vegetation, Bird of Paradise makes you feel secluded within your vacation oasis, yet it's within just a short stroll to Village Center where you'll find quaint shops, fresh produce, art galleries, restaurants and activities for all ages.

The home's main living level is on the second floor and features all the warmth, comforts and conveniences of home. The great room features a 20-foot, exposed beam ceiling and a comfortable family gathering and dining area. Adjacent to the fully-equipped kitchen is a screened-in lanai for quiet morning coffee while listening to the sounds of indigenous wildlife and waves softly crashing on the shore. Two guest rooms and two baths complete the second story with the spacious master suite on the third level overlooking the great room.

Bird of Paradise is just three homes away from the pristine, white sand beach and clear blue waters of the Gulf of Mexico. This child-safe walk down Palm-covered Chapin Lane takes you by the island's library and just past the Chapel by the Sea - for those seeking a destination wedding.

And when you've had your fill of gulf-side sunning and beachcombing, the home's four outside decks, some with screen enclosure, are perfect settings for a refreshing cocktail and conversation before dinner, quiet time, relaxation or reading. Also enjoy the seclusion of the home's large heated pool and its spacious deck; the area is enclosed from the elements and ideal for early evening cat naps or early morning swims.

Guestbook comments from the manager

My family and I traveled from Germany for our tradition of holiday on the island. We have stayed in 6 different Captiva homes and the Bird of Paradise is by far our favorite. The huge pool with bubbler was a big added plus. Quiet street, short walk to town and water. We are booking again for next year. It was lovely meeting the owners, Michele and Dan as well. We will be back again and again.

Comfortable as home, quiet but close to everything

  • 5 of 5

The house itself is as comfortable as being at your home: the furnishings are high quality, and not the usual beach house white and pastel but more like what you would have in a nice comfortable home. It is well stocked from the kitchen to pool and beach toys and chairs to nice quality linens and games and videos. Electronically you could not ask for more: plenty of TV's and wifi that has a massive capacity. We had two boys gaming online, one of us cruising the internet and one streaming ESPN3 simultaneously without the slightest hesitation. The covered ground floor is fully stocked with a pool table, ping pong and foosball as well as a grill. I grilled dinner while shooting pool- not too shabby. The bedrooms are all well appointed with great mattresses and closet space. And the multiple porches around the house allow you to watch sporadic passersby on the street or hide among the tropical canopy and relax.

The location is perfect. We were here during the crazy busy Christmas to New Years week and would never have known it unless we walked the two short blocks to Andy Rosse and the Village. Our street was quiet the entire time. The walk to the beach is short and easy, as is the walk to the Mucky Duck and all the island restaurants.

Finally, the owner is fabulously nice, responsive an very easy to deal with. I will book again without hesitation and as my very first choice.

2 family getaway

  • 5 of 5

Visited Captiva with close friends and could not have found a better house. 4 adults and 4 kids with room for 2 more people. House ideally laid out for families with kids. Master BR with king and bath is huge. 2nd bedroom with queen very nice with own bath. 1 BR with 2 twins and hall bath right next door. Downstairs BR has room for 4 kids plus its own bath. Well stocked kitchen for anyone looking to cook in (we did for most meals). Home is stocked with games (including poker chips), movies (some older as well as current), and books. Personal touches throughout, really felt like you were visiting a friends house. Pool is great, warm, and lots of seating around it for everyone. Beach is just 3 houses down and Andy Rosse Lane is just a couple minute walk, and everything on the island is walkable. Parking for 2 cars, but little need for one unless you plan on going to Sanibel or Fort Myers. House also has plenty of beach chairs, a wagon to help carry things to the beach, a large cooler. Very quiet street with little traffic. Homeowner recommended some restaurants which were fantastic. Sunshine Seafood Café should not be missed. Looking for beach adventures, head to Yolo Watersports on Andy Rosse Lane. And do not miss the sunsets

Great Girls' Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

4 girls celebrating a friend's 65th birthday...and this home couldn't have been more perfect for our trip. The home is in a great location. The owner Michele was very nice to work with and offered great suggestions on things to do. You can walk to most things, and the beach is very close. The home is clean and comfortable. We spent our time near the pool or in the living room. Captain Nelson of Jensen's Water Taxi took us by boat to Pine Island and Cabbage Key. Don't miss the crab races at Tween Waters...loads of fun! If you want to relax by the pool or get out and explore Florida, this is a great place to stay.

Restful and relaxing

  • 5 of 5

My family has spent several summers on the island and our favorite rental home is the bird of paradise. It has all the comfort of home, but it is truly a vacation get-away from our busy day to day lifestyle. The home is quiet, clean and has everything my family needs to enjoy ourselves. It is a short walk to the beach and to the excellent island shops and restaraunts. The pool is our favorite after we have spent time on the beautiful beach and hunting shells. I highly recommend this property to anyone.

As Good As It Gets

  • 5 of 5

Everything about this house and its setting turned out to be even more pleasant that we could have anticipated. The house is spacious and lends itself to be occupied not just by a family but also by a number of couples. At the house, the pool and porches and other outdoor amenities offer hours of fun and diversion. Away from the house, it is an easy walk to the beach, several oustanding restaurants, grocery store, and more. One can enjoy activity or leisure in whatever proportions one chooses. That tends to define just what a real vacation ought to be.
