I was born and raised in Michigan and currently live on the Big Island of Hawaii (for 27 years now). Summer in Northern Michigan is a paradise all its' own. I grew up in Lansing but Beulah was my Father's home town and our place for year round adventures. I've lived in San Diego, Tokyo and now Hawaii and Michigan still takes up a great space in my heart. We hope you'll come stay with us soon.
People dream of coming to Hawaii and I still dream about visiting Northern Michigan where I spent so much time as a youngster in my father's home town of Benzonia and Beulah. My boyhood adventures in this area from hiking, exploring and fishing to boating, swimming and hunting are still fresh in my memory and hopefully you can experience some of these as well!
Guy LaGuire purchased this house in 2008
I bought this home because Northern Michigan has so much to offer in it's beauty, activities and peacefulness. If there is a heaven on earth this area is it for me! And, hey...I live in Hawaii so that's saying something.
Walking distance to Crystal Lake and all conveniences in downtown Beulah and short driving distances to many of the attractions in the area including Lake Michigan, Sleeping Bear Dunes (recently rated the #1 vacation destination on the continental USA on Good Morning America. All kinds of lakes and rivers to boat, fish, ski, or Kayak. Many great golf courses all around the area including Arcadia Bluffs, Champion Hills, Mistwood and more. Morning or evening walks in and around the downtown Beulah area with family and friends make for a relaxing atmosphere that vacations are meant to be.
Thanks for an unforgettable week! We had a blast! The house was ideal for us with plenty of space to move around and not be cramped. Beulah is centrally located and no more than 15 minutes to Frankfort and Lake Michigan. And with Crystal Lake just 1 1/2 blocks away it was an added bonus. The weather was amazing.
We will definitely be back and will recommend this place to our friends!
I was so happy to have stayed (3 weeks) at Crystal Manor during my first trip to Michigan. The location is very convenient whether it was a walk to town, a stroll by the lake or a run/bike on scenic Betsie Valley Trail. The newly upgraded furniture, kitchenware and flatscreen TV made our stay even more comfortable. The extra large yard and campfire pit is great for relaxing outdoors right on the property. The owner and property manager were very personable and attentive. We're already planning our next trip to Crystal Manor to enjoy the fall colors again this year!
This was our third year renting this location and it never gets old. The city is fantastic and the cottage has everything you could ask for. The double lot with its fire pit made it the perfect place to enjoy the evenings. Looking forward to many many years of renting this cottage. Just a seamless transaction from the time we arrived until the day we unfortunately had to go back to reality.
The location to town makes the home a perfect place. No car is needed to get into town and do some shopping or have a nice dinner at one if the restaurants.
Highly recommend this place for any person or family looking to get away.
We recently visited the area to see the Fall colors. A very short walk to Crystal Lake, the public beach, and the Betsie Valley Trail. The furniture and updates are very nice.
I hesitated to write a review for this house because I am making an effort to be a positive person and because the owner and manager were very accommodating. However, I thought it would only be fair to let others who are considering renting this house know what they can expect to encounter.
The main reason I rented this house was because the owner agreed to rent to me from Sun. to Sun. - most other owners wouldn't do that. I was, however, skeptical because the pictures of the outside were not very inviting and unfortunately I found the inside to be the same. The pictures don't really show the house as it is today with regard to the curtains, bedspreads and some of the furniture. The television didn't work, the kitchen has no counter space (which may not concern some people on vacation) and we had to deal with an ant invasion near and around the kitchen sink. The house is actually more than one block from the beach which is still very nice, however the street is at a pretty steep incline. Going to the beach was an easy walk but returning was somewhat of a challenge. Again, this may not be an issue for everyone; I just thought it might be an issue for some people. Despite these concerns, my biggest issue was with cleanliness.
There were positive aspects and it wouldn't be fair not to mention those. As I stated earlier, the owner and manager were very pleasant and accommodating, we enjoyed using the fire pit in the evening, the washer and dryer worked well as did the refrigerator and fairly new stove. Even though we didn't park in the garage it was great for storing all the bicycles, beach toys, lawn chairs and miscellaneous items in at night.
In summary, there are pros and cons for this rental; whether or not you should rent this house depends on which of those issues are most important to you.
Sleeping Bear Dunes just 1/2 hour away!!! Named the #1 destination in the United States by Good Morning America.
Lake Michigan less than 7 miles away. Beautiful beach in Frankfort and great fishing off the Pier
