Yes, it's a 1970-built, ranch-style house BUT with lots of windows, the sunlight always lighting and warming this southwesternly-exposed home (passive solar) in the winter. Such a comfortable, easy home to be in. Walls are opened up to show off the view, no small rooms, new furniture, new fixtures and kitchen appliances, tiled walk-in shower. A tear-drop shaped rock-stamped patio added near the full-house-length deck makes outside living at Cloud 9 in the mountains an energy experience you won't forget.
What can families do outside on Cloud 9 Farm?
HOT TUB with a view on the deck! Hike the trails to our highest peak: “Buzzard’s Roost”, feed the chickens and cows, enjoy a picnic at Peterson Pond, swim, fish or paddle boat, and watch for birds, wild turkeys and deer, pick in the garden or munch on blueberries in the summer. And, if you want, help with farm chores, too. It's like going back in time to a simpler way of life. No traffic noise, no street lights, no power lines, no neighbors. Quiet.
Wi-Fi, Large Screen TV with DISH network, puzzles and games (board and video), professional size air hockey table, enjoy the views in every room, one step in. Great light for reading your tablet. Plus a library full of books from gardening to wellness.
By staying on Cloud 9 Farm you are supporting the conservation stewardship of the land and animals. Tours of our 'best management practices' available. On-site farm products for sale in season: chicken, beef, honey from our pollinator hives on the farm, blueberries, raspberries and vegetables in season, natural skin care products, too. Hair Salon opportunity in proprietor’s home on the property.

Janet here, your hostess, and conservation farmer owner/manager (with lots of help) of one little valley of Fairview, North Carolina. Our sing-along slogan is 'Beds, Berries, Trees, Beef and Honey Bees and don't forget the chickens' which says it all about what you can find on Cloud 9 Farm. These are my many interests and passions which I invite you to share with me as you step back in time for a visit to a simpler way of life on Cloud 9 Farm.
Janet Peterson purchased this house in 2004
I DIDN'T buy this property, it is my family home to share with you. We refurbished the mountain top, retirement Cloud 9 Relaxation Home for families up to 6 and built Heavenly Hideaway, a cozy cabin, for couples, too. Both have hot tubs on an open deck under the stars. Just 8 miles from I-40, you can be at the Biltmore Estate, Grove Park Inn, the Blue Ridge Parkway, Chimney Rock, Lake Lure, and the waterfalls of Dupont State Forest in 15 minutes. Quiet and private.
Where does the owner live? Florida? Texas? California? Are you kidding me? I live on this beautiful property, too.
Asheville is just 15 minutes away for a soiree into town...a delectable meal or a great, day-excursion, especially to the Biltmore Estate, but vacation renters find that they never really have to leave the farm because there is enough to do right here; hiking, enjoying the valley pond area, picking blueberries in July, or just sitting on the huge deck (or in the hot-tub) over-looking the mountains and relaxing. The layout of Cloud 9 is very outside-friendly with sliding glass doors in every room to open with natural light and get that fresh mountain air. Views, views, views! Come see for yourself!
7 of us and 2 dogs from Greensboro, NC, Atlanta, GA, Raleigh, NC and South Africa!
Thank you for sharing your space for a wonderful weekend and family gathering to celebrate birthdays and enjoy being together! All the best.
My husband and I rented Heavenly Hideaway for a week with our 2 German short haired pointers. We absolutely love this charming cabin with lots of privacy. We have also rented Cloud 9, which I call the big house, and loved it too. We decided the second time around we didn't need quite as much space. We love the close proximity to Asheville for shopping, good eats, and good bars, but most people would probably be content staying on the property all the time. There is a lovely hiking trail right on the property about 3 miles round trip. We also really enjoy walking around the farm and feeding the cows and chickens. One of the best parts is being able to bring our dogs. We bring them inside when we are at the cabin, but we leave them in the outside fenced and covered kennel with dog house when we leave. The property owner is on site, and is very friendly and accommodating. We come to Asheville quite a lot for vacation and will not stay anywhere else since we have found this amazing place!
We found Cloud Nine Farms last year through VRBO and just loved Heavenly Hideaway. We came back this past summer and then again for our 35th Anniversary. It was wonderful and so relaxing. We were also able to bring our dogs who enjoyed visiting the cows. Our dogs enjoyed the walks and exploring just as much as we did. It's quiet but also close enough to run into Asheville or go to the Biltmore . Thank you Janet for sharing your piece of heaven with us :)
My husband and I spent our 10th anniversary at Heavenly Hideaway Cabin. It was our fourth time staying. It is consistently clean and well stocked. Owner very hospitable. Eggs are delicious. Very private. Quick drive to the bars and restaurants. We love the property!
A beautiful relaxing Christmas family get away. The place and beauty of the farm was amazing. We loved the Biltmore at Christmas and hiking on the property and nearby at DuPont Forest.
The hot tub and the views were spectacular. We enjoying resting and relaxing.
We SO enjoyed our vacation at Cloud 9! Between the views & the hands on farm fun my kiddos enjoyed, it may have been the best yet.
Directions to the farm were spot on & we had no trouble finding it at night. We awoke to stunning views through the living room & beautiful leaves. And the distance from town is no lie! It is truly a 15minute drive and allowed us the joy of country living while still being close enough to enjoy the amazing restaurants in Asheville.
I'd recommend this place for those who enjoy being outside as there are several trailheads, a pond stocked with fish, cows to visit, blueberry & raspberry picking, chickens to feed, wild turkeys that come through morning & evening, and a host who is always willing to show you around & teach the kiddos a few things about farm life! You don't even need to leave the property.
Janet could not have done a better job playing hostess. Being a retired teacher, she was excellent with the kids, and they were thrilled to learn so much from her. Without being intrusive, she was such a delightful presence & available for anything we needed.
While the highlight is most definitely the outdoors, the indoors was comfortable & accommodating as well. We had six adults, two kids, and two babies stay and it was more than enough room. On our last day there we even discovered a treasure trove of toys in the basement along with an air hockey table! A lot of the decor is straight out of the 50's, but it's a charming little place without being too outdated.
And perhaps most importantly: the beds were very comfortable!
As far as things to do in the area: We toured Biltmore one day (but plan for two if you have the time) & it did not disappoint! Saturday mornings bring a lot of life to Asheville, so plan ahead with brunch reservations at a fun spot & bring cash for parking & little shops. And of course google "best restaurants in Asheville" and you'll find plenty of yummy spots to eat. The Mast General store was a fun place to peruse for vintage gifts & candies. My husband & his brother rented mountain bikes from Liberty Bikes & spent a day adventuring at Bent Creek. They reported beautiful views & fun trails.
If you can't tell already, I'd recommend this place to anyone (and already have!). It's a fun retreat & will not disappoint! :)
Thanks for everything Janet!
My husband and I drove ALL THE WAY from Nova Scotia with our 3 dogs to attend the UKI US Nationals - a competitive dog agility event - just a stone's throw away from Cloud 9 Relaxation!! We were fortunate enough to explore the hiking trails before the big event - but we didn't get to hike the longest trail - next time! The house was clean with so many perks - big tv, full kitchen, dishwasher, washer and dryer, multiple bedrooms...and more!!
It was such a treat to have a house all to ourselves after a long day of dog sports!! Everything was close by! The property was quiet and even had chickens (don't worry - we didn't let the dogs go near the chickens!!). We look forward to next year already!!
Most renters find Cloud 9 Relaxation Home to be the perfect respite from touring the Biltmore Estate and Chimney Rock Park because it's so close. Bird watching: pileated woodpeckers, red tailed hawks, bluebirds, wild turkeys.
