My husband & I were planning on celebrating our 40th anniversary in Hawaii, which happens to be right before Christmas. We've been to Hawaii numerous times & absolutely love it. Our son & his family had never been to Hawaii so they decided to meet us there to celebrate our anniversary and the holidays. There was a total of 6 of us staying in the house. Our grandchildren (18 & 11) loved the pool & just about lived in it when we were at the house. The layout of the house was perfect for us & the kitchen was fantastic & got lots of use. Working with Bob from the time we first contacted him to inquire about renting his home until we checked out was a pleasure. He was extremely helpful & maintained contact with us throughout the process, which was close to a year. Prior to our arrival our grandson asked if there was a BluRay player at the house. When we contacted Bob to ask him about it he said there wasn't one, however, we could buy one & he'd repay us. It turned out not to be an issue because we were so busy the entire time. Bob did tell me that he was having some put in after we left. Once we were in the house, Liz came by to meet us and provided info on a variety of things, including some great places to eat. We actually had our anniversary dinner at one of the restaurants she recommended. The beach was beautiful & most of the time it was like we had our own private beach. There's plenty of things at the house for the pool & beach so you don't need to bring a thing. Best vacation experience we've had & we've traveled to many places in the U.S., Europe & the Caribbean. Mahalo Bob for sharing your beautiful home with us. Also to Liz for her help & recommendations.
Taking some time to reflect back on 2014, and this exceptional vacation rental in Kailua was one of the highlights of our year.
From the very start of our search for a home to stay in we were impressed with the communication from the owners. Bob was always prompt and very accommodating, but what always stood out for us was his kindness and sense of humour. This was driven home when a few days in to our stay Hurricane Iselle was headed toward the Hawaiian Islands and warnings were issued for all of the islands. Bob made contact with us every single day leading up to what turned out to be a non-event for Oahu. His kindness and concern for our well being helped us through a few nervous moments - we particularily appreciated his calming words and enjoyed his sense of humour. He continued to be in contact with us even after the threat passed - we truly, truly appreciated hearing from him. Because of him, we knew what to do if something might have happened - he was more a friend through it all rather than a property manager/owner.
Then there is the house - spectacular! It was as described on the listing information, only so much better! We have stayed in other vacation rentals, and they have been very nice, but they were vacation rentals. This was like renting a home. We were able to use everything that was in the house - what impressed us was the wide variety of things to use. We were able to prepare our meals like we were in our own home. We spent many enjoyable hours in the beautiful back yard, barbecuing pool side.
The location of the property - ahhh, beautiful! It was located on a private lane, steps from the beach. And I would have to say, perhaps the nicest beach we visited while we were there. The sand - silken and soft - I can still feel it in my toes when I close my eyes. Close to ammenities, an excellent, excellent spot for sure!
I would highly recommend this property to anyone visiting Oahu. Great owners, great home, outstanding location...this had everything we had been looking for and then some. Thanks so much to Bob for all of the Aloha!
My family of 4 and relatives (for a total of 8) stayed at this Kailua house rental for Christmas and New Year's. The house exceeded our expectations. The master suite and bathroom - felt like I was at a 5 star hotel. The upscale kitchen was outstanding and heavily used. The salt water pool and 3D TV's amenities are better than any hotel in Oahu would provide. We hosted dinners for 16 people with ease - plenty of housewares and the grill was in excellent condition. The close proximity of the beach from the house was the icing on the cake. I've stayed at another house rental on Kailua (also 100 yards from beach), but Bob's property was superior to it in every category.
The neighbors that live on this street always displayed the aloha spirit to us.
Bob's communication from start to finish was awesome and his house instructions was very clear. There was more than enough supplies (towels, beach towels, toilet paper, etc..) for our stay and Bob let us use everything available in his kitchen panty.
He and Liz answered all my questions quickly and were more than willing to help me on any issues we encountered.
All the relatives that came by for dinners were in awe of the house and wished they could stay there as well.
I would not hesitate to rent this property again when I vacation in Oahu.
The listing for this home was exactly as described. Our family loved the pool and the great proximity to the beach. We wouldn’t hesitate to rent this home again for a family vacation. Working with the owners was very easy and an enjoyable process. We appreciate all the information we received before our trip to make a memorable vacation. Thank you!!!
We stayed at this house in Kailua for just over two weeks in late May and early June. Our party was six people; we the grand-parents, the parents and their two children aged 3 and 5 years. The house is located in a very quiet neighborhood and accessible via a private road. The house is absolutely fabulous; it has plenty of space inside and outside. The two master bedrooms and the extra bedroom are all very comfortable with their own bathrooms. The grandchildren enjoyed the occasional TV fix in the den or the upstairs master bedroom. The kitchen is gorgeous and fully equipped. It was also stocked with gourmet spices and a lot of other supplies that we could use free of charge. I think at least every second day we had a BBQ on a super grill outside. It was easy to shop as grocery stores were close.
The beach is reached through a locked gate only a few houses down the road. This has to be one of the nicest beaches in Oahu. The beach is gentle in slope which made it ideal for the kids to play and jump waves. We also loved to take a stroll along the beach. Afterwards, the pool was inviting for a swim; the temperature was a cozy 85 degF all the time. The kids, and the big kids, spent a lot of time in this pool. I should mention that buggy boards and snorkeling equipment was all available for use. The older of the grandchildren learnt how to snorkel in this pool and then also in a tidal pool on the west side of Oahu – now she wants to learn scuba diving.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful home. We had a wonderful vacation and hopefully some day, I am sure, we would like to return for another vacation. We can highly recommend your home to anybody seeking an enjoyable and relaxing vacation in paradise.
Thank you so much for sharing your home with us!
We had a wonderful family vacation/post honeymoon for 9 days; we arrived on Thanksgiving ’12 evening. This ‘hale’ offered everything we were looking for and more.
The house was so warm and inviting for us all, so many amenities, i.e. Washer/Dryer, bbq grill, gourmet kitchen well stocked with all the things you would ever need, pool with beach/pool toys, garage (especially to those who has been to anywhere in Hawaii knows how parking can be, it’s a blessing), lanai, (Beautiful especially for my husband for bird watching in the morning). I can go on but you will have to visit and judge yourself, (the pictures does not do it justice to what this ‘hale’ has to offer). We loved how the house is on a private lane and was a short walk to a breathtaking beach (our favorite beach on the whole island) through a private entryway.
Bob, (owner) could not have been a better host than if he had been there himself. He left contact information and left line of communication open at all times even though the time difference to ensure our stay was comfortable and well prepared in any way if we should come across problems or any other matter.
Liz, property manager welcomed us with a pineapple, the following day after our arrival, was amazing and could not have been more accommodating with everything and was a great deal of help with our entire stay. She managed to replace a tv and installed it since the previous one had conk out.
The neighborhood is a gem. A short drive to 24hr grocery/drug store, mall with some named places, restaurants Boots & Kimo, we loved Cinnamons for brunch. All the amenities nearby so you will never really have to venture out unless you want to do the touristy stuff on the other sides of the island.
The Kaneohe Ranch north of us for ATVing had tours of Jurassic Park movie areas etc., also the Macadamia Nut Farm, free samples of coffee and flavored mac nuts… my favorite kona coated mac nuts, just to name a few places we’ve been to while on the east side.
For luaus, I recommend Chief’s Luau best one for families (in the Sea Life Park aquarium) just south of us. They had activities before the show and dinner.
If you want to stay away from the touristy areas, short 30 minute drive to downtown Waikiki. (I recommend driving along the coastline). I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this home to anyone looking for a great stay in Kailua! (Obama stays in Kailua, so it must be good).
Overall it was just
Kailua is the garden spot of Oahu. You will love it as much as we do, and we think that it is paradise.
