The stunning Napa wine country estate above the clouds is perched on top of Spring Mountain ridge with spectacular 275 degree views 15 minutes from downtown St. Helena. Surrounded by 40 gated acres of vineyards & forests, this property is serenely quiet. Relax, Unwind & Experience the gorgeous Sunrises and Sunsets!
This 5,500+ square foot, 'arts & crafts' style house is built entirely out of old-growth redwood, (even the floors and ceilings). There is a lot of artwork, making it a very unique home- unlike any other generic rental house you will see. Above all, its a very special experience. For wine lovers, there are several famous boutique wineries within walking distance.
We have a one week min. rental in the summer months and prefer Saturday to Saturday rentals but sometimes make exceptions.
We are vintners but spend a lot of time in Europe...
Its like no other property. Very private & unique. Great energy. Total Serenity. Not a typically generic vacation rental. This house has soul.
My wife and I plus 3 other couples recently spent a week at Estate Above The Clouds. The first words out of my mouth when we arrive was "wow, what a view". The group was together to celebrate my 50th birthday and of course, explore some wineries. We were a little nervous when we first got to the house because it seemed to be remote, but once we started to explore we realized how much there is to see and enjoy right on Spring Mountain - several beautiful wineries and picnic spots are within walking distance. We had a grand time with the Smith brothers, an unbelievable picnic at Pride Mountain, fabulous tours/tastings at Cain and Seven & Eight and several visits to Charbay where we enjoyed hanging out and drinking port with John. We will definitely recommend this house to friends and family who plan to visit Napa or Sonoma.
A group of friends and I rented this property for a long weekend and couldn't have been happier with it. It's an absolutely stunning location with amazing views from the pool area, the deck (including the hot tub) and bedrooms. The kitchen had great cookware for our culinary whizzes. The family that rents this home was friendly and easy to work with and very accommodating.
The location is a bit remote (about 15 minutes up a winding mountain road), so I might not recommend it for people who want to be making frequent trips out and about in the surrounding area, but the seclusion is a benefit in every other way. A special place.
A gated, mountain top estate, surrounded by vinyards, with sweeping views of the valley below from nearly every window. The private, park-like grounds offer numerous opportunities for reflection while the pool, spa, decks & patio easily accomodate friends and family. In high end rentals sometimes the homes can be stunning yet sterile. This house is filled with a sense of wonder and wimsy that only an artist could have concieved. A good glass of wine should warm both the palate and the soul, this home is a very good glass of wine.
After renting homes up and down Napa Valley and trying each side of the Silverado Trail, my wife and I were fortunate enough to find this property beginning in 2008 and it is as good as it gets .There is a warmness and sense of style here which reflects both the personality of its owners and how the property was used to raise a beautiful family. Residence is large enough to sleep eight comfortably but also intimate enough to be perfect for one couple to enjoy . Other reviewers have already touched on many of the property's amenities. Other attractive features I would add include the mile out to the primary road, providing plenty of room for energetic walks with your well-behaved dogs and watching them flush quail out of the brush. One will also never tire from reading by the pool, drinking wine from the more than four award-winning wineries within walking distance and gazing out over one of the finest views of Napa Valley(star gazing at night is incredible!) . We have entertained numerous friends at the house who live year-round in the area and they all comment on how special this place is . A visit here is worth every penny.
The only reason we are not looking forward to our trip to the Dordogne next summer is that we will miss another summer at the Estate Above the Clouds. We have been coming to Spring Mountain (St. Helena) for the past six years, and this has been one of the most memorable trips we have had. The house is well-maintained, clean and rationally organized. Each bedroom has a unique aesthetic. The kitchen is designed for dedicated cooks. All of the appliances are top quality. The property is secluded, yet within easy walking distance to many prestigious wineries and an easy drive into town. (The wine produced on the property's vineyards is a rival to its neighbors.) We highly recommend this home to you, particularly if you appreciate an environ that has been developed over many years by an intelligent, unique, orderly, artistic, charming, European family.
all of us totally enjoyed our stay--it was great that each bedroom had its own bath, the large dining table overlooking the valley was a fantastic gathering point, and there was so much art to enjoy that we felt like we were living in a museum. yet, the owners were warm and helpful at every point. we hope to return again and again.
