About Shawn Mullins

My wife and I both work full time and we have 3 little red heads. We love to travel and love sharing our cabin with other people and families. We LOVE this part of Michigan and feel like it is truly God's country. We get great satisfaction when happy customers call after their stay and tell us how much they enjoyed the cabin and how beautiful it is in that part of the state. We take pride in our place and can assure you that it will be clean and comfortable!

Shawn Mullins purchased this cabin in 2008

Why Shawn Mullins chose Wellston

Our cabin is very secluded but very easy to get to. I grew up in the area and always wanted a place of my own. We love the area and all that it offers. There are 2 ski resorts, a casino, 2 spas, snowmobile trails, hiking trails, and a ton of streams and lakes all within a 20 minute drive.

What makes this cabin unique

Our property borders hundreds of acres of Manistee National Forest which can be used by renters. Tons of wildlife in the area ( turkey, deer, bear, squirrel, great bird watching, and its VERY relaxing!!

Highly Reccommend !!!

Very quiet and peaceful. Bright starry nights and cool crisp mornings - the cabin has everything you will need from heating and cookware to sheets and towels.

Rifling targets already set up, shooting off the porch keeps you dry in the rain. Comfy bed and pullaway, cozy & decorated like a hunter's dream escape.

A clean, well kept cozy cabin in northern Michigan

  • 5 of 5

I wanted to bring my son up to introduce him the hunting in the big woods of northern Mi. I love this area and have been coming here for 20 years so I know it well and I also know the days are long if you spend them in the woods. When you come back from the woods at night you don't want to worry about anything except getting a bite to eat, a hot shower and a warm dry place to sleep. I have stayed in lots of different places over the years so I feel like I can speak with experience about whats in and around Wellston. This weekend it was just my Dad and Son with me and the cabin suited us perfectly. Simple, well kept, clean, DirecTv, full kitchen and bath so it treated us very good after a day in the woods. It was also conveniently located for us so that made it even better.

A group of four will sleep comfortably and if you had a group of say like eight people and someone had a travel trailer/ pop-up camper, there is plenty of room to park it right next the cabin on a nice flat area.

We had a great weekend and brought home a beautiful Michigan 6pt buck. I would have to say this place was a definite plus and we will be coming back for sure.

Hope to see you soon, Shawn & Cassie Mullins

Awesome Cabin :)

My husband and I loved staying at this cabin for our Labor Day weekend getaway! I can be a germaphobe at times, and this cabin was immaculate! We loved the privacy, but also loved that activities were not too far away. We went wine tasting in Traverse City one day, which was only about an hour drive, and we also found some nice golf courses not too far from the cabin. We also found a fun place to canoe. The cabin itself was enough room for us, but also with the pull-out couch, we could have came with another couple or even brought our nieces for the weekend. I would definitely recommend this cabin to anyone who is looking to stay in the area, or wants a more relaxed up north getaway!

Nice cabin, great location

  • 4 of 5

The cabin location was perfect. Many small cities and Cadillac were all within easy driving distance. It's just up the road from the Big M trail head, making it a perfect staging location for the North Country race. There are many, many trails within a short distance.

The cabin itself was clean and had everything we needed. It was perfect for 2 people, and you could also using the couch in the living room for extra sleeping space for another couple. The property is large, and the cabin is set back from the road. You can hear some road noise, but you can't see any other houses.

Shawn was very quick to respond to any questions I had and was very accommodating.

Perfect family vacation!

  • 5 of 5

This was the ideal cabin for our family, which consists of two adults, two toddlers, and two lazy old dogs. I normally hate to sleep in hotel beds or use showers that are not my own, because I worry that they aren't clean. This house is immaculate and I never felt uncomfortable. Although this is a one-bedroom, there is a lot of space. The bedroom and bathroom and really good sized, and my boys loved "swimming" in the large tub. We all slept in the bedroom, so that my husband and I could watch movies or visit in the living room after the kids went to bed. We slept in the queen sized bed, and there was enough room for my 2 year old in his pack n play, and my 4 year old on the hide-a-bed.

I am from a nearby town, and it was really convenient to be able to visit my family but still have our own space. We spent one day at Sleeping Bear Dunes, which was about an hour drive. We spent another day at Portage Point beach (Lake Michigan) in Onekama, which is about a 1/2 hour away. In the evenings, we hung out at the cabin and had campfires. There is a small swing set in the yard, which my boys loved. There is also an outdoor dog kennel, which is an amazing feature. Shawn said they hadn't had a chance to do much with that yet since buying the property. It could use a little attention but seemed secure, and was something we were really excited to find.

This is getting long, but I wanted to mention all of the things that had been the most important to us. The owners are wonderful about returning phone calls and emails, and answering questions. The cabin has everything you could need for your stay- dishes, linens, etc. Just bring your clothes and food, and you will be all set. We will definitely stay here again!

Stillness and Silence

  • 5 of 5

I was looking for a lovely place secluded in the woods to do some writing. This cabin was perfect. A lovely solid handcrafted cabin with charm. And I didn’t see another soul for the three days I was there. It was a short walk to the hiking trail head the big M. The stillness and silence was a treat for this city girl. It was pitch black at night and lovely to wake up to the sunrise in what appeared to be a handcrafted solid wood framed bed. My favorite spot in the cabin was in the wood low-back rocking chair right in front of the window looking into the national forest or watching the groundhog munch on his breakfast in the yard. It was a short drive to east to the beach and several other hiking trails up the road.

Owner's Response: Hey Jen, thank you so much for the review. One of the things that visitors love the most about our cabin is the privacy. The location is perfect because you're close to all the area has to offer and yet there are no neighbors in sight. My wife and I were honored to have someone stay with us who was actually writing a book about the area. We LOVE the Wellston area and all the amazing nearby activities and we love to share our little piece of Northern Michigan with guests who come back year after year. Hope to see you in the future!
