My husband has owned and operated a hardware store in Chicago's Old Town for over 35 years, as well as served on the chamber of commerce as president + board member for many years.
I have owned + operated my interior design showroom for 16 years, and served on our neighborhood park's advisory council as president + board member for over a decade.
Combining talents, we raised 4 children and developed real estate projects from purchase + gut, to finished marketable homes.
We are now grandparents sharing the Michigan shore with another generation.
Kim Tipre purchased this chalet in 1992
When our youngest was one, we happened upon the Chalets for our first rental season. As part of the 7 unit family group, the chalets became an annual reunion.
When the lake-front unit became available for purchase, we bought. That was 20 years ago.
The care the management provides, as well as our interest in having our guests returning year after year, has made a visit to Unit 8, as well as the Chalet on the Lake Compound memorable.
How can you beat 90 miles from Chicago? Easy access off of I-90? Being surrounded by protected wetlands limits any new building on both sides of the compound, so nature surrounds us, yet a quick jump in the car offers restaurants in Stevensville, and plenty of shopping down I-90 towards + in St. Joseph.
Downtown St. Joe's has the boardwalk and summer art fair, as well as plenty of shopping, restaurants + the children's museum. Fireworks can be seen all across the lake's edge on the 4th of July.
Are you a golfer? Courses are close by. Take a tour of the vineyards, or the Cook Nuclear plant. Captain Mike's, family fun with bumper boat and go-carts, is a quick trip to Exit 16.
Take in a movie at the Cinema at Exit 29.
I personally love the down time, after an afternoon at one of the pools or beach, a game of volleyball or tennis, just to sit, listen to the waves, + let the sun warm my face. Life is slower, easier, and although I'll soon be back at work in the big city, hanging out on the Michigan shore replenishes me.
Oh, and have I mentioned the sunsets?
