House, 3 Bedrooms + Den, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 7)

Come up to Alaska and stay in our beautiful vacation home on the banks of the Kenai River, about 120 miles south of Anchorage. Enjoy the peaceful sounds of the rushing river and surrounding wildlife from the deck, fish for salmon, rainbow, and dolly varden off your private fishing dock, watch for bear, caribou and moose in the wildlife refuge across the river, cook up gourmet meals in our fully stocked kitchen with state-of-the art appliances, throw some steaks on the grill, mull over life’s mysteries at the fire pit, or just read a book in front of the fireplace.

Just finished in 2009 our 2600 square foot, custom built, 2 two story cedar lap home has 3 bedrooms and 3 baths. The master bedroom suite has a king size bed, flat screen TV with Dish, full travertine-tiled bath with beautiful tile walk-in shower and a great Jacuzzi tub. Upstairs are two bedrooms, one with a queen bed and one with a full and a twin bed. Also upstairs is a full bath with tub and shower as well as a sitting area that overlooks below containing a sleeper couch.

An additional separate 3 bedroom unit will be finished and available June 1, 2011. Rented as separate unit but can be combined. See VRBO listing 346281.

The kitchen comes fully equipped with stainless steel appliances, Jenn-air convection gas range, and granite countertops. A dining area and living room with fireplace and full length windows are also on the first floor. Living room includes a large flat screen TV, DVD, and Dish TV. The home has a full length porch in the front and a deck in the back overlooking the river. A short 50’ walk down to the river via our natural trail leads you to the fishing dock where the Kenai’s world class salmon fishing awaits you.

We are located 5 miles from Soldotna, on the north side of the Kenai River towards the end of the road. Escape the crazy crowds and combat fishing during salmon season to our peaceful retreat.

We have a large chest freezer available for your catch as well as some fishing equipment. The home also includes a Food Saver for vacuum packing your fish.

Our house is centrally located with nearby access to bear viewing flights, king salmon and halibut charters, rainbow and dolly varden drift fishing, public golf course; wildlife and nature viewing cruises out of Seward; fishing, clamming, bear viewing charters and funky shops in Homer, as well as breath-taking scenery all around.

About The Owner

My husband and I have been enjoying our visits to Alaska for over 25 years and finally decided to purchase a lot on the Kenai River so we could build our dream vacation home. We designed and had built a custom home by one of the premier builders in the area, Paul Gebhard who is also a top tier musher in the Iditarod! We live in Denver with our 5 golden retrievers and 2 cats and a barnyard of other animals. We go to Alaska as often as our work schedule allows.

Why The Owner chose Soldotna

Both of us love to fish and this area is prime fishing country not only for salmon in the Kenai River but also for trout and salt water fish such as halibut and cod. I am also an amateur photographer and Alaska provides many varied opportunities for taking beautiful pictures.

What makes this house unique

Not only is the fishing from our dock fantastic for sockeye and silver salmon, many of the 'neighbors' are visible a lot of the time such as bears (not too close though) and moose. Even a stray caribou can be seem from time to time in the area!

We spent a week at Hill's place with our four kids and it was a wonderful place to come back to after daily adventures in the area. The kids each had their own bed, which keeps them happy, and the master bedroom/bath were spacious and very nice. The bed was very comfortable. I haven't slept that well in a long time. The kitchen is also very well done. The house is just a few steps from the Kenai River with a great deck off the back facing the river and a nice fishing dock. We caught salmon right from the dock. The area is quiet with adequate space between neighbors and only a few miles from town with plenty of shopping. We saw moose along the road every evening. The owners were very helpful and responsive. I would love to go back.
