Photos and Description of the Cape Charles vacation house rental
3 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, 1 half bathroom, Bunk Room, sleeps 8

A PRIVATE SLICE OF HEAVEN ON THE CHESAPEAKE BAY! This newly-built three level home has unparalleled views of the Chesapeake Bay. Windows stretch across the bay-side of the house so the view can be enjoyed in the living areas, master bedroom and second bedroom. There isn't a bad seat in the house! We have made an effort to provide every amenity in a well-appointed, comfortable setting. Towels and 400 thread-count bed linens are provided at the beginning of your stay. Relax on the private stretch of beach where you won't see a soul

Bring toys! You can kayak, sail, fish, ride bikes, waterski, jet ski, tube, or visit the sandbar that stretches out a few hundred yards from the shore. If you have a boat, a community ramp in a tidal inlet is only 100 yards away. Or you can use the free, full-service, public boat ramp/marina in Cape Charles. Then drive your boat around to Smith Beach and tie up on one of our pilings. Lots to do or just relax!

There are many spots to enjoy the views, breezes and sunshine. Take a cooler and chair down to the beach and relax on the sand with the bay lapping at your feet. At sunset, sit on our aloha deck overhanging the bluff to take in the gorgeous colors as the sun retreats for another day. You can also lounge on the house-side deck while you put some shrimp on the grill from one of the local seafood markets. If you need a break from the sun or want to make the most of the cooling breezes, perch on the porch--morning, noon or night it's a lovely spot.

Beyond the beach, there are dunes to hike nearby, antiquing, kayak excursions, charter boats, fishing and more. There are also a number of dining options within 15 minutes: Mexican, Southern cooking, seafood, Pub fare, pizza, coffee house/cafe, Chinese carry-out and diners. You can also get seafood from the local seafood market, or prime meats from the local butcher and fix yourself a gourmet meal while you enjoy the views. For your convenience there is a Food Lion, Dollar Store, ABC liquor store and pharmacy nearby.

This is really a place to 'unplug' from your everyday life. There is a land line phone with free long distance so you can make calls if your cell phone doesn't get good coverage. To make sure you connect with nature and true relaxation, there is no internet or wifi. If you suffer from withdrawal, you can get a bite to eat and surf the net at the Cape Charles Coffee House to the south and the Machipongo Trading Company to the north.

Absolute Bliss!

5 of 5
Submitted: November 15, 2012 Stayed: July 2012
This property was exactly as expected from how it is presented on the site. Oh and CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN!!!

The area was perfect, the beach so peaceful with warm water and a lovely gentle slope perfect for the kids to play in. The view was spectacular - in particular the sunsets - each night a different but perfect show!

We have traveled to many places and usually there is always something that wasn't what you thought it would be like but this home really does not exaggerate . It truly is exactly as it looks from the photos and description the owners have provided.

The home is well maintained and perfectly clean - there is a precise check-out list each renter fulfills before leaving but it is not difficult or time consuming and is completely worth it when you see how pristine it was on arrival. There is almost everything you will need - an iron and ironing board would have been nice to freshen up crumpled clothes before heading out to dinner - but that is one small thing and certainly didn't spoil our stay.

The owners were great at answering our questions in a timely manner (very much appreciated) and the information they provide is helpful and accurate.

Nearby Cape Charles is a lovely town. Kelly's Gingernut Pub was a favourite for us to eat at - great food and service. Cape Charles Coffee House looked lovely but we didn't stay as the staff were rude, unhelpful and unwelcoming to anyone other than locals.

I would 100% recommend this property to friends and relatives and we certainly would return again in the future!

BayWatch is the best on the bay!

5 of 5
Submitted: August 15, 2012 Stayed: July 2012
Our family had the pleasure of enjoying BayWatch this year for our annual vacation. 3 couples with kids ranging from 16 to 6 months happily fit in this home. The kids ruled the ground level in the bunk room, while each couple enjoyed their own private space. The private beach was perfect for the little ones and docking our 21 ft boat. The older kids enjoyed fishing, taking our kayak over to the sandbar and crabbing. One of our best memories was taking an evening boat ride in the bay and seeing over 30 porpoises feeding not 15 feet from the boat as sting rays swam along the top of the water. The beauty of this place is just amazing!
The outdoor shower was a hit with the kids and parents. It made the clean up process so easy after a day in the sun and sand. We cooked all of our meals at the house, thanks to the well stocked kitchen! We ended our week with an old fashioned crab boil, complete with crabs we caught right off the beach. We also purchased oysters from Nottingham's to smoke on the grill and clams from Clams Direct, highly recommend both for quality and price.
If you're wanting a place to get away from the stress and demands of daily life, look no further. BayWatch is the answer for relaxation and relief.

Bay Watch on the Chesapeake

5 of 5
Submitted: June 24, 2012 Stayed: June 2012
If you are looking for a quiet and VERY clean home to get away from it all, you must look at Bay Watch. The owners are very particular about the maintenance and care of their home, something I truly appreciate. The private beach allows you to enjoy the bay without all of the noise of a public beach. If you want, you can actually go down the street and catch your own crabs! This area will allow you to get "away from it all" and enjoy the comforts of home BUT if you also want a little "hustle bustle", Virginia Beach is not that far away. The local area has some nice kayak adventures, fishing excursions, local wineries, and of course, the local eating establishments. Great place for a family....the entire basement of the home could be the kids corner!

I often worry that reviews are written by family members or the owners themselves. I am none of these....I seriously just rented the house and I am offering some honest insight to the kind owners who are sharing a nice home.

We had a happy and relaxing time at this lovely home on the bay. The three levels provided the three fractions of the family alone time and then the abililty to re group and bond together. The home is well appointed although a mixer for my margaritas would have been appreciated! The private beach and beautiful sunsets rounded out the day. I would recommend this to anyoe who needs to get away from the hussel of every day life and just enjoy the majesty of nature.

Loved it So Much We Tried to Extend Our Stay

5 of 5
Submitted: October 25, 2011 Stayed: September 2011
I stayed in this house in September with my husband and our new baby: our first family vacation and one of our favorite trips of all time. There were a few hiccups (it was fruit fly season in the area--so it wasn't just a house issue... but yuck--and the fire alarm went off twice for no apparent reason), but Jennifer did what she could to remedy them and in a very timely manner. The house is absolutely wonderful, and we were even greeted with a bottle of wine in the fridge--very thoughtful. The rooms upstairs and the sitting areas downstairs especially look like spreads out of Real Simple magazine. (I repeatedly said to my husband, "The owner must be an interior decorator, don't you think?") We spent our mornings on the private beach sipping coffee, playing with the baby and lazily flipping through glossies and our evenings eating the food we grilled or cooked in the fully equipped kitchen. Jennifer isn't kidding when she says you won't want to leave: We actually asked if we could stay a few more days! Area hints: Jennifer recommended the Gingernut Pub and Top China, both of which were outstanding. The Cape Charles Coffee House was charming, but expensive--though my coffee drink was delicious and the barista (possibly the owner?) was extremely cheerful and proud to share his extensive coffee knowledge. My husband also golfed the Bay Creek course while my baby and I enjoyed the beautiful views from the cart--we'd highly recommend it (and lunch in the clubhouse was also great).
