Carolina Beach House Rental Photos and Description

House, 6 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 4.25 Baths, (Sleeps 12-18)

Our home is oceanfront in Carolina Beach, North Carolina. It is an older style cottage built in the 1940's and we added a third floor and renovated in 2003. There are great views with beautiful porches and decks overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. In the Spring of 2008, the ground floor was added to the rental making it a full house rental. Full kitchen was renovated on middle floor in 2011 with dishwasher and garbage disposal. Two efficiency kitchens on other two floors.

The ground floor does have a separate entrance and is filled with games for the kids, a retro sofa converting lounger, an efficiency kitchen, a pool table/air hockey table and a big screen TV with DVD. It also has two bedrooms and one bath, all in beautiful bright beachy colors.

The middle floor has a full kitchen and family room with a queen sleeper sofa, one queen bedroom, one full bedroom and one full bathroom. There is a wonderful open porch with a swing, rockers, and a table for eating or playing games. There are two outdoor showers; an open shower on the walkway from the beach to rinse off sand, and a closed hot and cold shower to enjoy your daily shower!

The top floor has one queen bedroom, one twin to king trundle bedroom, and a sunroom with a queen sleeper sofa, and two full bathrooms. All rooms have ocean views. There is a beautiful deck from the bedroom and the sunroom with a retractable awning. A washer and dryer are in a common hallway leading to the middle floor. There is a lockout option with entrances both internally and externally to both of the top two floors.

The house will sleep 12 people in beds, and another 6 people on sofa beds!

This house is located on the north end of Carolina Beach, a quieter and more relaxing part of the beach. The Boardwalk, fishing pier and charter boats are all within walking distance. Enjoy the many restaurants, kid's activities, and just strolling on the beach! Bike, chair, umbrella and boat rentals are all within one mile of the house. There is a private deck and walkway to the beach, a brick grill and fireplace to cook out, and everything you need to have a wonderful relaxing vacation! There are free summer concerts each month as well as a wonderful Seafood Blues and Jazz Festival in October.

The NC Aquarium is a short drive as well as the USS NC Battleship Memorial and historic Wilmington! You can take a beautiful 30 minute ferry ride from Fort Fisher, just a few miles away, to Southport, another historic and beautiful town on the water. There are wonderful restaurants and antique shops in historic Southport. Come and enjoy our wonderful vacation home! We vacation there too, so you can count on it being well kept!

FAMILIES AND RESPONSIBLE ADULTS ONLY! We have the right to refuse rentals to groups or students. This is a NONSMOKING RENTAL and NO PETS ALLOWED.

Please note that this house is an older style beach cottage, with fairly small rooms and bathrooms.

About Kelly

We moved from Virginia to the Wilmington area in 1991. We fell in love with the old beach cottages in Carolina Beach and soon found one that was a 'great fixer-upper'. We did some cosmetic changes and enjoyed the house for one year before Hurricanes Bertha and Fran hit! We had extensive damage, but were able to salvage the house and maintain it's 1940's charm with an updated look. Later in 2003, we added a third floor to the house and have been renting to many return renters since that time. The house is in a great area of Carolina Beach, the north end, where many families vacation and close enough but far enough away from the boardwalk area to minimize noise. Every other year, the town renourishes the beach, so in the off years, the beach erosion can be significant. We love Mimi's cottage, named after my (Kelly's) mom, and appropriate since my parents own the house with us. We know that you will enjoy staying here in the quaintness of an old beach cottage with bright modern colors and fabulous views!

Kelly purchased this house in 1995

Why Kelly chose Carolina Beach

Avi was working in Carolina Beach when we moved to the area, and we lived here for the first year. We then moved into Wilmington but missed the beach and soon started looking for property that we could fix up. We loved the area because it was far enough from Wilmington to feel like we were on vacation, but close enough to drive home if we needed. We love the uncrowded beaches and the 'old' feel of the beach. It reminds me of childhood visits to the beach.

What makes this house unique

You will enjoy the benefit of this oceanfront property with easy access to the beach, a nice parking pad with a deck area off of the walkway to the beach with a brick charcoal grill and outdoor fireplace, outdoor showers, one with both hot and cold water, a nice tanning deck on the top floor. You can easily walk to the north end pier to fish or eat, or to the Boardwalk where there are great shops, amusement rides, bike and other vehicle rentals, and an exciting nightlife. The NC Aquarium is about a 5 mile drive, as is the ferry over to Southport. Wilmington is only about a 15 minute drive where there are wonderful restaurants, sightseeing, film studio tours, carriage rides, and a wonderful downtown riverwalk. Our house has been a host to many weddings. We are one of only a few single family houses left at the beach. We have a large parking pad that works well with tents and tables, and we offer offsite parking at our hotel if you can provide shuttle service for your guests. We also have other properties in close proximity that can house other guests within walking distance.

Great House

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed in the house for one week. Had a wedding on the beach. 16 family members were present. Had a great time and the house was fantastic. Had a few minor issues that you would have anywhere, not worth mentioning. Wish it were dog friendly but most aren't and we knew it going in. We would recommend it highly and plan to go back.

Beach Getaway

  • 3 of 5

The house was very nice and in a great location, however there was a very mean neighbor that was constantly watching what we did and even came out to tell us our 2 year old granddaughter couldnt pick up the sand on her property, thankfully we all recognized the womans ignorance and didnt let her ruin our great time! The bottom floor of the home is not attached to the other levels so you have to go outside to access the rest of the home, which was great for the teenagers! They enjoyed the pool table and game console that was provided. Kitchen is well stocked with dishes, pots, pans, etc..... overall nice property.

Family Beach Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Sorry it took so long to add our review. The house was PERFECT! I wasn't sure how this vacation would work out. This was the first time we tried a family group vacation with my in-laws. So I had to find something that would work for a diverse age and interest group - starting with my mother and father-in-law (in their 80s) through our adult children (who wanted the nightlife). The lower level with it's own entry and gaming area was just right for the late night crowd. Grandma and Grandpa were very happy with their middle floor bedroom that kept their stair climbing to a minimum. Then there was the upper floor with a fabulous view and another entry way for the late night partiers that didn't wake our early sleepers.

With enough sleeping areas and 4 bathrooms, we had no trouble assigning beds or 'cleaning up' for our excursions. We are looking forward to another stay at your wonderful cottage. I have it bookmarked and hopefully we will be organizing another trip next year.

Thank you Kelly and Abe

Happy family holiday!

  • 5 of 5

This property is on a quiet part of the beautiful North Carolina Beach with it's own boardwalk to access the beach. It is ideal for a large family gathering, we had lots of excursions planned but enjoyed swimming in the warm wavy sea and taking in the views so much no-one really wanted to leave the house for very long! It was wonderful to wake up to the sight and sound of the sea every morning and watch the pelicans flying overhead and diving in the sea to fish.

The house is well equipped for a lot of people with lots of seats on each decking to sit on, and was very clean and tastefully decorated with a nautical theme in each room. The lower floor was slightly damp so people on that floor only used it for sleeping. The outside bathroom and the pool table were also very popular!

We did manage to venture out to Wilmington for the day which is a beautiful town with lots of historical landmarks on the Cape Fear River.

We left with lots of wonderful memories of happy times.

Memorial day

  • 4 of 5

I think the beach house is great. There are a few issues though that I think should be brought to their attention. We stayed downstairs and the glass door would not open for most of us. We ended up having to jiggle the handle for a long time to get it to open and sometimes it wouldn't so we ended up shutting the main door. It was not convenient because we like to see the kids and if there was a fire you would be trapped. Also, the upstairs dryer had to be run three times to completely dry clothes. It seems the heating element needs replaced. The downstairs door did not lock in the bathroom either.

Love the house and memories. Just needs some repairs.

Owner's Response: The handle has been repaired and the dryer vent was blocked up by a small towel that must have gotten caught in there. Sorry we did not know about these issues until you posted them, and we took care of them right away. Look forward to seeing you again next year!!

Where memories are made!

  • 5 of 5

This was our 5th year at Mimi's Cottage! And once again we hated to say goodbye! Weeks leading up to our trip this is all our children can talk about. The house and the beach combination does not get any better. We walked into new colors on the wall, new fursnishngs, new vanities, new floors and more. It looked wonderful. The colors were so welcoming. . We spent all day at the beach. And at the end of the day we pack up our goods and head to the private boardwalk to the house(we leave our belongings at the boardwalk so we do not have to carry it all the way back). We showered up and prepared our meal for the evening. We always have dinner in the large parking area. Listening to sounds of the ocean and some music. Sitting on the porch swing after our meal is so relaxing. There are games and a pool table inside where some go to take time out from the fresh air. Then we all head to our rooms for a nice comfy sleep. Morning breakfast is just as much fun. With the large table we all gather and look forward to the day ahead. Our children through the years have come up with things they do before they leave such has their night crab hunting. This year they feasted on what they caught. I could go on and on about the memories we make every year at Mimi's cottage. I look forward to allowing our children to write their reviews and why they love it there so much. Until next year! Thank you Kelly and Avi for allowing us to stay in your home!
