Great place to get away from the downstate rat race.....

Fun place - not too many places where you can be on a lake and not see anyone on the water. We had some great days of catch n release bass fishing. Floated the AuSable (only 15 minutes north - 3 hour float not one cabin). Sandy beaches on Lake Huron another day (about 40-45 minutes). Also had lots of BDB's (Back Deck Beers) on huge back deck. Saw a bald eagle perched on a tree overlooking the lake one day - (nice way to start the morning). Lake is clear (very few weeds) - fun for swimming and relaxing. The kayaks and Stand Up Paddle Board were a bonus. Interior of cabin is comfortable with a big kitchen and living room. Another bonus if coming from Detroit area is the drive is easy - a little less then 3 hours. I will be back.

A great place to Vacation... Private lake and srounding woods to enjoy and explore

  • 5 of 5

We had friends from Ireland visiting and wanted them to experience "Up North" Michigan. This was the perfect place. They loved it. With the private lake to swim, boat, kayak and fish and the woods to explore (visit the little house in the woods... it's special). Thier six year old son fell in love with the place and "Up North". The beach, dock, pontoon boat and property were all well maintained. The house is spacious and well equipted with more than enough room for the five or us and the dog. The views from the deck are spectacular. Being Irish.... we enjoyed visiting the local Pub and having a pint or two. Now when we Facetime (in Ireland) with them their son says "when are we going UP North again". We tell him very soon.

Amazing/beautiful/relaxing

  • 5 of 5

The house and lake were both absolutely AMAZING! We brought with us three couples and three dogs and I can honestly say that everyone had a blast. The house is very clean and comfortable and it was not long before we were right at home. The first three days of our trip were gorgeous weather, the second 3 days were a little less pleasant with rain and clouds. However, we found plenty to do with Foosball tournaments, cards and the Olymipcs :) Great place to hike, bike, kayak, jog, read, and relax. The pontoon was great for floating around the lake and the kayaks were great for exploring. We managed to find a way to the second "smaller" lake on the kayaks and saw a couple of beaver lodges! Mike and Tiffany were great with questions before hand, we had a small issue with a toilet while we were there and the "handy man" was there in not much more than minutes to fix it. The security deposit was returned the day after we returned home. During your stay I would highly recommend the Long Lake Tavern (in long lake, only 10 minutes or so away)...GREAT pizza!! Overall I would give a 9.95 out of ten. The ONLY Reason it does not have a perfect 10 is because a little bit bigger lake would be perfect. Don't let that deter you though, I would only say that in a "if it were a perfect word" statement. It will not deter me from returning again, I really do see this as a place we could come year after year after year!! Thanks camp Chiado :)

Fantastic Summer Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We came to the house for a vacation "away from it all" and that's exactly what we got! City life, cares, and stress...they all melted away as we drove north into beautiful rural Michigan and pulled up to the house. The house is roomy and well laid-out; it wasn't very long before we felt right at home. Every morning was perfect, and we enjoyed our time sitting on the big deck overlooking the lake. Gentle breezes brushed by with a peace that only nature can bring. The lake was amazingly clear and warm--perfect for swimming, floating around on tubes, and kayaking. It's a short easy walk down a slight hill to get to the lake. The soft sandy beach, flat expanse of lawn, sunbathing deck, and wooden dock provide lots of great places to hang out by the lake shore.

There are acres of woods to explore; we went to Butler Cabin and beyond. Butler Cabin is a neat place to visit. It has a genuine rustic charm all its own. It's like the perfect fort in the woods that you always wanted--but already built and waiting just for you.

The house is close to many attractions that make good day trips. Lake Huron is close enough for an easy day trip, and State and National Park areas abound. There are endless opportunities for hiking, biking, exploring, and nature viewing.

Evenings at the house were just as enjoyable as the mornings. It was easy to cook up delicious dinners on the big gas grill and fun to watch the sunlight fading over the lake. At night, the sky is dark enough to see a multitude of stars (which is amazing if you're from a suburban or urban area). It's well worth staying up for. Every night we slept soundly in our spacious, safe, and comfortable home away from home. One warning: you'll never want to leave! We sure didn't.

The owners have been great about answering questions and communicating throughout the entire process. They provided a comfortable, hospitable place to enjoy our vacation. This was truly an indulgent vacation for us--a house that beats a hotel room or condo by a mile, a lake that was basically "ours" for a week, and all the R & R we had been hoping for. We've already been recommending this rental to friends, coworkers, and family. We'll be returning as soon as we can!
