About The Owner

Donna Dell is a retired employment lawyer and former Labor Commissioner of California. Having a love of travel since her early career as an international airline employee, Donna always found herself attracted to northern California's rugged coastline and picturesque hillsides, reminicient of her family's medieval village in southern Italy.

The Owner purchased this chateau / country house in 2011

Why The Owner chose Sonoma

Having shared my Irish Beach vacation home on the Mendocino coast for more than twenty years with return guests, including many 2nd generations, Carneros seemed the perfect addition. The convenience of its location to San Francisco, Napa and Sonoma, along with the variety of activities available to all ages, prompted me to start looking in the Carneros region about 8 years ago. The moment I finally walked into this house I knew I'd found my Casacalenda!

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Three days in the wine country followed by 3 days overlooking the ocean in beautiful Mendocino County make the perfect California vacation! Please visit VRBO property #275652 to view Donna's Irish Beach vacation rental.

Wonderful Vacation Destination

  • 5 of 5
My husband, two grown children and I just returned from an amazing week in Sonoma. The house was in an excellent rural location, but only minutes from Sonoma Plaza and many vineyards. The house is completely updated with a beautiful kitchen and bathrooms. Both of the bedrooms have outside access to either the lovely back yard or a small private deck. The yard was an oasis to return to after a day of sightseeing and wine tastings. We loved the hot tub which was very clean and worked well. Spa towels and plastic wineglasses were provided. Donna has thought of everything to make your stay so pleasant, including a complementary bottle of local wine. She even invited us to use the abundant tomatoes, eggplants and herbs from her garden. Her communication with us was exceptional, including a welcome email with some suggestions for local activities upon our arrival. I would highly recommend this property for anyone visiting the area.

Beautiful, peaceful home - perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5
We stayed here for a week on a recent trip to the area. We could not have been more happy with our choice - the house is close to Sonoma, but in a very peaceful, rural setting with sheep right across the street. The house is adorable - much cozier in the kitchen/living/dining area than I expected from the pictures. The outdoor space is beautiful and relaxing. We didn't try the hot tub, but did enjoy the bicycles that are provided. The house was very clean and Donna was easy to work with - I would definitely return if visiting Sonoma again in the future. One note of caution - the bed in the master bedroom is very firm...while the bed in the guest room is much softer. The MBR bed was a bit too firm for me to sleep in comfortably - but some might like it!

Owner's Response: Dear Karen,
Thank you so much for your thoughtful comments. I have added hypoallergenic featherbed toppers to each bed to assure both good support and a "soft" landing.
I'm so pleased that you enjoyed your visit . .
Warmest regards,
Donna

Had a great time!

  • 5 of 5
We stayed here with another couple (4 adults). We were in town for the Napa to Sonoma Half Marathon. The location worked out great as the race course literally passed by the house! The home was clean, well equipped, and nicely appointed with everything we needed. It is close to Sonoma Square but not really within walking distance, although Donna provides bicycles which would work great! Donna was a pleasure to work with and we appreciated the welcome bottle of wine! We would definitely return again!

Perfect in every way

We have visited the wine country many times prior but this has been the best place to stay. Quiet yet close to everything, and very well appointed, the owner has thought of everything here to make us relaxed and comfortable. We will be back!

Delightful Home in Peaceful Location

  • 5 of 5
This house was really a good find! We (2 couples) come to Sonoma at least once a year and this is finally one house we will want to rent again. It is so clean and well cared for, and homey with numerous thoughtful touches. It is so nice that my husband guessed that the owner lived there when not renting (not so). :-) There is an Ipod tower and also a stereo/cd with cds available to relax and listen to. There is a nice little card table that we used while listening to music and sipping the wine that the owner left for us. The kitchen is extremely nice with a coffee maker, espresso maker and coffee bean grinder. Outside in the back yard there is a lovely double hammock, a gorgeous BBQ and croquet! I wished (almost but not quite) that I had small children again who could use the very well appointed and secure separate play house in the back yard! This is a good value and a short drive to town center. The owner is very easy to do business with.

"Good find for spring break, Dad"

"Good find for spring break, Dad"
  • 5 of 5
Instead of our "usual" spring break ski or beach trip, we decided to do something different, so when our family of four decided on wine country I started looking and found the "usual" overpriced hotels, condos, etc... Then I found this gem, love the one story living, very quiet, close to everything, gave us city folk just enough of a country feel while still being very upscale and extremely comfortable. For a family of four, great value.
