On a quiet street, just 14 houses from some of the most amazing beaches in all of Santa Cruz County...this wonderful house is perfect for families, girls' getaways, romantic retreats, multi-generational gatherings, and special times for couples or groups of friends.
This well-maintained, well stocked, clean, single-level, comfortable house is just a short, flat walk to some of the nicest beaches in Santa Cruz. With three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large family room and a living room, it sleeps between 8 and 12 guests comfortably. (Maximum number of adults allowed is 8.) The house has 1 King bed, 2 Queen beds, 2 Queen Futons, 1 Queen Sofa-Sleeper, 1 Rollaway Double bed, and a Queen Aerobed and is a great place for one family or a multi-generational vacation stay, reunion, place to stay while visiting your son or daughter at UCSC or attending a wedding. Pets considered by prior arrangement. Private Hot Tub, Gas Grill, Covered Patio, and Fully-Fenced Back Garden with Grassy Area for Kids and Pets to Play. Croquet set. Gas and woodburning fireplaces inside and a firepit outside. Fresh herbs in the garden. Fully-equipped kitchen with gas stove, microwave, dishwasher, toaster, coffee maker, food processor, blender, ice cream freezer, ice maker, and service for 12. Herbs and condiments in the pantry and refrigerator, Gevalia coffee, assorted teas, beach towels, wetsuits, boogie boards, and a foosball table.
Kate's Cottage by the Sea is a house with amenities to accommodate several generations, from the high chairs and cribs to the shower chair and grab bars in the shower. You’ll find shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, and a hair dryer in each bathroom and terrycloth robes for lounging. It's a flat, easy walk to the beach and offers parking for up to 4 vehicles, including parking passes for 2 on the street.
Winter Rates:* (January 4-February 12, 2015): 205/night midweek; $325/night weekends; $1500/week; 3900/30 days. 2 night minimum. 30-day rate includes allowance for utilities, with charges above that the responsibility of the guest.
Mid Season* (September 15-December 14, 2014 and Feb 13-May 29, 2014; excluding school holiday periods): $294/night midweek; $355/night Fri., Sat.; $1875/week Use weekend (or weekly) rates plus 10% for UCSC Alumni Reunion weekend, Thanksgiving week, and holiday weekends. On 3-day holiday weekends, Sun. rate is same as Fri.-Sat. rate.
June, August, and December Holiday Weeks*: $379/night**; $2450/week** **Deduct 15% Monday through Thursday nights during final 2 weeks of August.
July 2015: $450/night weekend*, $425/night midweek*
*cleaning/restocking fee (normally $225), $55 processing fee, $45 Drought Impact Fee, & 11% local tax charged on all rentals. $75 pet fee as applicable. .
**NOTE: The site does not allow us to show the full rental agreement, so before you book online, the owner recommends that you call her regarding any questions you may have, as well as the check-in and check-out procedures, guest responsibilities, and other terms that apply to all reservations.
*Standard Terms: 50%+$100 due on booking, next 25% due within 30 days, balance due 30 days before check-in. 15% rescheduling/cancellation fee; payments are refundable only if cancelled dates are resold. Trip cancellation insurance may be available to you through outside providers. Check with owner for further information.
*$850 refundable security deposit OR $100 refundable deposit plus damage waiver insurance ($39) required.
During high season, no extra charge for check-in on a Saturday, unless that would leave a gap of only one night. Other times of the year, additional charge for Saturday arrival.

I love getting to know the guests who vacation at the cottage.
I have many happy memories of spending summer vacation on the beach here as far back as the 1970s. The beaches are just as wonderful and unspoiled and uncrowded now as they were then.
One of my favorite things is listening to the sound of the waves at night from inside the house...this isn't always possible, but it seems most likely when low tide is late at night.
I also love to pour a cup of coffee and head to the beach first thing in the morning and take in the morning walk before starting my day. At the end of the day, the sunsets over the water can be spectacular right at the end of the street.
I also love that the house is practically on the Wharf-to-Wharf course...this is an annual run from the Santa Cruz Wharf to the Capitola Wharf, and I've been participating in it most years since the mid-1970s.
Last but not least, the neighbors are very friendly!
