Our trips to Bald Head are always a highlight of our family travel calendar. All thoughts of school and work are left behind the minute we step onto the ferry. Getting around by cart and bike sets the tone for a less hectic pace of life.
The Boerickes have had a house on the island for over 20 years. We've witnessed many changes, but the island still has the same charm as ever. We love the car-free atmosphere. It's a great place for kids. We value the island's emphasis on conservation and the ongoing Loggerhead turtle program.
We particularly love surfing and kayaking on East Beach, as well as going out in the canoe on the creek to bird watch and catch crabs. South Beach is a short walk away. Watching the sun set while sitting in a rocking chair on the gazebo never gets old. Depending on the time of year, you may see loggerhead turtles laying nests, or see the nests themselves hatching!
