peace and quiet, with charm

We loved our stay at Abigail House. This well-located, pretty cottage provided a safe, comfortable hideaway---complete with lush summer gardens and patio--for our family of four. The decor and furnishings are good quality, updated, comfy, cheerful and unpretentious. The home was well-maintained and very clean. The appliances were in good working order, and the owner has put a lot of thought into ensuring that everything is available to guests to make meals low-maintenance and the overall cottage stay hassle-free.
Our family of four walked, bicycled, and explored every nook and cranny of Niagara-on-the-Lake. We much appreciated returning to our lovely cottage and the quiet neighborhood at the end of each day--or even for lunch or a break as needed. Abigail House is an ideal location for coming and going during the day, especially if you have kids, or want an occasional break or rest.
A few-minutes walk put us right in the heart of the village. I particularly enjoyed all the flowers, shops and cafes. (When I return to N-O-L again, I will stock up on more of the famous Greaves marmalade!) There were a wide variety of restaurants and eateries available--and family friendly. We spent a lot of time exploring the nearby parks. A favorite day was spent at historic Fort George, hearing stories of the rigors of fort life for the British soldiers (War of 1812), checking out the barracks, buildings, and watching a musket demonstration, which our boys loved!
One reason we had come to Niagara-On-the-Lake was to experience Niagara Falls, which is less than a half hour's drive away. I would HIGHLY recommend to anyone hoping to see Niagara Falls to stay in NOL rather than in Niagara Falls. While N-O-L is one of the prettiest towns in Canada, Niagara Falls is the opposite. We were never so relieved to leave the dense crowds, noise, and casino-atmosphere of Niagara Falls and to return at the end of the day to peaceful Niagara On the Lake, and our cottage. To fully experience the power of the Niagara River and class 5 rapids, we took our boys (ages 11, 9) on the jet boats, which leave directly out of N-O-L. This was a great time and, although it's a little on the pricey side, we highly recommend this fun ride for adventurous kids.
Our time in Niagara on the Lake was a favorite vacation of our family--and Abigail Cottage provided the ideal spot from which our family could get the most out of this gorgeous spot, while being able to relax.
