Bordeaux Mountain Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 1 Bedroom + Loft, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-6)

Wonderful location for a family on a budget or for those who used to stay at Maho! Gorgeous views of Coral Bay. Cute little cottage (this is not a luxury villa) sleeps up to 6: two on queen size bed in bedroom, two in king size bed in the loft, and two on full size sleeper sofa. Updated kitchen is fully stocked with all the necessary utensils, plates, cups, and cooking supplies.

This cottage sits at the bottom of the lot and thus has many steps (82) down to the unit. This cottage is probably not for the elderly.

The cottage has air conditioning throughout, with the exception of the screened in porch and screened-in bathroom - what a view from the bathroom! The bathroom was recently renovated with all new tile and fixtures.

Relax on the new deck and porch while sipping cocktails looking at the boats anchored just below. Plenty of nearby restaurants and beaches to keep you busy all day long!

For those who have been to St John before you can rest easy that the road to the house is a concrete straightaway with no switchbacks!

Why The Owner chose Bordeaux Mountain

We just love the peace and quiet of Coral Bay. We bought this particular house because the drive to the house is up a simple straight concrete road with no switchbacks and no issues.

Best spot on St John yet! Highly recommend!

  • 5 of 5
Been traveling to St John since 1999 and this was the best place we have stayed at. Even better that its such a great deal! The new bathroom was fantastic (I think it was completed just before our stay). We slept in the lower master bedroom and the mattress was comfortable and the A/C unit had been replaced so we slept peacefully and great. Our son slept up on the kingsize bed in the loft and loved having his own space.

Of course the best part of the cottage is the views. Wow! Its so secluded and private which really makes it a relaxing spot at the end of a day at the beach.

The kitchen is fully stocked with anything you could ever need.

I`ve had two knee replacements but the stairs are obviously fairly new and have a nice railing so I found them to not be a problem.

Again, this would be a great place to stay even if it weren't so inexpensive. The fact that its also cheap is just a bonus! We will be back.

Owner's Response: Glad you enjoyed your stay as well as our improvements. Yes, that was a new A/C unit in the bedroom as well as a new mattress in the master. Loving the new bathroom tile too!

Come back again!

Nice stay.

My wife and I were looking for an inexpensive place that would hold us and possibly a daughter or three if they decided to come down. Blue Wrasse fit the bill. Take a close look at the posted pictures. They are pretty much spot on as to what you are getting.

The main floor of the cottage is one room (probably 16x16 or 20x20) that includes a well stocked kitchen, a pretty comfortable couch, a small two chair dining "bar", a small HDTV with cable and wi-fi, door to the outdoor screened-in toilet/shower room, front door to the screened-in porch, and the ladder up to the small loft.

The outdoor screened-in toilet/shower room included a sink with small mirror, full size toilet, and a shower area just outside the door back into the house. The area would be small/cramped if more than two or three people are staying at once.

The small loft above the main floor is reached by a ladder in the corner of the main room by the bathroom door and includes what we thought was a king sized mattress on the floor of the loft. I think now it was a twin sized mattress against the wall and a twin sized box spring on the open side of the loft. I never took the time to pick up the open side "mattress" to confirm but there was a definite difference in firmness from one side to the other. The ceiling in the loft is low so watch your head getting into and out of bed. The ladder can be a bit tricky as well. We slept in the loft all nights except the first night (see below for reason). The provided fan, along with the AC was perfect for sleeping.

The main bedroom is reached by going out of the main room, through the screened-in porch, then out on the deck and down a flight of stairs. The main bedroom is build below the main room. This room included a queen sized bed (comfortable), a 6 drawer chest, a small child-size bed, and a small refrigerator. We slept in this room the first night, but the AC unit was so loud that we could not sleep when the condenser kicked on. Not sure if the unit is going bad, or the noise is just a product of the installation method, but it was beyond loud. It could be heard upstairs when running as well.

We counted 110 steps from parking area to the screen door of the cottage. Made that up/down 2 or 3 times a day.

My only complaint was the loud AC in the main bedroom.

Includes beach chairs and a small cooler. Bring or rent snorkel gear - has some but... Purchase gallon jugs of drinking water. Grill works perfectly.

Sweet Repeat

This was our second two week stay at The Blue Wrasse, and it was as wonderful as the first! We love the amenities offered -- gas grill, full size range, microwave, fully equipped kitchen (with cook's tools, blender, coffee maker and toaster), new cotton sheets, beach towels and chairs, fans, etc. The cottage is a fabulous home away from home with an open air shower, screened in porch and killer view of Coral Harbor. There is air conditioning if needed. We like sleeping in the loft with its king size bed. All windows, except one, and the porch are screened, so mosquitoes are not a problem as they can be on island. Although we are both over 55, we are physically active and have no problems with the stairs from the parking area down to the cottage. We love the quieter Coral Bay area, and with a rental car, all beaches, snorkeling spots, trails, grocery stores, and dining options are accessible. Love City Market is close by and has a good selection of groceries, sunscreen, beer and wine. The Starfish Market, Pine Peace Market, the Chelsea Drugstore and Starfish Wine & Cheese in Cruz Bay are great places for any provisions. The Starfish Market also has a great deli for meals and sandwiches for your picnics. The Papaya Cafe Bookstore in The Market Place at Cruz Bay has heavenly coffee and a wonderful selection of new and used books. The Friends of the National Park store in Mongoose Junction is great for gifts and t shirts. Our favorite places to eat are The High Tide, Pickles in Paradise, Cafe Livin', and The Tourist Trap. The Starfish Market also has a great deli for meals and sandwiches for your picnics. The caretaker and property owner are very responsive to the comfort and safety of their guests. Our only concern, when it came time to book this year, was how quickly the calendar fills up! We are already looking forward to our next visit!!!

Clean, budget friendly lodging

  • 5 of 5
We enjoyed our stay at the Blue Wrasse. It provided a clean, comfortable and reasonably priced place to stay on St. John. The owner and manager were very helpful with trip planning tips and respectful of our privacy when arranging for a plumber to fix a small leak. The Blue Wrasse was very clean and a great place to relax after a day exploring the islands. The sunrises were gorgeous. We found it very easy to cook dinner each night in the clean kitchen. There were plenty of towels, including beach towels, for our family of 5 to use for the week. We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to other families.

The Blue Wrasse was perfect. Being a Maho Bay Refugee I loved the place, and hope to return. The Blue Wrasse was affordable, comfortable, private, and included items that you just never got at Maho. Which included a gas grill, frig/freezer, blender, coffee machine, beach chairs, cooler, and a deck with an epic view! The Blue Wrasse also had AC! But was never used by us. At night the window in the loft blow in cool trade winds and you wake up with the sunrise.
I have always appreciated the Coral Bay side of St. John, and the Blue Wrasse was a quick drive from everything Coral Bay. Pickles in paradise was a first stop several days to pick up one of the best sandwiches on the island before an adventure. The Shipwreck Landing, Aqua Bistro, Miss Lucy's, and Skinny Legs have the best food, and Island Blues for a drink before heading back up the hill to the Blue Wrasse. I also like Vie's snack shack farther out on the East End. The beach there is great and empty and the snorkel out to Pelican Rock is a great afternoon adventure. Another epic adventure is a hike/snorkel from Annaberg to Browns Bay and back. Hike out in some type of water shoe on the Leinster Bay/Johnny Horn/Brown Bay Trail and snorkel back with the current. 2.5 mile hike and 2.5 mile snorkel. You can get out if you have to. Annaberg is also unbelievable at night. Don't skip a Mangrove snorkel.
You need a car or jeep if you stay at the Blue Wrasse and in St John. Don't wait for a bus, a ride or walk unless your hiking a great trail. Your only on the island a short amount of time enjoy every minute. With a jeep you can also drive up the Kings Road! Don't tell Brenda at Denzyl Clyne I said that. Plus the Blue Wrasse had a little shop vacuum to get rid of the sand in the jeep before the return, which made for an easy exit in Cruz Bay. Wish I was playing guitar on that deck right now.

Private Tropical Paradise

  • 5 of 5
This cute villa, nestled on a hill in the tropical forest, was the perfect stay for my (new) husband and me for our honeymoon. Positioned on a secluded, relaxing side of the island (Coral Bay--away from tourists), this is the perfect spot for those looking to get away, with great views of/access to Coral Bay Harbor (super short car ride) and other neighboring islands (by ferry). Waking up to the sunrise in the loft was a great perk as well as sitting on the balcony overlooking the harbor in the evening. We were even able to shop at nearby markets and fish stands for local ingredients to prepare our own meals at the villa (there is a kitchen with oven/range inside and a grill outside). There were also many nearby restaurants to drive to (Skinny Legs and Island Oasis were our favorites). The best part was the proximity to secluded beaches, like Francis Bay and GREAT snorkeling spots, like Waterlemon Bay. We are already thinking about a trip back to this little spot--it was the perfect stay!
