Overview

Bordeaux Mountain Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 1 Bedroom + Loft, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-6)

Wonderful location for a family on a budget or for those who used to stay at Maho! Gorgeous views of Coral Bay. Cute little cottage (this is not a luxury villa) sleeps up to 6: two on queen size bed in bedroom, two in king size bed in the loft, and two on full size sleeper sofa. Updated kitchen is fully stocked with all the necessary utensils, plates, cups, and cooking supplies.

This cottage sits at the bottom of the lot and thus has many steps (82) down to the unit. This cottage is probably not for the elderly.

The cottage has air conditioning throughout, with the exception of the screened in porch and screened-in bathroom - what a view from the bathroom! The bathroom was recently renovated with all new tile and fixtures.

Relax on the new deck and porch while sipping cocktails looking at the boats anchored just below. Plenty of nearby restaurants and beaches to keep you busy all day long!

For those who have been to St John before you can rest easy that the road to the house is a concrete straightaway with no switchbacks!

Why The Owner chose Bordeaux Mountain

We just love the peace and quiet of Coral Bay. We bought this particular house because the drive to the house is up a simple straight concrete road with no switchbacks and no issues.

Great place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I recently spent our honeymoon at Blue Wrasse. The views were incredible - just like the pictures. They villa had everything we needed for our week-long stay, and the towels, beach chairs, snorkel fins, etc., were a huge bonus. The a/c in both the kitchen and downstairs bedroom were wonderful and made our stay very comfortable. We loved Coral Bay and it was very easy to get anywhere on the island in a short amount of time. We traveled all over St. John, but enjoyed coming home at night to relax at the villa. As others have said, there are A LOT of stairs - approximately 97 from the very top to the very bottom - by the end of the trip we were used to it, but it was challenging at times. You don't want to leave anything behind when you head out for the day! We loved Blue Wrasse, and will stay here again if we return to St. John!

Coral Bay Gem

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I have stayed in Blue Wrasse multiple times, and it never disappoints. Honestly, this trip we thought the villa looked the best it ever has. The owners always do a great job of keeping it tidy and clean, making it a nice little island getaway if you don't want to spend an arm and a leg on accommodations. Blue Wrasse's strength is its location; for those in the know, Coral Bay is the place to stay on St. John, especially if you're looking to get away from the "hustle and bustle" of the Cruz Bay side. There are plenty of bars and restaurants right down the hill, and some of the best beaches can be found on this side of the island, too (and they're often less crowded). Coral Bay will always hold a special place in our hearts. But honestly, staying at Blue Wrasse is a huge part of the experience, and I can't imagine being in St. John and staying anywhere else.

Blue Wrasse is the place for us!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I just returned from a week long stay at the Blue Wrasse. This was our 6th time staying here and I can't think of anywhere else I would rather be in Coral Bay. The views of Coral Bay and the outlying BVIs are incredible from their screened-in back porch and never get old. There is always a nice breeze sitting outside as the villa is perfectly positioned on the side of the mountain. When we got to the villa, we noticed that they've done some upgrades and the downstairs master bedroom was exceptionaly clean with the a/c turned on for us. It made for perfect sleeping conditions. Whether you want to relax and read a book or take an adventure to Salt Pond, East End or over to the northern shore beaches, Blue Wrasse is a great location and a quick drive. I would highly recommend renting a car if staying on the Coral Bay side. We can't wait to return next year.

Great view of Coral Bay!

  • 4 of 5

My wife & I stayed at the Blue Wrasse February 24th thru March 3rd 2015.

The cottage is located on a steep hill overlooking Coral Bay.

The view of the bay is really what makes this place special.

This was our first trip to St John, so everything here was new to us.

I am a “details” person by nature & sent several E-mails to the Owner (John), about the cottage, rental cars & things to do on the island.

John replied quickly & with enough information to answer all of my questions.

The cottage is small, but plenty large enough for me & my wife.

We decided to sleep in the lower level bedroom, which is accessed by an exterior stair.

We tried opening the windows instead of using the air conditioner, but several of the mechanisms jammed & wouldn’t fully open or close.

We called the on-site manager in the morning & he came down immediately & closed the windows. He described how the salt laden air corrodes metal parts very quickly. He also noted that the Owner is planning on replacing the lower level windows this summer.

He also mentioned that he plans to replace the couch.

Having beach chairs, beach towels & a cooler was a HUGE plus for us.

We have traveled to many destinations on the Caribbean & Pacific coasts of several countries, but have never had simple amenities like these that made our stay that much more enjoyable.

We would definitely stay there again.

Wonderful little villa

  • 5 of 5

I don't even know where to start expressing my love for this place. Blue Wrasse is a wonderful little villa with a breathtaking view of Coral Bay and beyond. Getting your Jeep into the driveway is a little hairy (though the road to the house is really nice for this part of the island!), and getting down all those stairs can be a little scary, but once you reach the house it's so worth it. The screened front porch is a great place to relax with a drink, the screened bathroom is unlike anything ever, the compact living space has all you need--a full kitchen, comfortable couch, WiFi, and the bedroom downstairs is spacious with a large dresser and bed. Sunrises are awesome here! My only criticism goes to VRBO: we had some issues getting the instructions for check-in and check-out--the VRBO app is confusing and it's promotion is spam-like, so we didn't regard it very seriously until we learned it was supposed to have all of the information we needed on getting to Blue Wrasse, finding the house key, et cetera. VRBO needs to clean up this app and promote it more clearly, especially to first time travelers like us! Fortunately the on-island managers went above and beyond by calling us before we arrived and meeting us in Coral Bay to show us to the house and how to get in. We would have been lost without them! The owner was also very helpful in providing the instructions himself when he learned we didn't get them through VRBO. Blue Wrasse is the best for couples on a budget looking to explore the beaches and trails of St. John--my husband and I truly loved our stay here!

Private Little Cottage - Amazing Views - Great Price

  • 4 of 5

We just returned from a two-week stay at Blue Wrasse, and are already dreaming of our next visit. The new managers Tom and Jackie are fantastic. They made sure we felt welcome, and provided a wonderful arrival experience. They told us the best place to get our water containers refilled (the cottage uses unfiltered rain water- fine for bathing and washing some dishes, but not potable) and provided us a full container of fresh water to get us going. They left us plenty of beach and bath towels, which we really appreciated. The views from this cottage are fantastic; the sunrises dramatic. The cottage itself is small, but we had plenty of room for my husband and me, and our two college-age sons. The queen-sized bed "downstairs" was comfortable, and the loft bed and sleeper-sofa provided plenty of sleeping space for our boys. The bathroom is small, but completely serviceable, and I can't imagine that a better view from a bathroom exists anywhere else. The kitchen is fully equipped providing everything we needed to prepare meals. The grill is fantastic. The deck is small, but the screened in porch gave us plenty of room to hang out, and did protect us a bit from the mosquitoes. The cottage is completely surrounded by vegetation, and is located at the bottom of a pretty significant flight of stairs leading from the parking area, giving you a sense of total privacy and seclusion. When the wind was blowing the cottage was perfectly situated to catch the breeze. When the wind stopped blowing (which was unusual for January) it got a little difficult to dry things out (towels, swim suits etc) and the mosquitoes came out in force. There were some mosquito rings at the cottage (the kind you light and the smoke keeps the mosquitoes away) which helped, but I would definitely recommend having a can of repellant on hand. As advertised, there are A LOT of stairs between the parking area and the cottage. This wasn't a problem for us as we are pretty active, but would be difficult for anyone with mobility issues. Pro:Running up and down the stairs a few times a day was the equivalent of spending hours at the gym no other workout necessary! Con: the stairs can get VERY SLIPPERY when wet, especially with bare feet. While we were there it rained almost daily, and the first day I slipped on the bottom steps and bruised myself up pretty well. After that I took my time and stepped very carefully with no more slips - just take your time. We will definitely be returning next year!

Owner's Response: Thank you for the wonderful review! Happy to have you back any time! Thanks for the comments on the steps, we actually have already scheduled a painting of the steps and deck in June which will include more anti-slip grit in the paint.
