About Donna & Linn

We have been traveling to the Caribbean since 1979 when we were married about 5 years and finally had enough money saved for a honeymoon. In fact, St. Croix was our first vacation outside the continental US, and the first island upon which we stepped foot. We were awestruck at the clear waters, colorful fish and sun drenched white sand beaches. We are happy to say that some things don't change much.

The largest of the 3 US Virgin Islands, St. Croix combines the best of other two resulting in a 'destination' all its own. And, after traveling to many, many other islands since 1979 including owning property on St. John, USVI, we have chosen to return to the quiet serenity of St. Croix. A tropical island without the hype of multiple cruiseships docked each day and mega resorts, St. Croix is not over-run by tourism and the locals aren't burned out in the wake. Friendliness abounds and visitors are welcomed with a smile and sincere 'good morning'. We likewise welcome you to our home-away-from-home.

In our opinion, Christiansted town, a 20 minute oceanside drive from our home, is the nicest Caribbean city we have encountered. Authentic in its historical danish colonial architecture and beautifully situated on a gorgeous harbor where sailboat lanyards clang in the gentle breeze and fishing and snorkel boats await their next adventurers there is just enough of everything there...museums, restaurants, shops and boutiques and even a Friday night street festival and parade if you happen to be there at just the right time.

We love the laid-back attitude of Cane Bay, our proximity to a secluded beach just steps from our deck and pool, the sounds and sight of the Caribbean sea in our front yard. Cane Bay is like no other area on the island. It is the essence of tropical island living. No hussle...no bussle....no hassle. Lush mountains fall into the sea, small family run restaurants and dining places dot the coast, and friendly down-to-earth people, many of whom have lived their entire life on this wonderful island, await you. Drift to sleep to the sound of tree frogs croaking and awake to the roosters' crow. And if horses strolling down the road along the beach doesn't charm you, perhaps the dolphins and whales that can be spotted breaching the water just in front of the house will.

A real sense of history surrounds our home and this community starting with the historical landing place of Columbus on his second journey to the new world a couple of miles down the road....to the plantation ruins which dot the hillsides literally surrounding our home. If the hills could speak...the stories told would no doubt be chilling. This intrigues us and you will enjoy some of the books we keep at the house to remind us of the past - both good and bad.

Could not have been nicer!

This was the most relaxing vacation my husband and I have ever taken! The home is pristine with everything you could possibly want! Extremely clean and modern with very comfortable beds! The owners, Leon and Donna were wonderful to work with and provided us a wealth of information about the home and the island. Also, Kurt, who manages the property for the owner was very attentive and nice to work with! Great north location with a short distance to several great local restaurants. We especially enjoyed the trip to Buck Island that included snorkeling and then plenty of time on an amazing beach! We look forward to a return trip and wouldn't hesitate to stay at this property again!

The stay was absolutely amazing. First of all, owners are wonderful and so accomodating. So comfortable. Beds are amazing. Place is very clean. No issues with WiFi or TV. Well worth the price. Walk to Eat for a fabulous meal. Private Beach is wonderful in day and night. Lots to do on the island. You can just relax or run all day. Very easy island to get around. Never got lost. Will be back for sure!

Great Place - I would recommend to anybody

We stayed at Estate Cane Bay from 11/23-12/1/2012. The house is fantastic with great views, lots of room, 2 huge bedrooms with walk in closets and great bathrooms. The main living facility is updated and wonderful with a great pool and lanai. It sits on an acre, is very close to the ocean, and within one mile of four great eating places on the north shore of St. Croix. I recommend all 4 - Eat@Cane Bay, Rowdy Joes, The Cliffs, and Over the Wall. It is only a 20 minute drive to Christenstad, 20 minutes to the rain forest, and 25 minutes to Fredriksted. The island was great and we took advantage of snorkeling, diving, ocean kayaks, horseback riding, touring the rum distilleries (Cruzan is great), stand up paddleboard, the beaches on both the north shore and west shore, the pool, and so much more. Great for a couple or 2 couples. The owners were great to deal with and their on-island care-taker was excellent. Thanks for the wonderful memories.....we hope to return again!!

Pristine, peaceful, perfect.

Estate Cane Bay is everything we could ever want in a Caribbean getaway. The home is quiet & peaceful with the sound of waves all day & all night to melt away the stress. It's back off the little road enough that you are barely aware there is a road there. We were knocked out by the photos of the home but they don't do it justice; it's modern but homey & the outdoors seem to be an extension of the living area. Donna & Linn couldn't have been more helpful or accommodating. Their kitchen has plenty of everything you need for your stay, including access to plenty of their own spices. In addition to a nice drip coffee maker they even had a French Press for our inner coffee snob. The Bose sound system was fantastic & thus resulted in a minor iPod skirmish (she won). We didn't use the flat screen TV. It was honestly like staying at a friend's house who knows what you like. There is casual dining nearby (Rowdy Joe's; the fish tacos are strongly recommended, we went back for them a 2cd time; their ice cream is AMAZING. Eat at Cane Bay; anything on the menu! It was the best we had on the island; we doubled up here as well) & there are groceries fairly close for anything you might want for the house. It would have been nice to have access to the washer & dryer (primarily for the towels we used frequently with the pool & beach) but I know power is expensive on the island. Renting a vehicle is a must (full disclosure: road maintenance is not a priority on the island & maps are a general approximation; local directions are given by landmark, not by road numbers.) & if you get lost, it's an island! Embrace the exploration & you'll find your way back eventually. That said, the directions Donna & Linn provide to the the house from the airport are clear, easy, & accurate. The energy of the house & property, as well as Cane Bay itself was perfect for us. We will be going back for certain.

Island home away from home

This was my second trip to St Croix. On my first visit, I had enjoyed the Cane Bay area of the island, so I felt good about renting a house in this area. The owners were easy to work with and very informative about the house. The house and grounds were amazing! I could not imagine a better home base from which to explore St Croix. Nothing is too close, nothing is too far away! Privacy and security are not an issue. The pool and the amenities, too numerous to mention, made for a true home away from home.

Hidden Gem, thanks for opening your home to us

Donna and Linn are excellent to work with to arrange this property for my wife and I to stay. Britta and Joseph are care takers of the property and are very accessible if there are any issues.

This property is on the north shore in Cane Bay. It is on the north side of the island but the airport is on the south side. Please note, the directions Donna and Linn give to the home from the airport assume that you are renting a car from the airport itself. The local rental company ACE, where we rented our jeep was 30min from the airport. My wife and I were on our own with a map and some basic local directions, no problem and fun :) I would highly encourage anyone traveling there to rent a JEEP or SUV, not a car. St. Croix is an island to be explored and you can't do that in a taxi. The road conditions are ok but can be rough. Driving on the left is not hard but you have to pay attention.

The house sits back off the beach and is fenced and gated. The house is a beautiful two bedroom two bath modern home with a vaulted main room and gourmet kitchen. They keep copper cook wear and fire burning stove. There is a gas burning grill ready to go by the pool. I would take some inventory of left over condiments at the home before going grocery shopping. There is no air conditioning in the main room but is available in the bedrooms. No problem.

There is satellite TV and free wi fi. The wi fi is not secured so be careful when shopping online down there. They have a salt water pool that over looks a large yard. The beach is across the road and it excellent to sit and just watch the sunset. You can snorkel from there and SUP from the beach but I suggest you be an advanced swimmer and snorkeler at this location.

The house has satellite TV, and a BOSE sound system. The seating area next to the pool was great for sitting and drinking coffee in the morning. It is not well lit at night.

Dive at Cane Bay Dive shop (excellent location and inexpensive), snorkel Buck Island ( a must), rent stand up paddle boards in Fredericksted where the water is calm, watch the sunset from The Waves restaurant or Off the Wall Pizza (they give free sunset shots and have excellent pizza), enjoy Rowdy Joes.

Please note, you have to go through customs on your way out, so you need to be at the airport two hours before departure. Bring a passport just in case, the American custom agent asked me for mine.

We can't wait to go back.
