Jason Schmidt purchased this house in 2004
We bought this house several years ago for our own private use and have upgraded every aspect of the home. Our kids are getting older and our schedules have gotten busier, so we have decided to share our home away from home :)
We chose *this* home because of its location and easy access! It is close to Old Town Truckee which has great shopping and fantastic restaurants. This home is located 15 minutes from several downhill as well as cross country ski resorts such as Tahoe Donner, Sugar Bowl, Northstar, Alpine Meadows, and Squaw Valley USA.
This is a home, not just a house. It's furnished in a 4-5 star fashion and not just with cast off or dated furnishings often found in rental properties. When you stay with us you will enjoy a unique 'old Tahoe' experience.
We rented this home for Labor Day weekend and it was perfect for our family. We had 8 adults and 7 kids. There is a large bedroom full of twin bunk beds that was fun for all the kids. The kitchen, 2 dining areas and living room are open and worked great for our large group! The kitchen is fully stocked and had everything we needed to prepare our meals. They have a closet FULL of movies! The owners were very accommodating and nice, as we had a last minute plan change, they also helped search for a lost item. Great place, we would stay here again!
I just rented this cabin for early March, for 14 people. It was awesome! A few people were couples, and could share beds, but otherwise there was so much space. The living room has a great TV and fireplace. There are 2 separate dining tables. Open kitchen, so everyone is still involved when cooking with those in the living room. The pool room was awesome, and a great second main room to have in the cabin. It also has its own fireplace, and a VERY large pool table. I thought it would be small, but it was as big as the giant moose head on the wall. Two large balconies and and outdoor hot tub. There was plenty of parking, and lots of land to play in the snow as well. We went to Alpine, Squaw, and Northstar. All are 15-20 away. We were so pleased with the Alder Cabin we will go again, no doubt.
Eleven of us, all adults, ended up going to Tahoe for the weekend. We had a great time - enjoyed the hot tub, the billiard room, great selection of movies. Kitchen's well equipped and the room has an open plan so that everyone could enjoy each others company. House was clean and has lots of interesting conversation pieces to pique your interest.
Our only issue was the bed situation. The description of the bedrooms and beds was a little vague. Room configuration is 2 bedrooms, each with a queen, 1 very small bedroom kinda in a closet that does sleep 2 and 1 big room with a full futon and 6 bunk beds. So we were one couple shy a double bed. We rolled with it and that didn't affect our enjoyment of the house, but it would have been nice to be prepared. Yes, I should have asked for clarification, but didn't. The bedrooms are all downstairs, so if someone can't climb stairs, not a good house.
We chose this home for New Year's week as a surprise for my husband. We had three families (12 people total) and this place was fantastic! While the location is super convenient to all the things you want to do in the Tahoe - Truckee area, we only left to hit the grocery store. There are spaces for everyone to do their own thing, and space enough for everyone to be together! Don't be put off by the "caretaker on premises", you will never even notice. A great vacation, we will definitely come back, and recommend it to friends.
We stayed here for my fiancée's birthday with a few friends. This place is very spacious and comfortable. The owners are very pleasant and keep the cabin well stocked. They have more firewood than you can use, spices for the kitchen, and countless games and movies. The beds are comfortable and the cabin is well maintained and clean. We really enjoyed the hill on the property and pretty much went sledding for two days straight. The location is very convenient and close to ski resorts and downtown Truckee. It is the perfect snow getaway and the owners are very flexable going the extra mile to make sure you will enjoy your stay. Thanks guys!
Our stay at this cabin was perfect. The cabin was very comfortable with a large open floor plan on the top floor, a separate billiard room with couch and fireplace. So cozy. Big dining tables for families and friends. The hot tub was great, looking out at the pines. Great location, close to town and highway but far enough off that you feel you are still away in the mountains. The town of Truckee has everything you need too. Loved that towels and linens are provided, no need to wash or bring your own stuff. Kris was great to work with, exceeded our expectations. Lots of movies to watch and even had toys for the kids to play with. Your are close to neighbors, but the cabin is on a large 1 acre lot that is very private in the back. Would definitely rent again.
Sledding. Our back yard is 140' wide and 325' deep with a gentle slope and is perfect for sledding. Biking and Hiking trails are also within reach with a very short commute. Truckee Recreational Center is under a mile away and has courts and indoor rock climbing. Fine eateries and shopping are less than 2 miles away in Old Truckee. The Alder Cabin is in a very central location to all events, resorts and attractions that North Lake Tahoe has to offer.
